Yowie offensive weapon or not

Unread post by Ron Smith »

After listening to the latest report #184 of Benarkin State Forrest sighting and in particular the second encounter that was described when the two women were standing at the locked gate to the dump and they could smell the Yowie.

I've been thinking about the Yowie odour/smell for a while, There are a numerous reports on the AYR YT site where the informant/s have detailed the incredible deathly smell and have been wondering if the smell is some kind of offensive weapon the Yowie uses, I'm thinking along the lines of when a skunk is threatened, it produces the smell to ward off any threats.

I'm of the understanding in the animal kingdom, Animals have some sort grooming technique to keep themselves clean depending on environmental conditions were they live and need to adapt to.

Surely a Yowie, Sasquatch or similar would perform some cleaning function upon themselves, The smell that is reported by so many respondents simply cannot be what we would call 'bad body odour or bad personal hygiene practices'.

My thoughts is the smell is a mechanism the Yowie has and produces as an offensive weapon to ward off threats.

I'm really interested in members thoughts on this aspect of the Yowie.

Interesting article on the live science website possibly gives some insight into the strong Odour in some reports?

Great article Bluedog....After reading the article, It now makes me wonder from the numerous reports where the smell was present, The smell is indeed being produced from a male, and that male may have had, his partner or young one or both close by?

What do other members think of this scenario?

All animals like humans groom themselves.
One would assume yowies would be no different.
The reports of them smelling like garbage or rotten meat may be a defence mechanism??
Maybe they do have scent glands?
All speculation on my part.
The burnt Bakelite smell reported in many encounters, well that's something different entirely.
I don't know of any animal (assuming yowie is an animal) that exudes that stink?
The more I learn, the less I know.

My mate and me were standing right in the midst of that pong and for a few minutes. We never were scared or felt dread. We just looked for the source of the stink.

Shortly after we saw what i can only assume was a juvenile yowie. Shortly after that we were being chased by what we assumed to be an adult male yowie.

When it was close to us i could still smell the rancid pong but also a different unkempt animalistic stink of the beings body.

After it was gone we could still smell the rancid pong even though we couldnt see it and probably 50 metres away.

The pong hangs in your nose like smoke or pig c**p and im pretty sure we still stunk of it when we returned to the tent that mates parents commented on it.

Hope thats a help! (thumb up)

Gorillas actually emit a similar pungent odour from glands when threatened or feeling territorial. It's used as a form of communication. I would assume that's also the case with yowies/sasquatch.
