"The drone of Grandfather's didgeridoo echoed amongst the rocks and seemed to stir the flames of the fire with its magic.

Gunham felt its vibrating, pulsating heartbeat of the earth melt into his bones as he watched the old man play. His Grandfather's eyes were closed, his cheeks filling and pushing with the rise and fall of the ancient sound. Above the campfire the stars seems to come closer, the better to listen to the sound of the land filling the night..."

I used this story to present several theories as to what ‘Doohligal’ (Yowie) is.

Between 3 and 5% of Koorie (aboriginal) DNA is apparently Denisovan, indicating the Australian Original People interacted with the truly Original ‘people’ inhabiting this ancient continent.

Not long after the First Fleet arrived in Australia an estimated 70% (it could have been near 90%) of the Koories (called Murries in the south) died off as a wave of smallpox crossed the entire country via the trade routes. The vast majority died having never even heard of the giant white swans bearing strange men and animals that had sailed into Sydney Harbour. The plague swept the continent far faster than the white fella did.

Some say it was intentional germ warfare designed to erase the original ‘owners’ of the continent. (Much like what occurred in the US)

This story is based a generation after this genocidal event that also wiped out large swathes of the Doohligal (Yowie) tribes.

Incredible ! This could be a factual account without too much imagination, (for all we know).

I finally got a bit of time to myself to read your story, Wolf, and I'm incredibly glad I did.

This is a stunningly good, yet sad, piece of writing, written with compassion, emotion and respect.

Beautifully and descriptively detailed, and with what I suspect may be personal insights as well.

Just got to get an agent to take on 'Innocence Lost''.

I'm currently building up my rejection letter collection.

These things take time and if the year ends without a publisher I will go ahead and self-publish.
