This is what ive started telling people that laugh and call me crazy about my yowie obsession..

We have 3 mythical creatures here in Australia,
1: drop bear
2: bunyip
3: yowie

In the times of Australian mega fauna we had the marsupial lion (thylacoleo) it had opposable thumbs so it was able to climb trees and drop down on its prey, its where "drop bear" came from.. it did exist

The Bunyip was different to different aboriginal tribes, victoria had a bunyip that had a long gray body and big black eyes, it came from the salt and swims up rivers, it also swims in billabongs and creeks. It can climb onto land and has a loud cry... in 1937 it was proven to be a seal.. QLD had a similar bunyip but theres ate people.. it was a salt water crocodile.. they DO exist

The yowie... its still seen all over the world in every country, big foot, sasquatch, skunk ape, grass man, yeti, abominable snow man.. why would 1 out of the 3 be made up? Did all of our ancestors send a crow with a note to each other saying (hey lets all draw pictures of giant ape men in our caves to stuff up the people of the future) what a laugh they must of had..

Makes the non believers think about it..

There possibly are Yowies in the Bunyip state forest. How about that! Dunno about drop bears though. I'm not sure if it's still closed to the public after the fires of March 2019. I don't live far from there, last time I tried to go through was November. I'm going to go camp out there if/when it's open to the public.

Or possibly the 'Black Panthers' people report seeing are remnant Marsupial Lions?

Wolf, that very thing has been conjectured, but up close, I reckon it would be possible to think you're looking at some kind of a big cat, purely because nothing else we know of in the Australian bush, looks anything remotely like it!

The small rounded ears and other 'cosmetic' guesstimates from skull and muscle group reconstructions are just that, suggestions of how the Thylacoleo might have looked, but small, rounded ears are a hallmark of big cat sightings, right along with the short 'stop' down to the muzzle and broad nose.

I like to think it's possible the 'leo is still around

From my understanding, out of those three, the Drop Bear has no real links to Indigenous folklore. It is more so a creation of modern man. The Bunyip and Yowie however can be linked back to Indigenous folklore.

Whenever people tell me Yowies can't be real, I always reference the strong connection they have to Indigenous folklore. Back then there was no real reason to prank someone or create a hoax. Modern man has the ability to pollute current day Yowie stories and experiences to the point where modern humans not aware of the Yowie doubt they exist. That to me the the main reason I strongly believe Yowies exist. This can be applied to Bunyips. However, for Drop Bears, it is clear to me that they are a creation of modern man.

The 'drop bear' thing I first heard in the 80's. Even then, it was considered a bullshite tale for Aussies to use almost exclusively to scare tourists, particularly as many were no doubt told when planning their trip, that Australia has no dangerous predatory animals larger than a dingo.

Add to that, the fact some Aussies have heard of the Tassie Tiger (Thylacine), almost none of the people I've met (including crypto people only interested in the yowie) have heard of Thylacleo carnifex - the marsupial lion.

So, expecting the average Aussie to also know about Thylacoleo could be a big ask. Linking that beast also with the 'drop bear' c**p might be something the odd crypto person might do, but I can't see it being something a lot of others would. Just my .02.

And for the record, I despise the whole 'drop bear tourist scare' thing, it's redolent of primary school playgrounds and pre-teen children. Doing it as an adult does nothing constructive, and falls into the culture of 'hazing' and that kind of garbage. Unecessary and childish.

The marcupial lion is where drop bear came from, i think modern times changed it to a koala because the lion had a head that looked a lot like a koala, the lion would sit up in trees and drop down onto its prey. I also thought it was a stupid thing and couldn't understand why it was made up untill i watched a documentary on mega fauna where they say its where "drop bear originated from". Ive also heard of it being made up to scare tourists, but theres no need to make up an animal when we already have the worlds most deadliest snakes, the most deadliest spiders, the most deadliest jellyfish, big ass crocodiles and the yowie..
