The son-in-law / copper popped in the other day with the grand kids,,showed me a torch he just brought for the job called Led Lenser, not real big but blindingly bright, comes in different sizes...has anyone used one in the scrub yet...opinions anyone?

very good torches, i have a p14. use it from everything from shooting to my work (drive freight trains through the night). very pleased with it, i think its about 200lumens but the focus on the front is very good. my brother uses a 700lumen wolf eyes which is brighter but the led lenser actually seems to throw the light further because of its focus. id highly recommend one to anyone looking at a high powered torch.

I also have the P14 Led Lenser it’s a much brighter torch than my old Maglite, and throws a decent light beam, pretty bright.

The good thing about Led Lenser torches is they take ordinary 4 x AA Batteries unlike other high powered torches that have special CR123A Batteries which are expensive.

just a question on your led torch, do you find it very directional over a long distance or is it a wide beam? i have found so far that led fades out very quickly over distance compared to... say my ever trusty recharge dolphin with a krypton bulb.
have you found any decent rechargable led spot lights? cheers

Yeah the beam is variable in so much as with most torches has a wide angle and a directional beam that’s adjustable.

I have no problems with it, in fact I’m super happy with it

Well it arrived Trustfire SST-50 Torch.
Better than expected as far as Operational ability.
A 3 stage beam that goes from the Equivalent of high power driving lights to a local area look around type beam. down to a check the kids are asleep type beam. Hope that is a good description. It also has a high power Strobe setting that would stop any form of assault Human or Yowie ( if they did ) and they could not advance toward the source of light. And lastly an Auto S.O.S. high power setting, if you did break a leg. LOL.
Accessories Ziltch, Operating Manual Zilch. Packaging Fantastic.
Extra's Batteries 2 off. Charger 240 volt / 12 volt car.
Charger will also charge 123A Lithium rechargeable batteries which you can by cheaper than non rechargeable same batteries. ( just ordered some ) for earlier torch that would cost me up to $25 and last about 3 weeks at 1 Hr a night.

Thats a nice looking bit of kit, I'm very tempted but I need a new multitool first.

I didn't realise you wanted an indoor type thing, that slips into your top pocket. Nice.
The one I got isn't quite large enough to put base down and use as a seat, but the Lense end would make a good weapon. My brindle coloured dog I can pick her out at about 300 m in pitch black in thick scrub, and objects at that distance still retain colour, not returned to black and white. Wish I had this years ago, I would've known what those things were that frightened the c**p out of me. Also could be worse if I had seen them.
The Trustfire sst-50 that I got slips into my back pocket or a neck lanyard, I see lessor torches are up over the 400 to 500 + dollar mark so I'm more than happy.

After i briught the P7, ive seen other even bigger, brighter and better , like the P14....but i figure i'll make do with what i got...point being this new globe technology is bloody great, they illuminate like a damm hand held spotlight

I've also just recently picked up a p7, loving it!

It fits perfectly on my webbing, and it's more than bright enough for my needs.

As this is my first led light, I had a couple of beers and did the standard "how bright is this really" test, and near blinded myself! It took another stubby to restore my sight, thank god I keep plenty of medicine on hand.

Yeah done that test myself with my P14 I think its one of those "Man tests" sounds like a good idea at the time then goes terribly wrong.

Anyways I like the idea of your other "Man test" or should that be "Man wisdom" drink some "Man medicine"

Hi that "how bright is this really" Test doesn't sound to bright.

Not game to try that one. But had success with the shine it in your right ear Test.
Wow. Powerful beam the room still lit up on my left side. My wife checked after the test, to see if I had damaged anything. Great report she couldn't see anything, HMMM.
Bet yours isn't that strong.

I can see one of those trustfires in my future, maybe a couple of pays down the track, I need a good water filter first (any suggestions, needs to be very small, able to filter about 10 l per day)

Not quite sure what your needs are but here are some good products. Sea panel you can make yourself, if your handy. The best and smallest is a water filter bottle and the steripen. which you can get from Western Australia.
Hope these help, if not let give me more input and will look at more options.

My needs are for me and 2 German Shepherds, walking up to about 10 k per day for a few days at a time. I carry 3x2l canteens and a 3l camelback, so refilling them daily would be nice. I filter the water to keep the big lumps out, but I'm sick of taste and smell of "puritabs" + it upsets the dogs stomachs. I was looking at one of these http://www.paddypallin.com.au/default.a ... &Group=391 but getting one in Aus at an affordable price is impossible, and I'm yet to find a US stockist that will ship to Aus. The steripen looks like it will fit my needs, so thats in the wish list now.

i stumbled on this torch, not sure if its legit or not, at 4100 lumens it sounds pretty dangerous for blinding or burning people.

Wow that's a torch!!! A bit extreme unless your thinking of doing opening nights for Theatres or Hollywood to light up the night like Batman or something.
Don't believe it can have much of a battery life at that output.
My Torch is still great and still the same price as far as I know. Have recognised that as soon as batteries are down and light goes out due to voltage drop, either switch to a lower output or change Batteries. Other than that it is still number one with me.

All the boy talk about torches is good but its confusing for me, so could someone please post up in simple terms where a lady can get a very bright torch from? What website & the name of the torch?

any of the website links above would be ok. I was also confused by all the jargon.. LED technology is new to me. The thing about LED compared to old torches is Battery life. I get over 50hrs out of battery life from 3 little AAA"s in my headtorch. It retails for $12.. (Alpkit gamma). Its bright enough too.. it went through the washing machine with no effect. Believe it or not there is a forum for torch junkies.. a great place to find all the info you may need http://www.candlepowerforums.com/

Might be time to trade in the maglight for a trustfire. Sounds like a ripper for the money!

How are the torches going guys, are you both happy with the performance? I had a battery leak in my torch and it is not too well, might have to look at replacing it!

Only trouble I have had with the Trustfire is batteries going flat and not much warning. Goes on OK but a second later it goes out, it does not dim as a warning.
So if your in the field keep a backup set with you, or change them to a recharged set before heading out. Car charger adapter is handy.
Other than that I just keep petroleum grease on all threads to enable easy disassembly.

If you contact your supplier I am sure you would not have a problem, as long as you have not neglected it. Fair wear and tear would be looked at favourably.
P.S. if you point out the recommendations on this site you may be really looked after.
