That wild boar sound...mate, I laughed pretty hard at that one.
Those are interesting - especially the comparison of the different fox sounds. The 'Sierra Sounds' thing is a hoax in my opinion, but there were some recordings in the doco The Mysterious Monsters that I remember as being unusual. Admittedly that was made in 1975 so the recording quality wasn't great, and I'm not familiar with American animal sounds, but there was some stuff in that film which made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I heard it.
I've never seen, heard or experienced anything out in the bush I couldn't identify or explain. At no point have I ever felt unsafe or 'watched' or experienced unexplained dread, etc. I do keep in mind that these things are - according to indigenous stories - incredible mimics. If a big part of their primary survival strategy is remaining hidden from us then using audio-camouflage would make a lot of sense. Especially if they were warning one another of the presence of humans nearby. If they're smart - and it seems they are - then mimicking sounds made by other creatures might be another way of avoiding detection.
This is a great find, Shazz.

Very interesting , Thanks Shaz
I can see how lots of the sounds can be misidentified especially over in the states , but we don't have lions and tigers and bears ( oh my ) etc ,
all the vocalisations that i have heard sound nothing like any of them , more like a very loud chatter/ yell , very hard to describe but like nothing ive
heard before ( always in the middle of the night , between 12 and 3 )
I too believe they could be master mimics and maybe they are trying to mimic us , what i have heard was definately NOT human and unlike any bush critter that i know of , and ive spent most of my life going bush and think i know most bush noises
Cheers Greg
