Police and emergency crews are searching for a Sydney bushwalker who was due home three days ago.

The 38-year-old Marsfield man set off for a three-day bushwalk in Kanangra Boyd National Park, near Oberon, last Friday. He was due back on Monday.

The man's wife reported him missing to police, yesterday.

The man had walked in that area before and said he would be camping at the Kanimbla Lookout.

The man is described as being of medium build, about five feet 10 inches, and was wearing a long sleeve blue shirt and khaki shorts when he was last seen.

Police found the man's car in the Kanangra Walls car park with his mobile and other personal items inside. It is not known what supplies the man is carrying with him.

"We've had inclement weather over the weekend and we don't know what sort of clothing or equipment he's got with him,'' said a NSW Police spokeswoman. "It's a significant worry.''

The State Emergency Service and police resumed the land and air search for the missing man at 7am this morning.

The search comes just days after three Sydney bushwalkers, who went missing in the same national park, were winched to safety by Police helicopters.

"It's a very remote area. It's coincidental we've had two cases there in the last week,'' said Sergeant Mark Samways from the police missing persons unit.

"People get lost in what we call the more civilised areas of the Blue Mountains.

"People have died there and not been found for a decade after and they were only 10 metres off a well-known walking track. It does happen.

"It's part and parcel with the Australian bush that it is quite scrubby. If someone gets injured and falls down and they're laying prone, it's difficult to find them.

"The main thing is walkers are encouraged to tell people where they're going, travel in groups and make sure they are prepared for it,'' he said.

It mystifies me as to how experienced walkers get into this type of trouble. Surely if he's done this before then commonsense would save you.A person with experience in that area would have warm clothes, water and the ability to light a fire...

He either went in there with the intention of not coming out, or something stranger has happened.
