In a recent International Enduro event in Tennessee I was watching a YouTube on board video of the eventual winner Cody Webb and spotted what looks like a large Bigfoot running toward the rider on the left. In fact its a burnt out stump made to look like its moving by the way the camera pans left and right.
In the first instant you think you see legs moving in a running fashion but then it freezes and becomes a stump. 12 seconds later the rider looks to his left to see if the bigfoot is still chasing him. Watch other sections of the video to see the phenomenon repeating.
Fast forward to 11 minutes and 9 seconds and watch the left of screen.

Well, sort of I guess, but hardly even rates as pareidolia IMHO . . .

Seems to me these days that every moving image and even pics are through a lens that elongates everything on the edges.
You see it on telly with news readers and such; people being interviewed in a chair have pointy elbows or a fat leg
if their too close to the edge.
You also see it in those baroque real estate adds with their candy filter twilights and huuuge living areas.
I don’t know ripperton whether this happens with our normal vision. Maybe through a helmet lens moving fast through the bush,
bedazzled by the flickering saplings passing by ?
Could be BF for all we know or the distortion explains it.

Couldn't quite make it out either . Was good watching the video though and reliving my enduro days. And yeah, heaps of stuff flick past your side vision while concentrating on a track. No time to stop and look unless on a social ride. Cheers.

Yeah its good to watch the pros do their magic.
I dont think the rider would have experienced the surging effect that is evident in the video. He wouldnt have seen that tree move like in the video.
When the rider looked back 12 seconds later he was looking for other riders or a track marker not a sasquatch.
The first time I watched that video I jumped when it got to that part and got a chill down my spine, went and rewound it 6 times.
