Newbie On The Gold Coast

Hi All, I live on the Gold Coast and I am a keen mountain bike rider in the nerang state Forrest, after many years of riding in the Forrest, mornings, middle of the day and late afternoon both by myself and with mates I'd never thought about yowies in there, but have on many occasions had the same feeling that so many in here talk about. With hearing rocks thrown, branch snapping noises, stomping etc the list goes on. It has only been recently that an old mate of mine who lives in beechmont asked me about any funny things in the Forrest as he is into Yowies after sitings himself and many strange happenings on his property. Now after listening to him and being on here reading all the encounters - noises, feeling like being watched and stalked etc. I honestly believe that the big hairy men are in there, I have no doubt about it. I have also seen a few trees over time that have been chomped at, looking for grubs as I've now found out. What surprises me is this, whenever a tree appears to have been chomped at someone comes along and gets rid of the tree! My question is this, has anybody ever seen a tree been removed after this has happened to it? Keep in mind these tracks in nerang Forrest have hundreds of people every week using them for riders, joggers / runners / hikers, which also surprises me that nobody has ever mentioned any strange happenings and there is nothing from what I've found on this forum about Nerang Forrest either. From now on I will keep a phone on me for the next time I notice a tree been chomped at, then at later time removed, and when they are removed the stump is gone and all, just wood shavings on the ground to show that there was once a tree there. Another thing to note is that in recent times (2years) there has been what is called trail vandalism, rocks placed on tracks, branches - logs on tracks, and bridges pulled up, and or destroyed. These bridges some of which have been there for years showing no sign of decay or movement of any kind would take more than one bloke to pull them up and move them. One case a bridge had been ripped out and was found several metres away. Another bridge that was moved was an old log that was solid as, talk was that on one Occassion four blokes tried to move the log back into place and couldn't move it at all. So could it be a yowie trying to deter visitors in these areas.........cheers fellow Yowie believers

Gday Camelman, welcome to the forum.
I know that park a little and while it has very high human traffic it also has plenty of places to hide and sleep away the daylight hours.
Was the damage to the bike tracks recent? Or has it been going on for a while?

BTW, please use paragraphs to make your posts easier to read (cries)

Hi Camelman. Thats odd how the damaged trees keep dissapearing. Surely the yowie would be in Nerang?! I think theres reports from Beechmont somewhere.

Park staff cleaning up or "hiding the evidence"?

There you go. Doesnt hurt to ask!
I reckon theyre in cabbarita. I heard these local kids laughing and howling at something out there one night and i was sure they were getting a response. There was so much wind howling through the place,it was hard to tell.

The branches, logs and rocks etc. over tracks have been going for at least two years, and continue to happen to this day.

I spoke with a fellow rider a few days ago and he said that he had come across a log accross a track the day beforehand that was without a doubt placed there on a track around 9 - 10kms into the Forrest. I didn't think much of it until he said it was a so heavy and large that he was unable to move it. I didn't mention anything about Yowies but found his comment interesting as I know whereabouts he was talking about and how thick the Forrest is in that area, so the Question remains could it be..........

As for the trees being removed, at first my initial thoughts were being removed for safety reasons, the rangers are quite often removing fallen trees branches after controlled back-burning, but now I've become yowie aware I believe it would be for both evidence removal as well as safety.

Cheers

camelman,

Not sure if its apart on the Nerang state forest or not, but the area opposite the Hidden Woods estate just before you turn off to Beechmont, did have alot of activity around 5-6 years ago, i know that there was a young one hanging around in there, ( im guessing Young one , only around 5 half 6 foot tall ) and he / she would visit the houses at the very end of Bottle tree lane , and raid the chicken pens , there was a lady that lived there had it scream in her face and run down the hill into the bush. She sold her house a few months later because she was too scared to live there any more.

twice i had large branches placed across the track that wernt there when i walked in ... but all activity suddenly stopped after around 12 months or so, so i stopped going in there and havnt been back for a few years , who knows it might be worth a look ....

Cheers Didge....

Just a couple of pics of branch structures I seen a couple of days ago on a mountain bike ride in the Nerang Forrest. Had a good look above to see if any of these were broken off and had fallen into these positions and definitely could not see any trees that these branches could have fallen from. I do see these kind of structures quite often but will now start to photograph them. Also not far from here came across sticks jammed in the ground as well. One of the photos also shows bark hung from the trees as well.

First pic seems to be some kind of marker, could be to signal the direction another is traveling for mating reasons or an area of plentiful resources.

Im still new to at yowie-ing and have decided to expand my own level of consciousness before I do my own field research and venture out hoping to come across these sentinel beings. When I eventually do meet one i plan to offer a gift. First physically with sweet fruits and then mentally by projecting my auora and showing that i have good intentions.

Good luck with your research and always remember to be careful out there.
