Yowie Filmed when we were at the Barrington Tops area.

This video was filmed by Katie Austin of the Aust Crypto Tribe Facebook group. This was a joint Blue Mountains/ Aust Crypto Tribe Group Yowie research weekend in the Barrington Tops area in 2018. After I heard a woodknock and then seeing something move within the bush, I decided to walk about 5 metres into the thick bush beside the road we were walking along. I concentrated my night vision straight ahead and to the right, mainly because the others were to the left of me and were shining their torches in that area. So after we searched the area and seeing nothing Katie showed us something we missed with our own eyes. Very interesting video.

Very interesting video Dan, how it just shapeshifts so smoothly. How far away was it roughly?

Given there's another torch moving, the round leaves may Form those shadows and the torch moving may make it seem as though the eyes are moving.

The first part I'm thinking Pareidolia. Mainly because of light projected by the torches. Then combined with the folage it makes it look alive. The second one was really freaky as I was in the bush near it. They were mere metres from us.

Wow, I didn't see the second part until then sorry. Yes, seems to have texture and the movement of the hand is independent of the torch. If you heard it as well that's interesting.

Looks like he/she was trying to stay out of sight.

Were you using NV or thermal?

I was about 5 metres into the bush just off the road. I was using my camera that has a night vision mode. I didn't capture anything on as I didn't record to my left as everyone else was there shining there torches. So I thought if anything is there they will see it and tell me. You can see something move slowly and without any sound as it was so quiet there. They are the stealthiest creatures.

Two interesting pieces of footage

The first one looks like it has two great big black eyes on it at one point and then its suddenly gone as if slipped into invisible mode, could be just a play on light much like others have suggested, Pareidolia? intriguing none the less.

The second piece of footage...... WOW, I am trying not to get too excited but I think thats some of the best footage I have seen, looks like a hunched over big black gorilla with something in its hand walking away from the camera. Thats quite incredible footage.

Well done to all involved and thanks for sharing Yowiedan (thumb up)

Geez - that's eerie. Did you get a feeling at all? Seems like it didn't want to be seen, rather than being overtly aggressive - but that can obviously change very quickly.

I was about to ask the same question aaq did regarding a sense of being watched or just an instinctual vibe of danger. That was a very interesting clip. Thanks for sharing it.

The first part clearly looks like pareidoilia to me.

The second does look like a dark coloured something fairly large standing up a bit and moving a little deeper into the bush. Its pretty interesting.

Nice , you can definitely see what appears to be something "standing up" .

If someone had thermal vision ………………………………………

I actually find the earlier parts really interesting too - you can see it there as the torch sweeps past. Brightness/contrast might make it stand out better.

This is brilliant footage, great work... I think I've watched it 20 times already.

I've just been looking closely at the footage .

Don't quote me but I think it's facing the camera , something is in its LEFT hand and it's Right hand is covering it's eyes in a salute fashion as it seems to stand up . File attached below .

Thanks Dan and friends for sharing the footage and Rusty for the great gif. I saw that main bit as hand there too. Other "hand" looks to be holding a stick.

Could be a human bloke or a hairy bloke . I think its a hairy bloke.

Not trying to find things that aren't there but I couldn't help but notice something.

If anyone is looking at the gif on the big screen. Have a look to the right of screen and right next to the main subject and above the "hand" and to the left. Is that a peeker taking a very super quick peek when main thing moves?

Just to answer some questions to why we stopped there. All five of us walked along the road during the night around 8pm by memory. The weather was still and cold. The night was cold as you could see your breath when you exhaled. While walking along the road I recorded a loud woodknock. There was no other noises so the woodknock was clearly heard. The road started to become steep so we all decided to walk back down the road. We were slowly walking when I thought I saw a dark figure which I thought could also be a trick of the light from the number of torches moving around. But I did hear a russle in the surrounding bush. So as the road levelled out we decided to stop as I did alert the others that I did hear something. Seeing I had a 4k night vision camera I walked in the bush about 5 metres in. We never heard or saw anything while we were there filming. Katie caught it while standing on the road with the others while I concentrated straight ahead and to my right. I did film to the left for a minute or so but as I didn't see anything I concentrated on the bush straight ahead of me. No one felt threatened at anytime or saw anything while we were standing there filming. But sometimes the camera picks up the most suttle things our eyes miss in the dark. When I first saw this clip 2 years ago I was shocked that something moved right in front of us and we didn't see it. The buggers blend in so well, this one also kept quiet and we never heard it take one step. It's one area I will love to research again for sure. DEFINITELY worth doing if your able to spend sometime there.

Nice work guys, whish I was there, I really miss QLD (insert sad grumby face :( ).

In regards to the full screen image (thanks Rusty), can we rule out a possum with a along white tip tail? Where the hand grabs the tree trunk, look at the image bottom right, it appears to move the same time as the hand, hence I am thinking the tip of a tail. Obviously I want to be wrong lol.

One gain, excellent work guys.

Aside from the tricks played by light on branches, I was wondering what video editing software was used to edit the video?

That second piece of footage is quality - genuinely looks like something of interest. Id love to see some serious visual analysis of this done. Maybe we could pull out more detail?

Hey Black, I'm not sure what was used, but if you want to know ask Katie Austin from the Australian Cryptozoology Tribe Facebook group. She will be able to tell you the program.
