Within recent months I have moved back to our farm at Kungala in the Clarence Valley.
Last Friday whilst sitting around my outdoors fire I heard that distinctive KNOCK! .
There was only one report with no follow ups , I have never had that feeling on my farm however on the neighboring property across the road there was a cabage gum plantation, now cleared and there was strong evidence of the trees being accessed for a food source Bardie grubs ect .
It is prime country round here so some form of contact may be expected.
My question is do they usually only produce the 1 knock or are there experiences of more , say for example 3 in a row , additionally would it be wise to reply or might this drive them away ??

Ive experienced up to 8 knocks at my go to spot. Some days just the one at a time.. i was replying everytime every weekend for about three months, even though theyre now gone, i dont believe it was from me replying.

Usually the knocks at my spot start from one direction and sometimes come from 4 or 5 directions. Pretty weird feeling being central to the knocking. Really makes you wonder what theyre doing when you know theyre basically all around you. I've also notices some days it sounds like wood, sometimes like rock and sometimes "chesty" or even mechanical. Incredible experience to say the least

Gday Al , at the spot I have been going to for around 5 years , I only ever hear one solitary knock and it is a rare occasion .
The best I had was at my "gifting stump " I left my usual fruit and veg , gave a knock on a burnt out tree like I always do when im leaving
and left , I would of been about 200m from there but out of sight , when there was a definite loud knock on the same tree , by the time I got back in sight of the stump the fruit etc was gone .
It was like it was saying thanks , but normally when I do hear one it is mostly from a distance

We had 29 knocks in a row up here it was like someone taking a cricket bat to a gum tree, very powerful. That was definitly one night they did not want us in there.

It would certainly be a bit daunting being surrounded like that .
I think I might finally try out the gifting spot idea, Rusty had some success with this technique!
If they are around then I would like to have them know
I am not foe , it would be great to build some kind of acknowledgement with them .

Hi, as Ron said we have had 29 knocks before in a row--extremely loud.
But at our usual destination we visited regularly we would knock twice,they would knock twice, we would knock 3 times, they would knock 3 times. I believe its communication method, we have never driven them away. We would knock to ask if they were there and they would simply reply.Fundly enough its the same 1 that walks up the creek bank on our left, we always knock on the same tree not far in after we have entered.
Other times we would just walk and we would here 1 knock in the distance.

Your experience really does suppress the outcry from critics that these knocking sounds are produced by frogs or toads .
I have heard the noise being produced from a frog in the Woolgoolga creek reserve area and it's more a deep drum sound .
And they certainly don't reply with matching beats .

Although the locals are either oblivious or don't give a rats pygamas as no one has ever mentioned anything, well not unsolicited anyway.
I finally have a weekend at home this week so I think I will ramp things up and in my own backyard BONUS!

Heard my first knock a couple of weeks ago. Just the one as we turned to leave the area we were in.

Interesting, the only time ive heard knocks is when ive been on my way out and just set foot on the track out to leave the area.
