Scratch marks then fires

Unread post by Tuckeroo »

I took these photo’s a few days before the Myall creek fire burnt out parts of the southern boundary of Bundjalung N.P.
It was an area of scrub that I liked wandering through but sadly now is severely burnt.

I came across what I think are scratch marks on a fig tree.
They are only on one section on one side of the tree about a metre off the ground.
No other trees in the area have these marks on them.
Would a Possum make these marks, maybe even a wild dog or something else ?

Sorry if the fire aftermath pics makes anyone feel as miserable as I do about our beloved bushland being burnt out.
I can’t wait for the first decent rain to bring on a flush of new growth.

Oh wow Tuckeroo......sorry to see that beautiful bushland is burnt. I am surrounded where I live by rainforest, but nervously await our so-called fire season. We haven’t had decent rainfall since February here so everything’s a bit parched.
Just in regards to those scratch marks......it definitely could be possums. I have also seen very large Monitors/Goanna type of tree climbing lizards do that too.

I sincerely hope this entire nation of ours gets some rainfall soon. God knows we need it!
