Hi all

I am new to the yowie hunting world, I would like to ask has anyone had much experience in this region as my last two trips there I have heard wood knocks and screams on different occasions. Wanting to know if this area is worth spending more time searching and also does anyone know about the cottages halfway down the road called High Valley they seem very strange I have never seen life there day or night and it is sign posted everywhere to stay out seems very strange? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Cheers
Dazza

I had a quick look in that area on Sunday and it looks worthy of an overnight trip. I want to go further down the left fork from the hospital as that leads right down into the valley from what I can see on my maps. Happy to send you my details if you want to chat Dazza. I am only 4o mins from there.

Hi simonious

I have been right to the end of the road a few times now it's a dead end there, at the end is a walking track to a lookout which has some beautiful views on lake burragorang, my recent trips to that very location I heard a wood knock loud and clear late in afternoon just before dusk I was the only car there. But there are a lot of fire trails leading of everywhere of that road , which I would like to explore a bit more.

I've listened to a lot of them, but the count is now reached 99 so there are gaps in my listening experience. Hadn't heard this one before and it's outright scary. He must have run out of spare underpants by the end of it, though the (uniquely?) Australian expression "sh** myself" should not always be taken literally. Might have to have a drive around there (in daylight!) as I've now installed a dash cam in my vehicle.

Nice drive through the day down there might be a bit too much car traffic for a daylight sighting though but you. Ever know when they could appear

I am looking for anyone who wants to check out that area at night. About 500 meters up the right fork at the old hospital there is a small cleared area. I think some calls or wood knock there around dusk may just bring some out for a look. Be keen to do this in about a month.

I would be in if I was anywhere near there. But I suggest not calling as it would be obvious to any listening Yowie it si human. Stick to wood-knocks and possibly whistles (though I have also heard whistles piss them off because whistles are used primarily for hunting).

I certainly agree with you on the whistling. I have been taught that they very much consider it a challenge and using it because when they investigate whistling they are not curious but defensive and that is no good. I really want to try the calls as have learnt them off a guy in the US and in the interests of science I would like to see if they produce anything. If they don't then to bad for me. Wolf whereabouts are you from because I do travel and can join you in your area if I am ever nearby.

There are a tow notabler left hand turn off from Kings Tableland road - One of the Ingar Picnic Area and the other further down to the Andersons Firetrail. Both trails meet up at a Bedford Creek which then leads to abotu a 4 kms climb back up to Woodford Station. I haven't ventured up the other smaller trails.

Andersons Fire Trail is bounded by a gate and sings stating 'you are under surveillance'

Sorry about the big link, but this is pretty cool. A virtual tour of Andersons. You can turn around a stroll down Kings Tableland road too.

The surveillance camera notice is the yellow sign on the right hand side of the gate. I've never seen a camera but I'm sure they must be clevery disguised as drop bears or cockatoo's.

Hi all

I am keen to tag along if anyone wants to go check the area out. There are many fire trails down the road to the end all locked gates but easy to walk around.

As I posted some months ago - even a day trip down that road is quite interesting. There have been daylight sightings in the mountains also which leads me to believe that it could a 50/50 chance. As I stated - I saw nothing except the stick structure which could be been anything but the landscape and sounds are beautiful down there.....

Hi,

I hope you enjoy my recount, i made this account on yowiehunters just to share this with you. I found your post after googling for yowie sightings in wentworth falls, i was looking for it on google because somehow youtube recommended a story of a guy recounting his encounter in 2014 in wentworth falls and because of my own experiences as a child in this exact location. It made me wonder, how many more people are out there that have witnessed the same?

Along kings tableland road is queen victoria hospital which closed down around 1990. Across from the hospital are cottages, 2 of them.

In the 80s, around 1985 my family use to live in the cottage closest to the bush, it had a carport on the side/front, near the front door. I was around 7 years old. My grandfather worked at the hospital and the accommodation was a perk from the job. We lived there with grandparents, myself, my mother and my sister. I would say the "keep out" signs are there because the place is condemned now. Which i find sad to see my old childhood home vandalized. Queen victoria was a geriatric hospital. It treated old people. it was not a mental hospital as some people claim. My grandfather drove an ambulance.

During that time we there was an unusual encounter. It was late one night, after dark. Probably 8-9pm, i was a young child, that was late for me. My mother had just returned from uni. She had taken my radio/cassette recorder to uni to record a lecture. Being a child, i complained that i wanted it back. She went to the car to get it and it wasn't long before she came rushing back inside, somewhat hysterical. I don't know what was said between my mother and her parents. I was in my room, I don't remember the words, but i do remember the commotion. It wasn't long before i could see flashing blue and red lights outside, my window didn't face the front so i couldn't see the police car, but i knew they were there. Didn't sleep much that night. My mother tried to settle us, told us not to worry. I never personally saw or heard the creature.

