Has anyone on this board had an encounter with a yowie, where they clearly saw it and had a good look (rather than glimpses, seeing thrashing bushes, hearing noises etc)?
If so please share your experiences.

I'd say about 40% of the people on this board have had a close encounter. your best bet is to ask Dean. Whether he'll tell you is another story.

40% sounds about right, although far fewer can be absolutely certain of what was seen or heard. I dare say you could uncover some very interesting stories if you dig deep enough.

And what's your story, Beastman? Have you ever seen anything you can't explain? What was it that caught your curiousity on the subject?

I just think the possibility that these things exist is so tantalising and exciting, that it should be explored. The implications are so huge.

I've never had any kind of yowie experience, but I may have seen a ghost; I lived in a house that appeared to be haunted. That experience opened my mind to all sorts of possibilities. Note that I say MAY, because I'm always conscious that there are "rational" alternative explanations for most things. Sometimes you can't believe what you *think* you see and hear... but everyone who lived in that house with me had some kind of weird experience, and we never discussed it until we'd all moved out so we weren't planting ideas in one another's heads.

I think there's a natural human habit of jumping to conclusions about what we THINK we see and hear, which is why I think it's important to be (at least slightly) skeptical before screaming "yowie!" or "ghost!". Hence my question about clear and unambiguous sightings of the yowie....

While I have not seen anything crystal clear, twice now (one at night and during the day) I have seen "things" that I can only describe as a yowie .

Please tell!

Long stories short.


Night time sighting.

Another person and I had moved to this particular position, after hearing strange noises and large movent in this place earlier that night and from pervious nights checking around.

After listening to these same sounds, we heard what sounded like something very large come charging down a slope through the bush and stop just shy of a small cliff face. We then proceded to turn on a large spotlight and was greeted by a "something" with these two large eyes looking at us, at a height estimate of 7/8 feet (later on we went to the same position and determined approx. height) with two clearly forward facing eyes.

The eye shine looked slightly larger than golf balls and was a yellowy red colour. Whatever it was was behind a few scattered "whispery" like shrubs bare of leaves and the view was un obsqued. After a few seconds it started moving to its left, after a few meters went behind a larger tree and glanced around the other side of this tree, now totally in open space and cocked its head to one side looking straight at us, blinked 3 times and turned around and disappeared back up the slope.


Day time.

I was walking a trail alone looking down at my GSP plotting my position and as i've looked up I caught "something" 2/3 of the way across the trail before it disappeared into the bush in front of me. I can describe it as 6 foot plus, hairy/fury that was brown in colour that had an almost grey sheen to it and moved fluently from what I saw.

I did not get what I would call a "good look" I looked up, seen it and it was gone. That quick.



Both these cases had other evidence, such as a footprint ect. and a lot of unexplainable events before and after the sighting and same day, aswell as days before and following. But thats not really what your asking.

Hithere, i'm new in here and have never had an encounter yet, BUT i used to work in a container park penty of interstate drivers there, and plenty of stories too!
One driver told me he stopped for a kip while crossing the nullabour and got woken up by something shaking his cab.
I asked if he saw anything, which he didnt, he just jumped outta his sleeper gunned it and took off screaming!!!
Not the most detailed encounter but i wished it happened to me, i'm sure i couldve sneaked a look at it before the jump to hyperspace.

"other evidence"

Nothing spells it out like a clear footprint

The other "sighting" we found a termite ridden thick branch, that had made its way somehow down this enbankment, that had a huge left handprint pressed into it. We put our hand in exactly the same spot and you could clearly see 4 finger marks and one thumb inprinted into it. Also with what looked like finernail marks and what looked exactly like the ball of your palm under your thumb pushed in. All anatomically the same as a human just physically 1/3 bigger than a human hand.

This appeared in a 15 min window of activity and im 1000% sure no humans where around. Within 40/50 meters of whatever we saw that night. A later search found that we could not locate the source of the the branch within a good 75 meter radius, with two people looking for 20/30 mins.

"unexplained events"

Getting followed by "something", going the same pace as you. You stop it stops, you change direction it changes and continues following you.You double back and it starts following you in the other direction.

Things sounding like tanks tearing through the bush, stopping and then hearing a large tree tension up and then snap like a gunshot.

Strange noises, that after spending every night in the area for 3 months straight we only heard when we had some "activity".

Getting played with, (To long to really explain) with something making noise at spot X seemingly to get attention, you make your way their then it will start up at spot Y. You race to spot Y and its back at X.

A little while after my daytime sighting, I experienced 2 "somethings" wood knocking at each other while I was in the middle. One would knock and the other would answer and this went back and forth 7 times.



Just a few notable events surrounding what i've seen. Where they related to what I saw, I don't know. Just found them highly interesting.


As I tell anyone, its all about the amount of time you spend out in the bush. You learn what is normal for that area and what is not. Also the more hours you clock up the more likely you will come across something unusual.

Hi mikka! That was the only yowie story I've heard so far, plenty of lights in the sky stories, a ghost driver story, lots of insomnia drug induced misadventures and a few encounters of the female kind.
I'll always ask the drivers for their tales I figure they've seen the most of the country.
Still waiting for a real good 'big fella' encounter.
Sounds like you've had some personal experiences though?....
