Out and about in Perth

Unread post by alch »

Howdy

Well we went up to Walyunga National Park which is 40 km north-east of Perth to take a look around to see if there were any evidence of Yowies. We have heard of two sightings of Yowies up around this region in the past so thought it might be a good idea to have a look.

We didn't find a great deal, however there were some snapped trees, quite a few branches draped over trees and a debarked tree which looked interesting;

What do you think? a bit odd, out in the middle of no where with no tracks nearby.

We'll be heading back out soon for some further field work.

Hi Alch ,
Interesting photo's . While cutting and collecting fire wood we often came across spider's and other insect's just under the bark . Maybe that's what something was looking for . A quick snack ?

Thank's for sharing Rusty2...........

Yeah, there was plenty of spiders and spider eggs under the back further up we had noticed.

Thanks Tony, we also found some interesting pyramid rock piles. No sign of camp sites nearby either. Any comments on this ?

Hi Alch
I don't think you have much at all, the debarked tree looks pretty normal. It is dead and the spiders etc living under the bark confirm it. Even the bark on the ground looks like it fell their, not flung aside or trodden on while it feasted. If I was 3 metres tall the only spider I would worry about would be on my body with striking fangs.
The Rock piles may have been their for years, the photo's don't show much in the way of time, i,e no plants broken beneath the stack or growing up through it in first photo.
The second photo of clean Granite looks freshly piled. Possible growth freshly bent from recent activity as in it has just been built. Plus it looks like a pile built by a someone collecting or kids, I believe our friend is a bit tidier than this.
It looks like a nice place though, enjoy it and enjoy this site.
Don't be put off by me, just be more critical of what you are looking at. (detective)

Can I just add the bark was taken off 6 ft the whole way around the tree and placed onto one side of the ground which you can view in the photo.

Also, The second pile of rocks you see had a rock stack about 10 meters from the place you see in the photo, in the middle of a remote forest.

Alch and I think it was worth noting.

Thanks for the update. Now that is a lot better, new photo shows a lot more than the others, good one. And by adding the bark location explains a bit more to. (claps hands)
Good research and still a nice spot, any footprints or other signs ?

It only slightly rained about 3 times this winter and nothing so far during the spring. Summer is just about upon us and the ground is rock hard no matter what surface you are standing on.

Footprints will have to be ruled out I'm afraid haha

We are planning to follow the streams and creek beds which is the only place with any mud that could hold a print, but even they have all but dried up this year.

The good thing to come of this is we are able now to penetrate further into the wilderness than anyone before so fingers crossed we find ourselves walking into a yowie den and not a tiger snake pit.
