OZ BIG CATS native or introduced

Many years ago my Grand Mother now passed on told of when she was very young there used to be large cats that could pull down sheep and that when I was poking around in the bush I should never go alone , she was born in 1919 and grew up in the Biniguy , Gravesend area .

When I asked as to the origins of these cats , weather they were introduced or native she always said that they were already here when the Whites first came ! .

Does anyone on this part of the forum have more information on this . I realise that there have been tales of Military Mascots , Circus escapes ect it does seem to be an overly avoided subject both by media and the general public . it would be good to know if these creatures are inhabiting the areas in which I conduct Yowie research because I think that the Yowies would be the least of my problems ! .

IF YOU DO NOT LOOK YOU WILL NOT SEE !!!! !!!! (detective)

Hey Al !
I was told that my grandfather was in a posse to shoot an escaped lion , so it does happen . And there must be private zoo's that accidentaly lose some animals . But I just got off the phone with a koori friend , in his 50's , he said he wasnt aware of any dreamtime stories or myths in aboriginal folklore that he knew about concerning large cats .

Maybe Didgmaster or Bowhunter has some info .

I did see in a doco some years back. That thay did DNA test on ferels cat at the top end.Thay said some thing like the Indonesian fisherman brung the cat over to Australia 2000 years ago.If this is right, that make the Indonesian cat not a ferel like the dingo..
