Saw this coming ever since Gasland (documentary by Josh Fox) was released in 2010. There is now a Gasland Part 2 I believe that examines links between fracking and localised earthquake activity.
The Australian Government is doing exactly what the US government did in allowing these companies to use methods of dubious safety with known toxic chemical cocktails with a carte blanche approach that bypasses the normal Environmental Safety checks that every other company has to abide by. It a breach of public trust, morally reprehensible and most likely illegal.
What is worse is that we had warning and yet here we are.
The problem with public opinion and public pressure (especially in Australia) is that unless it affects a large majority of people, it is left to the vocal minority who are directly affected by an issue to carry the torch.
