iv often wonderd what it would be like to come face to face with these fellas,I heard how dean has faced these things and lived to tell the tale I remember back two years ago i read a story in america about a chap who befreinded a bigfoot he lived in a cabin by himself most of the time and over the course of 12 or more months he became close freinds with this thing he started to feed him appels out of a barrel he had up agianst his cabin wall over months the bigfoot came closer and closer till he was taking them out of his hand it was quite sad in the finish thou the rains for the season came and the bigfoot became very sick and pretty much died in his arms one day .Now i cant say if this was made up or not.It was around 20 pgs long and so well detailed so i dont know.

Anyway it would be unreal to befreind one of these things thats for sure.

It'd take awhile, thats for certain. From what I can make out yowies are more aggressive than their american counterparts. Personally, I think they're an entirely different species altogether.

Yes very true But one has to wonder is it all bluff with them or would thay realy harm you if it come down to the crunch.I myself would not like people tramping around my backyard but on the same hand i could not kill them either.If thay are more human than animal thay might think the same who knows.

I would probably sit down, to show I was not a threat, but mainly because my legs would give out and I would be frozen to the spot. I can proudly say that if I come out with people you can guarentee that I will not RUN! LOL! Physiologically incapable of it, legs go to jelly and down I'd go! Found this out through a life time of experience! LMAO!

On the running like crazy part. I think if they wanted to chase you down, they would without hesitation. Just, be respectful I guess.

If one roars at you, don't roar back & try to throw something at it. I wouldn't consider that murder by the yowie, i'd consider that suicide by whoever did it. Think of them as a big angry man. What would you do when theres a big angry man? Be as quiet & nice as possible.

Speaking of old mate at Ormeau, any new news/evidence of it?

How about fight an overwhelming sensation of about to be torn to pieces, or have the fight of your life with a feeling of sheer terror that puts your body in a catatonic state, requiring every strained effort of will to break out of, or feel a stabbing, icy chill around each of your kidneys?

The reception one gets from a Yowie may also depend on whether the creature feels a familiarity with the person, a curiosity, or a level of respect. Felling trees in a Yowie hotspot, for example, may risk bringing out the tiger in the beast.

I have had two encounters with Yowies and I must say both were life-changing experiences.

The first was at the top of the Macintyre / Ashford Gorge probably in 1973. To cut a long story short, I was asleep in an "A" tent with my then girlfriend and I heard footsteps walking around the tent. Then I saw this large fuzzy figure walk to the front of the tent and it tried to open the tent from the top. But the zip was at the bottom. I just lay there frozen in terror, because I knew this was not human. At that stage I had never even heard of Yowies or big foot.

Seriously this thing tried for an eternity (probably somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes to open the tent). I just lay there frozen. I couldn't move I couldn't shake in fear, I was that scared. As the creature became frustrated at not being able to open the tent front flap it started to grunt. I could not take the fear any longer and I yelled out at it "Hey ... what are you doing". It then just stood upright. It was big. It hen turned side on and sort of ambled rocked away to the east. What I did then is another story.

The Second time I experienced a Yowie was at Stanthorpe. This one stalked out cam fire and made the loudest guttural sound I have ever heard. It sounded like a cross between a Koala Bellow and the sound of a Mack Truck's Airbrakes. That sounded twice and then the Booming started. The Booming occurred about ever 90 seconds or so and it went all through the night. There must have been many of them as the booming occurred around 360 degrees and they were coming from about 300 odd metres from the camp.

I can tell you the last thing that was on my mind (both times) was to say hello, shake hands and offer apples.

Yeah well that’s how it happened. I must admit at the time on the first encounter I was petrified with fear. But I did eventually get up enough courage to yell at it. It could have torn me apart if it had the will to do so. It was probably just curious. It certainly did show some level of intelligence though. And yes, you are probably right that it did watch us for a period of time. It is interesting to note, that there was an animal track where it made its exit. The local community at Ashford have told me that the local Aboriginal say that “Ghost People” and the Hairy Man lives there. They (the aboriginals) also call the Yowie in that area the Boonaworng.

With the second encounter, (At Stanthorpe) I had no doubt at all that it was a Yowie. You could hear that it was a bi-ped walking around the campfire.

For everyone’s interest I have made up a compilation of the something like the sound that the second Yowie made that night. I have a software package called Home Studio and I got a recording of a Koala Bellow and I cut and edited it and made some graphic equalisation changes to bring up the lower frequencies and lower the higher frequencies. At last my Music Technologies course at uni has paid off.
