This enduring Australian mystery dates from October,1978. It is arguably our country's most talked about UFO investigation.
There are numerous videos that well document this bizarre case. Hopefully we can post some of them here.
The Valentich case is unique in being the only known encounter where a pilot was in direct contact with his Control Tower when he was seemingly snatched from the sky.

I remember being fascinated by the Valentich ufo incident when I first heard about it.
I imagined what it would have been like, the fear of a pilot over that body of water in the night time.
It’s a bit of a stretch to call Bass Strait our aussie version of the Bermuda Triangle but you couldn’t ask
for a better setting for this mysterious incident. There seems to be a bit of speculation about Valentich’s
motives and that he was inexperienced; he may have been flying upside down etc.
I know under water you can lose your sense of which ways up but sitting in a padded seat looking through
a windscreen. Wouldn’t you notice your face becoming flushed, your clothing gathering around your neck.
Poor Fred, I wonder what really happened to him, great to see a memorial for him on Cape Otway.
He was doing pretty good for a 20 year old, when I was 20 I could barely follow the directions on a
can of soup let alone fly solo in the night over bass strait. Which begs the question,
was he qualified to fly that route solo and at night, aren’t you supposed to have a flight plan for
Kangaroo Island but It was the 1970’s and we all know what went on back then.
It makes you think there’s a bit more to this case when authorities refuse to disclose the last moments
of the radio call. Thanks R2 for the link to that other story about the farmer seeing a Cessna
stuck under a large ufo, even dripping oil…..jeez, adds another layer of mystery to it all.

Thanks for posting the videos Rusty.
I just watched the one about (the guy relating the story of) the farmer claiming he saw a Cessna stuck to the side of a UFO.
This was apparently ONE DAY after Valentich disappeared.
Really?
Jeez; I'm old enough to remember the Valentich disappearance. It was ALL OVER the media. It got world-wide coverage.
But I certainly DO NOT recall any farmer coming forward with a story like that.
I mean; wouldn't you think that, if you had seen something as clear as that, one day after the event, that you'd come forward and tell your story (remain anonymous if you like) first hand?
Nah. Sounds like a rich vein of BS to me. And that makes me sad, because Valentich's father was a staunch believer that his son had been "taken" by aliens. You could be sure that he would have believed this story. But I don't.

I thought it was interesting enough to share , I'd never heard of it before either .
I guess we'll have to decide for ourselves whether it's bs or truth . Back in those days though , alien spacecrafts weren't exactly high on the list of topics to discuss at smoko or the dinner table .

Rusty, in no way am I having a go at you for sharing it.
It's a fascinating tale.
I just don't believe it. For a start it's second-hand (not the original witness) and so is tainted by information corruption, if nothing else.
Secondly, just the fact that it has surfaced a long time after the original event...wouldn't you think if you had such amazing information you would have come forward sooner, if for NO OTHER reason than to give some form of "closure" to Valentich's family?
Cheers,
MA

Again Rusty, thanks for sharing. The farmer’s story may well turn out to be a tall tale but it certainly gets the imagination racing! I have never come across this purported sighting before. There is a surprising amount of detail contained in this 4 minute video. I have watched it at least 3 times already. The YouTube post date is Nov.6, 2018, or just over 40 years since Valentich’s disappearance.
I think MA is entitled to be skeptical for the reasons he gives. However, I grew up in a regional area and understand how most farmers would be very reluctant to publicly state they had an encounter with a UFO. Most men of the land, at least the ones I know, are quite down to earth. None of this ‘flying saucer nonsense', thanks very much! They would rather keep it to themselves in order to protect their reputation. This is the 1970’s we are talking about.
I’m wondering if VUFORS have done any research on this case? It cries out for some proper investigation. Is the farmer still alive? Does he have family or other close friends that he has confided in over the years? At least there could be some further corroboration. There are so many questions to ask in an effort to obtain any validation for this gob smacking story.

Thanks for the farmer's account, Rusty. If not for you, I'd never have heard about it. It certainly fleshes-out Valentich's disappearance and goes quite some way to explaining the sounds heard at the end of his communication and would also explain why no trace of wreckage was ever found
If factual, it would mean those who manned or controlled the UFO were able to dematerialise Valentich's plane -- or at least it seems so to me

I heard/read about that story several years ago - I thought it would have been more widely known.

This photo was taken from Cape Otway 20 minutes before the plane of Frederick Valentich disappeared.
Once again we have a poor quality very indistinct photo of a UFO.
Below is a cut and paste.
The same evening, numerous Australian citizens called with reports of UFO sightings, many of them reported strange green light in the sky, which gives credibility to Valentin’s emergency call. There were even a few eyewitnesses who watched Valentine’s plane fly in the sky, towed by green light.
And now there is new information confirming these reports. At the same time that these events were happening, the farmer was in his field and saw in the sky a huge flying machine whose dimensions reached 30 meters, lit by lights, and on the side of it hung a Cessna 821L aircraft and it was clearly visible how from its engine the body flows down butter.
The farmer saw everything clearly and even scribbled the number of the aircraft on his tractor, so as not to forget it, and when he began to write about the disappearance of the aircraft in the newspapers, he saw. that the number recorded by him coincides with Valentin’s plane.
He told several of his acquaintances about what he saw, but they ridiculed his story and advised no one to tell him any more. Now UFO researchers are trying to find this eyewitness, if he is certainly still alive and listen to his story from the first mouth.
I do remember the case because I had a supposedly UFO encounter fours years before this. I certainly believe this happened but with an entirely different perspective.

You were treated like an absolute POS if you said anything even up until recently.
In Clayton in Victoria, in the 60's or 70's, and entire School and Teachers too, watched a UFO hover above the school, then land nearby, then take off. A whole school of people witnessed it, yet the media and Government instantly kicked into gear, and set about throwing a bucket of water on the incident, and treating everyone involved as a whackjob.
Also, when I was a kid there a book about UFO sightings in Bass Strait, and there were HEAPS, I wish I could remember the name of it. One story in particular I remember the guy ckear as day saw the UFO come out of the water.

Back in the mid 1990's there was a report from a lake in NSW Central Coast (cannot think which body of water) of a strange object coming from beneath the water and shoot straight up into the sky at great speed!. From memory, I think their were other cases of UFO's in that area as well. Hell, one of my relatives swears "seeing a diamond shaped" object hover above a creek in West Gosford NSW many years ago; swears by it to this day!
