Don't you just love the sounds of the Aussie bush.
Have you ever heard a possum scream, good example here

Scared me as a kid I can tell you.

Cheers

(As if stung by a spasm) plunge into the chasm.
While they waited and listened in awe . . .

Yep indeed does sound very similar to the ooooeeee guy. How far away do you estimate he was away from you Rusty? He has a noticeable echo to him. Maybe myself and Ash did only record 3 dogs. If the oooooeeeee guy is a dingo that solves that mystery and just leaves the mystery of the original caller lol

Not sure how far away this caller is , I'd be guessing . Its in a valley hence the echo . It doesn't sound like a dog but I've been wrong before .

A friend suggested that dingo's are pack howlers , makes sense .

It is near a farm and I know there's activity in this area so it could be either .

Dingo's howl to find the position of other members of there pack plus also to tell the size and or direction of neighboring packs.

It is there main form of communication and is designed to be heard over long distance.

They tend to howl more around mating season which is from April through to June.

The behavior displayed in this plus other recordings is typical wild dog behavior.

Our recording was in April so that fits into the timeline you mentioned Bushfreak. One thing though that I am wondering is why the oooooeeee guy took 20 minutes to respond to the first 2 callers? Wouldn't he respond sooner if he was a dog? Also I would be very interested to know what you thought of the audio of the original caller that Matt posted up for us recently. Yeah it would be good to find out for sure if they are dogs as this would solve the mystery that's for sure lol.

He may have already been calling but just not in that manner. Then switched to that type of howl. Unfortunately we will never know.
