Anyone seen this before?

BONES OF GIANT MEN
FOUND IN CAVE
DISCOVERY IN NEW ZEALAND
Human Skeleton 7 Feet High
AUCKLAND (NZ), Friday - A huge
cavern which was apparently inhabited
by human beings in ancient times has been
discovered at Whangaroa. The cave is
about 40ft in height and 50ft in width
Deep in the dust on the floor are the
bones of human beings, fish, and birds,
mingled with strange bones, possibly of
moas. Several of the skeletons have red-
dish "fuzzy" hair adhering to the skulls
raising doubts whether they are those of
Maoris. The skeletons are huge. That of
one man it is estimated is almost 7ft
in height. The inhabitants of the cave
apparently lived in captivity. Their cook-
ing and sleeping places are fairly intact.
The discoverers say positively that it is
not a burial cave.

Are there any official records of this in NZ?

In Māori tradition patupaiarehe, also known as tūrehu and pakepakehā, were fairy-like creatures of the forests and mountain tops. Although they had some human attributes, patupaiarehe were regarded not as people but as supernatural beings (he iwi atua).

They were seldom seen, and an air of mystery and secrecy still surrounds them. In most traditions, those who encountered patupaiarehe were able to understand their language. But in one account they were unintelligible.
Physical features

Patupaiarehe had light skin, and red or fair hair. Historian James Cowan was told that ‘they were a lighter complexion than Maori; their hair was of a dull golden or reddish hue, urukehu, such as is sometimes seen in Maori of today.’ 1

Unlike Māori, they were never tattooed. Mohi Tūrei of Ngāti Porou described their skin as white, albino or the colour of red ochre. Their eye colour varied from light blue to black.

There is still debate about their height. The Tūhoe tribe records that they were small, but others say they were similar in size to humans. Whanganui stories claim them to be giants, more than 2 metres tall.

Just one more thing about this.

I have met/know of maori that do have fair skin and red hair. Interbreeding with Patupaiarehe and ponaturi dating back in time ?

Cheers mate very interesting. And hey my fiancee is a red haired kiwi lady with moari blood, but she is far from seven feet tall lol. The funny thing is that she will not accept that the red hair comes from Scottish decent from back in the days of colonial occupation of NZ.

The maori I referred to in my post above is a guy who is about 2m tall and he has a very solid build and he has red frizzy/afro hair. The hair is the same/similar description to that of the 1934 article in your first post.

Seems the world wide phenom of ancient red haired giants has turned up in another isolated area of the planet.

I see all these legends as factual based on what I've read over the last 35 years.
Why is science not investigating these traditions more?
Or ,are the rumors of hidden, inconvenient, archaeological finds true?

DOUBLE ROWS OF YELLOW TEETH?

I've known of the following article for some time, but I never really paid attention to the description where it mentions DOUBLE ROWS OF TEETH?
This was a common claim during the giant skeleton discovery days in America some hundred years ago and prior to native grave disturbance laws being passed.

It also relates to recent theories of a bipedal upright marsupial in Australia....call it what you will.....Bunyip.....Yowie....but at nine feet tall it,s a giant.

