Recently whilst in the whian whian national park i had my first wood-knock replies. Was very excited to say the least. The reply was during the day and almost instantaneous and was followed by another wood-knock even further away. Got 2 more replies before all fell silent.

Attached images are some points of interest during the same hike. There are many many more but these were the most perplexing.

Awesome first experience I feel I remember someone on the forum saying that these are left by the yowie as a sort of marking or territorial point... Don't know if that's the case here but amazing non the less.

Just an update on some of my finds from the nightcap mountain ranges today..i really feel ive come across a very special area with compelling finds every time i go. Some of the Attached images are pictures of what i believe are my very first stick structures. Will keep exploring and keeping posted:):) more things to come for sure

I see on Google Maps the Whian Whian Conservation Area is "Temporarily Closed".
Does anyone know why that might be?

This area has been devastated by floods recently so everything is a no go.. im a local and have my little ways of accessing the parks

Just wanted to post a quick update on my short walk today! The park is currently closed to the public and people a far and between so these sticks are definitely suspicious..

Its an excellent area to do research Sammyboy

I have always thought that the Night Cap NP, Mount Jerusalem NP, Whian Whian area and even going North into Wollumbin, Mebbin and Lamington would be prime habitat. Has its history too.

This time of year it would be leech and tick city out there though.

Just to comment on the leeches and ticks..its a nightmare out there right now..have to be dedicated!

Some good finds today..nightcap mt range again, are these prints of a possible father and baby??. Also heard a loud woodknock which im pretty sure i captured on audio and came across a tp like structure but unfortunately my camera died.

Mind you this park is still currently closed to the public.. also the prints were directly next to eachother in single file. Stick structures and signals absolutely everywhere also.

I didnt measure them properly but ide estimate the big one between 20-25cm. One interesting thing about these prints was me and my girlfriend were extremely observant on the walk in and an almost sure they were fresh as i was making my way back to my car.
did not see any people on the way in or out. The walk is about 40mins each way. There were more suspected prints up the trail but the ground was extremely dense and the prints were not nearly as pronounced.

It's always baffled me as to who would walk around barefoot in leech infested conditions, and as you say if the park is closed, who would be out there barefoot?

Anyway again nice find, some of the best prints I have seen posted on the forum for years.

I noticed the first lot of pics provided (re sticks on the ground), these are very similar in alignment to the ones Dean and Co found on their recent exploits. I've been collecting drawings of these ground stick formations to see, over time, any similarity with the same in other areas. Also to see if the formation remains constant - it's actually interesting to see similar formations from different areas (if legit).

Good to see someone willing to fight with leeches and mosquitoes (plenty of water around) and do field work - my next trip will unfortunately be Easter.

Dion, all good questions. Sammyboy, if you have any other pics of stick stacks, etc would also love to see these.

Re foot prints - If there are more than one set of prints (i.e., walking - more than one print from one individual - left or right foot), would you have any idea the distance between two prints. Be great if they are still there and you could actually measure the distance - although we don't have a baseline for the hairy, the step distance enables another rough calculation for the potential size of the creature.

I was with Sam when he found the prints, thats my hand in the picture. I’d say the smaller print was around 7-8 cm long and i would also like to note that it only had 3 toes. They were also very heavy because i stomped in the mud as hard as i could right next to the bigger footprint and my impression was half as deep. We only found one footprint from each specimen there were no definitive pairs.

Some snaps of the sticks of suspect during the same trip as when we found the prints.

There also appeared to be some magnificent tree/tp structures that i didnt get to take pictures of because my camera had died. Will be sure to check up on them next trip with my camera and keep you updated.

Usually when footprints come to us they range from having 3, 5, or 6 toes so its not unusual to find a three toed print. I once found a three toed print in Victoria that lead me on to this field of research, It was an odd shape and I still dont know what made it.

I was looking at the bigger print you guys found and it looks like a five toed print? at least it does to me.

Yep the bigger one had 5 toes and the smaller had 3
