I have a theory / question regarding Yowies utilising not only the natural surrounds but also the weather as an organic cloak to mask their presence .
With today in south eastern Queensland being an above average windy day I feel it's a good time for some mid day research.
I believe that they utilise the sounds that the wind pose on the bush to get in closer and flank us when we are walking the trails and tracks in our chosen areas of research.
They are already known to use the cover of din light and dark as camouflage .
Perhaps naturally occurring sound effects are also in their armoury .
My thoughts are when out in these conditions, is to pay closer attention to the sides of the trail and somehow without giving it away try to peer deeper into the scrub at your flanks rather than concentrate on what's in front of you so intently.
Well it's Monday and I have reduced working days (thanks covid-19)
So I'm heading out to test my theory and the current weather conditions in my chosen area are perfect for this test .
What are your thoughts regarding this technique ????

Hey Al. Yes. Would maximize the chance of seeing one I think. My first thought when reading this was maybe 2 cameras mounted pointing to both sides. I think this would be really useful to confirm a visual sighting. But then I think the temptation to review the raw footage might lead to 100 instances of paradoilia. Good luck with the method mate. Be interesting to see how it goes.

I believe you are correct in what you say Al.
Soldiers ,thieves and magicians have been using sound ,natural or created to distract their chosen target forever, why not yowies?

The colder months are what I call Yowie season. The rain and cold keep a lot of tourists away, so the Yowies come out to play!

I attended Witches Falls to up on Mount Tambourine .
There were quite a few hikers tackling the tracks considering it was a windy Monday.
No Hairy's spotted , however there are many unexplained tracks crossing the walking track heading straight up or down the very steep decent .
If you walk along one of these tracks you can clearly see the tunnel/passage that is formed through the undergrowth in the forrest that would have been made by a very large individual indeed .
When I walk where they have been I feel their presence .
It's a weird feeling but I am sure that there are other contributors on here that may agree .
I'll go back there but next time I'll get there at dusk and come back from the falls under torch light .
Gotta get this thing moving along Lol

If you look really closely in the right hand side of the a second picture you can see that there is absolutely nothing to see !!!

I once saw a big black pregnant panther early in the morning at first light on a forest road . It was blowing a gale and although she could see me she couldn't hear me and continued on her way apparently unfazed by my approaching car . When she heard the car she took off .
So in my opinion , bad weather may very well be used as a cloak for the hairies but may also be a disadvantage .
You would imagine that their sense of smell and hearing would be greatly diminished if it was blowing a gale or raining cats and dogs .
Can't hear or smell what's happening .
Just a thought ……...

I could only imagine the uneasiness that can build when walking alone through a pine forest late on a windy afternoon !
The noise of the wind alone is disorienting !

When I was younger whenever I went bush with my dad whenever it was windy we always were able to get a lot closer to wildlife (feral horses/roos/foxes) than on a still day especially if wind was going against us. So perhaps windy days given right conditions would be a chance to spot YOWIE's easier?
Also I went to witches falls the other day..I've never seen a walking trail so busy! Hopefully it's died down a bit since then

I was up at Witches falls last week but injury prevented me from going all they way down the track.. although I could swear I felt aware of Yowies being around somehow... was a weird feeling.
