Saw some strange things in exmouth western Australia

Hi all. I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this. Could be something could be nothing. In 2001 we were on holiday in exmouth, our annual fishing trip. A friend and I left the husbands at camp to go and do the yardie Creek and mandu mandu gorge walk. It hadnt rained up there for a few years so the yarfie Creek was dry. We followed the markers from point to point on the walk and ended up down in the creek. We then noticed in the creek bed were piles of rocks everywhere, a group of 5 here a group of 2 there and so on. The rock stacks looked nothing like I've seen on the forum here. They were more like small pyramids, perfectly made. There were too many the length of the creek for people to make. Some were half a metre high some were small.

At first we thought who or what has made these and how perfect they all were. The rocks used were rocks from the creek bed, all smooth and round but you didn't see any holes on edge of Creek bed or near where pyramids were. I call them that as that's exactly the shape they all were. It was fascinating to say the least. We were the only ones around, we never touched any of them as we thought could we possibly be in a sacred sight area we shouldn't be in? Anyway, we mentioned to husbands when we got back but they had no clue either.

OK, 2nd thing in exmouth, the following year in 2002. A whole group of us stayed out at the yardie Creek homestead. One afternoon about 4pm the girls and I decided to go for a walk up the back of the camp as in the distance we could see what we thought was a cave and decided to go have a look. It would have been a km or 2 from site. It was on a hill, not really a cave as such, more an alcove, and boy did it stink!!!BUT, there was nothing in there, a few old bones but no carcass. It smelt like a dead roo though! ! Anyway, again I never touched anything, we sat there for a bit and realized it was getting late so started to head back to camp. This is the strange bit. The girls were just in front of me, I was walking behind looking where I was walking, and out the corner of my right eye I saw something. It was a black cat. It literally came out of nowhere, crossed in front of me looked straight at me then disappeared on my left, down a small crack in a rock that was not deep? I stopped dead in my tracks and asked the other girls if they just saw the black cat , to which they didn't.

I couldn't believe in the middle of nowhere a black cat runs across in front of me, as I sit here now I can see him plain as day, the strange thing was at the time we had a little black cat, identical to the one I saw same size, same everything. Anyway, it had me stumped, I know there are lots of feral cats out there, but of all the places I happen to see a black one, just like mine at home, in the middle of nowhere? Why not a grey feral cat, or brown, or white even? Well, the next part of this story gets even more interesting.

We got back to camp, I told my husband what I saw he didn't think much of it. The next day we decided to go home a day earlier than planned. When we got home, would you believe there was a letter from the local ranger saying that our black cat had been impounded, and had one day left for collection or he would be euthanized! !! Got him out just in time! ! Coincedence?

I had forgotten all about these events until recently when my husband started researching and learning about yowies etc. And then I remembered exmouth 2001 and 2002 . We have spoken with some local indigenous people where we live, I told them everything. The lady I spoke with believed quite possibly I was in a yowie lair, both in the creek bed and the alcove, she believed they are shape shifters, and they will let you see them if they want to. She said that particular one must have liked me as he was telling me by being the black cat, to get home, something isn't right. What are your thoughts on this? Not once did I ever feel uneasy or scared in exmouth, in the gorges or walking back to camp on dark, at peace but never afraid. My apologies for the long story but I've been busting to tell the right people who might listen seriously for years! ! Thanks so much

That could be very interesting or maybe just a coincidence. Have you had a look at the rock stacks in the video in the " went bushwalking" thread on this page?

Personally i wouldnt discount the Aboriginal lore. They are the ones who had been living beside the yowies for thousands of years and our dedicated frustrated researchers still havent been able to prove the yowie even exists or obtain one clear photograph.

Hi, yes I have seen the photos of rock stacks on the topic you mentioned. No, these were perfect pyramid shape the whole length of the creek bed was covered in them, I regret now not taking any photos, I even asked the girl who was with me but she can't remember them! ! Funny as when I reminded the other girls just recently of our past adventure, they all don't remember much. Am I the only one with a good memory? Oh well, I saw that can plain as day, without a doubt it was real. Thanks for your reply anyway

Those stacks sound amazing. The loss of memory is something others have mentioned in relation to yowie encounters. Someone i know had a very strange experience with a "massive bloke" in the middle of the night on the newell hwy. It scared the hell out of him and he always used to talk about it. I spoke to him recently and he barely recalled the incident. When i reminded him , he looked as shocked as he did when it happened!

Im not discounting your experience at all. I have similar theories myself and i know others do as well. There is some strange things happening in the Aussie bush and nothing would suprise me! Best to keep an open mind on these things.

Yes, thank you. The indigenous lady I spoke with said we did the right thing by not touching anything, but if I was to go back to the cave, ledge, not to go in just go around as that was probably his home, to which I will visit again, as this time I will welcome any signs etc with an open mind, and who knows! ! Hopefully heading up next year some time.

I doubt anyone can provide you with any definite answers on this stuff. The only reports of shapeshifting i can think of offhand on the forum is the thread by Wellymon " finally got to see the hairys" and talking about that didnt work out to well to say the least.

Also in the thread i started " is the yowie a highly evolved hominid" has some cool and interesting reports from some of our top researchers.

In the latest "yowie times" online magazine there is a witness report from someone who had a friendly hairyman lead them out of the bush and then acting as a kind of guardian afterwards among other things.

American researcher themanfromglad claims the bigfoots turn invisible and follow you home so theres a lot of different theories.Lots of reports of them dissapearing too. The AYR audio reports are worth listening to as well. Hope thats a help!

Hi Assegaiobami
Thanks for sharing your experience. There are other reports of Yowies in the Exmouth area. If you search Exmouth within the forum there is a couple other experiences that have been written about. If you do go back to the area it would be great if you could get some photos. It's also great that you spoke to the local aboriginals they have been living side by side with the Yowie for thousands of years.
I'm a field researcher based in WA and if you have anymore info or hear about others please let me know.
Cheers Slats

As far as rock stacks go, I wouldn't be to quick to in thinking it is yowie built. I drove past a beach between Port Douglas and Cairns that had hundreds of rock stacks, obviously tourist made.

My mother also does them with the grandkids. Only takes one person to start and others follow.

Thanks everyone for your input. Zed, I never stated the rock stacks were from yowies , only that they were interesting, and I thought I'd share it. Anyway, the next time I see something of interest I'll be sure to take photos, this land is vast and wide, there's bound to be plenty more interesting things out there!

Hi Assegaiobami,
I believe you could have been in a Yowie lair with a sacred signifficance just as the lady you spoke to stated. I think the Yowie respected your decision not to touch anything or remove the stones on the pyramids and decided to repay you with a premonition that your black cat may be in danger.
IMO these creatures are shapeshifters just as many of the local indigenous folk will tell you. Aboriginal people have a great advantage because they haven't been influenced by modern-day theories and see the truth only as they have witnessed it without any prejudice from outsiders.
Without any disrespect but I would rather sit down with these folk and listen to what they have to say than the contradictory opinions out there by non-indigenous people.

Have to agree there Senses same goes for any indigenous person around the globe whether it be Australian indigenous, North or South American etc. Although not much is heard of the South America's they would be there.
