The Gympie coin

Hrm.. been doing some research, and the writing on the back is definatly Greek. On the front of the coin.. it could be Medusa? Oh, and coins like that were found around the middle ages & in greece.

You said your mother was doing her Ph.D. in ancient history ? Is it possible for either her or a colleague to decipher the writing ?

The Gympie Coin

The coin found at Gympie has been officially identified as a 14th Century Silver Denga from Pskov in Mongolian Russia. The coin was traded with the Chinese between 1300-1500. It is believed it may have been brought to the Gympie region from shipwrecked Chinese mariners around the early 1400's while gathering merchandise, gold and antimony from the Gympie region. It may also be connected to the famous Gympie Pyramid mystery. We have a very detailed report of what and how it may have come to Australia.