I found out the next day what was going on. My mother told us. So you would call this hearsay. Memories of what someone told me many years ago. My mother is an honest person, she would not have lied about this. I am now recounting what my mother and grandparents told us about what happened: She said as she went to the car, she either opened the car door, or was about to open the door, when she heard heavy footsteps, very heavy food steps behind her. I think she said she could hear breathing, it was close, very close. She turned and saw a tall dark figure which she estimated at 7 foot high (my mother is around 5.5 feet for reference). It was not human. She instantly ran to the front door of the cottage and slammed it behind her, locked it and called her parents. They didn't hesitate to call the police. The police arrive very fast and with guns and flashlights out they quickly searched around the house. We were mostly surrounded by bush, except on 1 side which had the other cottage. The bush wasn't right up against the house, there was a bit of a clearing. My mother said the police heard snapping trees close by. They went to have a closer look and they saw large trees which had been snapped like twigs. I don't know how large. They did not pursue the creature into the bush. I was told that the police said no human was strong enough to rush through the bush pushing the trees out of the way like that. They told my family to stay inside and ensure everything was locked up and to call them again if we need them.

For weeks after that I was somewhat afraid and on guard when outside. I never did find the trees that were broken down, i looked. I never asked my mother where they were though. I do remember on more than one occasion a really foul smell on the edge of the bush. My grandmother told us to beware, often the yowies will smell like sewage. It was coming from the north direction into the bush, if you draw a line from the hospitals, past the cottages, and straight into that bush was the smell.

And that's all i remember. Stay safe if you visit the area. I would love to hear the recount of the police who we called on that night, if they are still alive. Unfortunately I don't know their names or even the date it happened.

Peter

Dan. I think that is a great idea. 💡. I think someone should do yowie tours. educational and interesting. people do ghost tours and things like that - and there is no guarantee that you will even see a ghost on these tours. so why not yowie tours??? I would definitely go on a yowie tour if there was such a thing. (happy)

Thank you for this amazing story, Peter!

Kings Tableland is a fabulous place to visit, but is definitely a little 'different'. I recall that even visiting as a young child, I had a sense of something slightly threatening about the area. Seems just about everyone who goes there (without knowing anything at all about the place, or the Hospital etc) picks it up.

Cheers, and thanks again :)

Does anyone know if the young guy who encountered 3 hairies on Kings Tableland posts here?

I'm still curious to know why he stopped his car, when it all unfolded. Given how terrifying it must have been, I couldn't figure out why he didn't just floor it and get out of there. Would love an answer to that question.

Bit of a late reply. I found this thread after I was searching Kings Tableland Road.

Anyway, I think I know you you're talking about. Justin? I know him. He doesn't really go seeking this stuff out I believe he slowed down and stopped because he thought they were people initially.

Hi, I have lurked for a while, and recently joined ( is th er e an introduction thread for new joiners?) Anyway, I used to live lower blue mountains and would occaisionally go for walks up in that area,. I can definitely relate to a feeling of eerienees in there. Being so close to the carchment exclusion zone might be a reason it gets visits from yowies. I once did a bike ride down the Anderson fire trail and then on to the Oaks fire trail, that was a long day. After leaving the Bedford picninc area, there was a definite feeling of relief to get onto the Oaks.
Anyway while not having seen anythng strange in that particular area, I do recall seeing in lower blue mountains a yowie tripod tructure and broken large limbs of trees. It was only after seeing a yowie related video on this site, i think, years afterwards that I remembered this and associated it with yowies. It was not far from the Portal waterhole in the Glenbrook end of the park. The tripod joined about 6ft off the ground, the wood used was probably 5cm or so thick and firmly planted into the ground, I remeber trying to shift it to see how deep it was, but could not. Also in the bush close by were large limbs of trees broken down, of the order of 10 to 15 cm thick, broken from a height highr than I could reach. At the time I remember thinking, who could do this and why, ( I was thinking had some elphants escaped from somewhere to pull off the tree limbs?) I did not associate with Ywies until years later. This would have been about 2003 or so. The location was just past the waterhoe on the eastern side, the track sort of continues a bit.
Another anecdote, my brother was in the scouts, probably about 40 years ago, they were camping with other scout troops at Bents Basin, he told me that one scout, from another troop, had had a fit after seeing a yowie , I did not know anything about yowies back then.
Anyway, now my 1st post is finished, I may drop in again with some pithy remarks from time to time. I really appreciate the openness on this forum, keep up the good work.