To the Editor of the Kangaroo Valley Pioneer.
Sir,—Under the caption "What can it be ?" in a
recent issue of the Suburban Telegraph, I notice a
paragraph copied from your journal, referring to a
strange animal as having been seen lately at Meryla
by a man named Mullany. This man will no doubt
be looked upon by some of your readers—all-wise
in their own conceit—as a liar, fool, or madman ;
but in confirmation of the truth of his story, and of
the fact that at least one such animal as that he
describes exists in the Barrima district, I herewith
unhesitatingly submit my own testimony, which, if
necessary, can be substantiated by three other witnesses.
One warm day in the month of February, 1871,
whilst myself and party were having lunch at the
foot of a rocky, cavernous hill at Bundanoon, our
attention was drawn to the unusual and decided
manifestations of terror exhibited by a large dog of
the bull and mastiff species, which invariably accompanied
me on my bush excursions, and which
was, so to speak, "as game as a bulldog ant"—about
the only living thing that will encounter fire. The
animal came from the direction of a large overhanging
cliff, crouching up close to me, trembling,
and whining in a most pitious and unaccountable
manner. Thinking that a snake had bitten the dog,
I, with my companions, proceeded in the direction
of the cliff, taking care to well arm ourselves with
the most effective weapons at hand—sticks and
stones. On emerging from the scrub we found ourselves
on a strip of smooth, white sand, about 20
yards wide, fronting the cavern. On this sand we
found fresh tracks of such size and shape as to
baffle all our zoological speculations. The tracks
were clearly defined, resembling in some degree an
outline of the human foot, but much larger, considerably
wider in proportion, and showing seven
instead of five toe-marks, the great toe, unlike that
of the human foot, being on the outer side. Between
the lines formed by the footprints, was a
trail such as could be made by dragging a bush or
broom over the sand; and as this trail was equidistant
from each line of footmarks, I reasonably concluded
that it was caused by the tail of the tail of the strange
animal that we had tracked to its rooky lair—for
the tracks led right into the cave, about the mouth
of which heaps of bones of various animals lay
bleaching, including those of a horse. With the
object of dislodging the monstrosity, I caused a huge
pile of dry bushes to be built and set fire to at the
mouth of the cavern. In a state of breathless expectancy
we awaited developments ; and a favouring
gust of wind blew the dense mass of smoke and
flames fair into the opening. A roar like an earthquake,
followed by the sound of falling rocks from
higher up the hill, startled us, and through the ascending
clouds of smoke we saw clambering up the
rugged face of the hill, with long, bushy tail erect,
and dislodging the stones as it clawed its way upward,
an animal such as I had never before seen,
heard, read, or dreamt of in my philosophy, and
which had escaped from the cave through a side opening,
as I could see by the smoke which made
exit from the same quarter. As near as I can describe
it, the creature appeared to be fully nine feet
in height; head large, and resembling that of a
baboon, but with a face more human-like ; arms
long, black, muscular, and devoid of hair ; body
large and round, almost balloon-shaped, and striped
black and yellow like that of an iguana; legs of extraordinary
length, with apparently two knee-joints
in each, black, leather-like, and seemingly devoid of
hair. Before disappearing over the summit of the
hill ; it turned around and made several hideous
grimaces at us, displaying a double tier of long yellow
teeth. Attached to its back immediately above
the tail, there swung its baggy appendage, from
which something living protruded, and which we
took to be either its young or some animal captured
and stored for food.
About a week later I saw the same animal (or one
similar to it) on a tree near the road leading from
the top of the Barrengarry Mountain to Burrawang
—about a mile from the junction ; and having, no
firearms, I must acknowledge my cowardice, and
admit that I made myself scarce pretty quick.
Some time ago I was reading a letter written by a
Mr. McEwey to one of the papers, where he refers to
the existence in the Trunkey and Forbes districts of
a tribe of Australian monkeys. If the creature
which I saw is one of these, then Australia can
safely lay claim to the possession of the most hideous
race of monkeys on the face of the earth ; and
it is no wonder the poor blacks have a wholesome
dread of the dibbildibbil, yahoo, or bunyip.

Hi Paul,

The double row teeth we have heard of before. In fact I edited a Yowie Report from NSW last year which states double row teeth. Unfortunately I can't remember which Report it was, as there are so many and hard to keep up with. There has also been Reports from the U.S. of double row teeth.

Another Yowie curve ball that has popped up 3 times now are yellow eyes that blink sideways, similar to some form of Reptilian look.

The giants of genesis have double row teeth, first I have heard of eyes that blink sideways however, would not surprise me.

We know so little about all this - about so many things - nothing can be dismissed or entirely discounted. Who knows how many regional variations of non-human bipeds there are in the world? Any number of traits could exist.

There are so many genetic peculiarities that can happen in mammals (such as leucism or albinism) which aren't confined to any particular species, that red hair being present in the Maori population before the arrival of Europeans doesn't seem far-fetched to me.

American Brothers Jim and Bill Vieira's extensive search for giant skeletons.
After researching tales of giants being sighted along with old accounts of giant bones being uncovered across the country. There research mentions double rows of teeth in almost every historical account of skeletal finds.
