hi everyone..has anyone here read the book.."great australian mysteries"?..in the book is a photo of a supposed yowie and it is credited to "tim the yowie man". is this pic a still from the piper footage? its pretty inconclusive to look at ...a blurry figure...but it was kinda interesting at first glance but when i read his name it kinda threw a cloud over the whole thing. one more thing about the area the piper footage was taken..in the article i read it said the area in question was a hotspot for yowie sightings,as there had been 2 reports in the last 100 years...now maybe im looking at this all wrong but 2 sightings in 100 years does not exactly sound like a hot spot to me...but hey...who am i to say....lol

I have two copies of this book. The writer really has no true concept of the Yowie and also has done little to no background research on the subject. His real background is based on crime reporting - as you clearly see from the main subject lines. The Yowie section looks much like a sideline.

Most of the people he quotes are good friends of ours, and it feels to me that he may have received these reports third hand.

Despite lacking in the Yowie section due to being outside his parameter, the rest of the book is quite intriguing.

I've read the book too, Stuart, and didn't mind it. I agree that the Yowie section left a lot to be desired, but the other stuff was worth reading. Especially as it was reasonably priced if I remember correctly!

Personally I'm a fan, Tim is out there doing his bit and putting some effort in, beats any couch based researcher!

I enjoyed the whole book and would recommend it to anyone who has a passion for the strange and mysterious in Australia and beyond.

P.S: Tim won the court fight with Cadbury regearding the use of the term 'Yowie'. He had to organise a personal loan for all the court costs so he could continue fighting in court.

I have a lot of respect for Tim.

A fellow researcher underlined pieces from every page of Tims book that were incorrect and sent it back to him......

Tims an ok guy, but his book has to be taken with a grian of salt.

His defence was that he had 3 weeks to write it and didn't time to research properly.

Won't hold it against him.... but anyone who throws chocolate bars into the 'Big Brother' film set or off the Sydney Harbour Bridge (after first alerting the media), could be taken as a someone crying out for attention.

seems a pity that "Tim the yowie man irwin" Doesnt get along with the good people at cadbury.I think he would make a much better spokesman for there yowie line of childrens chocolate as apposed to a serious research group or somebody who is wanting the yowie to be taken seriously. Im sure he is a very nice guy etc etc but i saw him on foxtel and just couldnt listen to him. All respect though for him being out there for the cause. Still...

I've known Tim for a lot of years now. If something crops up, we speak on the phone, email or text.

He's gone from trying to be a real researcher, to silly stunts to get publicity and now to the dopey zany Irwin personality. That's his choice. I don't care.

I know who he is and want he wants to accomplish, as he knows me and what I stand for.

Despite any differences, at the end of the day, we can talk and communicate.

I would rather stand by Tim over some raving other mad fools in this feild, simply because he's a nice enough guy - despite his antics.

Again, at the end of the day - we can talk.

I saw him on Today Tonight a few years back. I didn't think much of him at the time. But, Dean think's he's an alright mate, so.. yeah.. I have no beef with him.

No research wise Alex - he's ok. He has his own agenda. Regadless of his antics, he's ok as a person.
