HAWKS BAY NZ

Hi All
Its been a while since I have posted, been flat out working on heaps of good stuff. I have also developed a passing interest in the NZ version of BF or at least the reported sighting of which has been non existent for 30-40 years that i can find the last sighting I read was in Waikato in the 70's. Frustrating to say the least, I mean i really cant find much of anything other than some NZ Maori Literature. That was until this week.
I run a football club as well and I was approached by one of my many kiwi players this week who wanted to share the following story. He (the player) and his brother worked the family farm in Hawks Bay for many years during their 20's. He told me that on or new their property there was a very large and wild forest and a very large lake, similar in size to lake Baroon near Maleny in QLD. He told me that over a 6 month period on the property, he and his brother would have to go and shoot a very large number of feral goats, over a the period they shot 600 goats but strangely, they would return a few days later to get the bodies for burning so as not to attract other ferals such as pigs or dogs which he assured me was in very small numbers in the area.
On their return they would find many of the bodies gone and no remains, he found many drag marks to tree and just stop, to the edge of the lake and just stop, these bodies which he said that over the months could be up to 100 where never retrieved, no remains at all. He said he and his brother often walked through the forest hunting and heard what sounded like 'yells' or 'screams' that did not sound human echoing out through the forest canopy day and night. I played him the audio of the howl we got last year and he said it was very close. He said that on numerous times he felt as they where being showed by someone or thing (remembering this is private property but it wouldn't stop other hunters) and other types of weird of unearthly sounds such as high pitched squeals and huffs and puffs.
These encounters with whatever it was certainly had certainly shaken him and has peaked his interest in the Crypto world at the same time. The emotion and anxiety in his voice and face is evident in recalling what I beleive to be factual events. Does anyone at all have any updated information from NZ about possible hairymen there or know of any other resources as it has been very hard to find anything?
Does anyone know enough about NZ wildlife in that region to provide alternatives, other predators?
Interesting story but it is puzzling
