Disturbing statistics

A website dealing with military and civilian aircraft has a list of countries with general current statistics and future statistics .

The disturbing part is that according to this website , Australia will lose around 50% of it's population in the next 10 years , there are similar figures for the U.S. as well .
The planet will also have .2 billion less inhabitants over the next 10 years than it does now .
I can guess like anyone else but can someone please tell me why this would be the case ?
Or maybe the question is what do they know that I dont ?

Most First World countries have had slow to negative population growth for a few years now. This is the end product of slow growth, the oldies die off and there aren't any youngies to replace them. It becomes more obvious when large groupings ( post WWII baby boomers) begin to thin quickly.

There is a whole robust field of study devoted to population dynamics (and the associated political / financial implications associated with this field). From what I gather, the forecast is First World countries becoming depopulated, Second and Third World countries continue to have rapidly expanding populations. I'll leave it to others smarter than I to figure out what happens next.

If you look carefully, the Federal Gov't has moved back the retirement ages in the last few years. This isn't only because of the financial impact, but also the loss in the skilled workplace population. No one is there to replace the folks dropping from the workforce.

Lots of fodder for futurists and conspiracy theory people!!

I thought the retirement age was raised so that the government doesn't have to pay as much money out for pensions and we keep paying more tax.
