Stick tapping

One particular night I had been out searching for evidence and had returned to camp prepared dinner and was sitting down having a beer at about 9.00pm there abouts.
We were sitting around the fire and I heard a noise directly in front of me probably about 30-40 metres away.
It was just asimple tap-tap, Ilistened again and it continued but this time it had moved to my left in an anti clockwise motion.
I mentioned the noise to my mate who also heard this tap-tap.
Anyway this noise continued but each time it was circling us in this same direction.
Whe the tapping went to about the 270degree mark around us I got up and rushed toward the noise, only to have it stop and never started again.
Strange but true anyone else had that experience.

Extremely common. They often do this to communicate with each other, possibly to get a lock on their own positions and/or to alert others of our presence. We have also used the same method to contact them many times.
Usually two - three taps at a time and don't over do it.
Quite often you will hear one provide two or three taps on one side and then hear a response from a different position.

Jeannie has heard tapping with a friend one time out Jimna.Funny thing is they smelt it first then heard it move into position .then tapped 2 to 3 taps about four different times. Then it just simply moved down the valley.[crashed]We chased something down the valley just to come to a wall of lantarna. It just kept on going up the other side.It was as if it had jumped the lantarna..
On other occasions we have heard what we believe is a large tree branch being smashed onto another tree or log.

Next time your out searching for these animals, try the tree tapping method yourself, I look for an iron bark tree that is dead, it seems to make the best noise.
I usually hit the tree as hard as possible a couple of times at different intervals. I have had some good success with reply hits.
Its a bit of a buzz getting a similar reply, it does work

Hi Paul,
Yes I have heard it myself many times and have used it to get a bearing on them when all quiet.

Hi Yowiie
I am a bit of an explorer to put it mildly and once I was up on the Queen Mary Falls back road and I was at the Moss Lookout. I had walked up onto the ridge of the saddle and there was a big rock covered in moss (how about that) and so I picked up a rock from the ground and struck the large boulder to try and get some of the moss from its surface so I could see what the big rock was. The rock turned out to be quartz. Now I am a bit of a fossicker and quarts hitting quartz does not make this smell. Then out of nowhere I got this incredibly strong smell of Bakelite. Very strong. Associated with that I got this really weird feeling. It was like my surrounds were being slightly altered. Along with that I felt really uneasy. In hindsight now I also got this strange sensation, like the type you get when you start to get the flu. Sort of a tired spaced out feel. It was then that I though it best if I went back down the saddle to the road and out of the forest bower that I was in.
That was one weird experience.

Definately strange story, I can't even imagine where the smell come from or what would have caused it.
Did you have afeeling of being watched.

I have seen and heard in numerous reports associated with Yowies reports of a smell of Bakelite. And that is exactly the smell I smelt that day.
And, I totally had a feeling of being watched. It was not a comfortable feeling at all.

That feeling of being watched is just eerie, in one of my locations the hair stands up on your neck 24/7 absolutely freaky. LOVE IT :

I've heard the stick banging when walking the dogs with my daughter. It's really freaky because they actually bang the sticks with some thought / pattern. Very creepy being followed, watched and then almost told (by the banging) yes we're here and watching you.

That freaky feeling really puts the wind upyou, one of my locations is the weirdest place. When I am out walking some days there are roos and birds in the area and you feel fine, the next time you go there is nothing not a bird, wallaby or roo in sight. The place feels different and the hair on the back of your neck stands on end 24/7.Like your being watched.
Are there any recent reports of sightings in your local area.

I most definitely know that feeling.
Everything is normal with birds, animal noises and bug noises - and then the forest suddenly becomes deathly quiet and your hair stands on end, goose bumps and experience an ungodly sensation that is hard to describe. I liken it to an aura field of sorts (?). Sometimes you will hear a loud crashing just prior to all this, sometimes you simply walk into it, or perhaps it walks into you.
I remember a time at Kilkivan where there was myself, Trevor, Mick Dale and Brett Green sitting at our camp site. We were chatting as normal when suddenly a crashing came through the forest that could only be described as either an elephant on two legs or a steamroller. Trees were basically being felled as it came through. It was an amazing display of power and strength.
I asked the others to stay where they were and keep talking as normal. I picked up my handycam and snuck down to the creek bed and walked along the bank 50m to where it stopped on the opposite side.
At the time I was head strong and feeling mighty bullet proof. I was determined to get the footage and I had not one ounce of fear in my bones. I knew exactly where it had stopped and there was no way out of this area without being heard due to the dry foliage.
As I stepped up onto the bank to enter the bush, it was like walking through an invisible 'wall' of........ well...... something? It was sickening and I could actually 'feel' it.
I self checked myself several times to evaluate if it was simply a mental issue on my behalf, but I was still fine, fearless and head strong and just wanted to get in there. It was my body that was the problem, it began shutting down. There was not one single bug, bird or animal sound around me, yet only minutes before the forest was teaming with noise. The goose bumps came, my hair was on end, I began shaking etc yet I still had the will power to continue on because I was so determined not to let this win and I was desperate for the footage. I wanted this one badly.
Each step I took, I became weaker. I began to feel nauseous, yet I still put one foot in front of the other and pushed on. I now became sick in the stomach and felt like vomiting. Yet another step and another and I became weaker and fell to my knees. I couldn't move and my head was spinnng. I could feel that it was right there, yet I couldn't see it. I was basically right on top of it, but it was nowhere to be seen. Now I was at the stage I was lying on my side and I couldn't move.
A few minutes passed, then suddenly I began to feel better. Then slowly, all the bugs and birds began their normal sounds and this 'field' suddenly vanished like turning off a light switch.
There was no way out of this area without me knowing about it - yet it wasn't there any longer? I picked myself back up and checked the entire area - nothing.
Physiological on my behalf? I was head strong the entire time and self evaluated myself many times during the experience, yet couldn't fault myself mentally.
I have experienced the sensations many times and this was the first time I was determined to push through it and take it on. My head was there, but my body basically shut down.
Very similar to when I was stalked and chased at Ormeau. I was totally paralysed without even seeing it and knowing what it was. After all, at first I thought it was a Human and I was going to have some fun with him - until zap, it was like being hit by a ton of bricks. Words can't describe it or do it justice. Incredible.
Many people experience exactly the same sensations. What it is? I don't know. I can only hypothesise. Humans aren't the only ones effected - its every living creature in the forest. They all shut down until it's gone.
The other interesting aspect to all of this is the fact that not ALL Yowies do it ALL of the time? Just seems to be the bad ones. It's like a warning I guess. In our circles we call it "The nameless dread". If you have read Paul and Tony's latest book, it's well documented. The people who recieve it the worst are generally the ones that are about to be harrassed.
Fatfoot in the Blue Mountains never seemed to do it. The one we spent a lot of time with in Springbrook didn't do it, in fact he stood over us as we slept one night. Myself and Mike had one sit down behind us at Kilkivan only metres away and he didn't do it. I had one walk me back to base camp at Kilkivan and he didn't do it (Funny story here...... All the way back to base at night I thought I was walking with Phil. Quite a long walk and I was chatting away for the entire duration as we walked through the forest. I remember thinking that Phil was rather quiet, however I continued to talk about what action we had that night along with several other topics. As we arrived back at the hut, Phil walked off into the trees. I thought to myself it was just the 'call of nature'. When I entered the hut - there was Phil and the entire team!). Many stories....... However back to my point, they don't all seem to do it as bad as others.
They probably all have the ability to do it, but it depends on the circumstances.

I really can't say I have any experiences like that particular one , but yes the bush does seem to shut down whenever these animals are in the area.
