On the Yowie board, there's mention of that movie "Nightbeasts".

Well.. this has nothing to do with cryptozoology at all.. just plain old horror films. The reason I bring this up is I watched "Army Of Darkness" again for the first time in years. I forgot how good b-grade horror is. I especially forgot how good Bruce Campbell is. I'm going to go all fanboy here, but I have to admit my two favorite quotes from that film is "This.. is my BOOMSTICK" and "Yo, she-bitch .. lets go" *boots Deadite in the face & takes a shot with his shotgun*. How can you not like a guy with a chainsaw for a hand and a double-barrel Remington 12 Gauge shotgun? Its pure b-grade awesomeness.

I'll stop now, and ask you all this, whats your favorite horror movie, and why?

Well, funny you should mention Bruce Campbell and Army of Darkness, 'cos that's one of my fave comedy-horror films! However, there is absolutely NO CONTEST for best horror film in my mind, but some purists may call it SciFi, but I don't care - the suspense is unbelievable, even when you've watched it over and over again (yes, I have!), so my list is as follows: SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

Alien - suspense and horror just doesn't get any better than this. You cannot see ANY of the events happening, they really surprise the first time.
Aliens - "get away from her, you BITCH!" Just because Hicks and Ripley really seem to understand each other's talents, but it never gets gooshy or anything. Sucks that Hicks bought the farm at the end though.
The Thing - The John Carpenter version starring Kurt Russell. Shapeshifter paranoia!!!!
The Bone Collector - gruesome! Killer ending, too.
Evil Dead - Nastiest trees ever, and the ending was left wide open for a sequel!
Army of Darkness of course being that sequel!

And I have to give credit for the laughfest that was "Zombieland" starring Woody Harrelson. but if you really want something different, try "Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead"

I just saw Predators, the new one that just came out. I have to say, its better by far than those "aliens vs predator" films. It goes right back to its roots (the first one with Arnie in it). No real suspense as such for the first half hour, then BAM - gunfights, explosions, predators, gore, more gunfights & a crazy black man (no spoilers there as such). Can't ask for anything else.

Alien & Aliens are another two of my favorites. I have the Aliens Directors Cut. It has an extra 17 minutes of footage, kinda ties up some loose ends. Another good one is My Name Is Bruce. Its.. well, i'd call it a mocumentary & a b-grade horror film in one. Bruce Campbell plays himself as well, himself, gets suckered into.. well, go find & watch it, you'll see. Laughs galore.. and gore galore too.

But the one that takes the cake for me, nothing has beaten this so far. Dog Soldiers. Basic premise: group of soldiers vs werewolves. Can you say "oh my god thats awesome"? I hope you can, cause I certainly did.

Dogsoldiers was pretty good. I think sometimes a limited budget works in your favour, you just stick to a set of events without getting bogged down in CGI etc.

Another wolfy movie I liked was "Blood and Chocolate". I think it's Romanian? Worth a watch. Fairly slick but kind of restrained too, not too over the top. As far as a movie about gorgeous european 20somethings morphing into wolves could be, anyway.

Alien series is great too, nice of em to leave an opening for a sequel in number 4, though last I heard Weaver backed out of ever doing another one. I liked the Alien series mainly because it was one of the first movies to believably, by its own little narrative, portray and intelligent and fantastic animal hunting people down. Jaws would be in the same boat (sorry) but sharks are MEANT to swim about eating things, it's not a great surprise haha.

The Hunger, classic vampire flick. Well, sort of a vampire flick.

Wolf Creek, was mainly enormous fun to watch with a british backpacker crapping themselves next to me.

Dawn of the Dead (both versions) are worth a watch too.Classic zombie and boomstick action the Hellraiser serieswas great on a lot of levels, though got a bit overblown towards the later releases.

Better add "shawn of the dead" to that too - ".... and dogs CAN look up"

Not exactly horror, but pretty disturbing at times, is a german flick called "the puppet gravedigger". Pretty clever.

First "Saw" was kind of decent, went off into cartoonland a few times but is great on a first watch. Downhill after that.
