I found it particularly interesting as it includes sound clips of many of Rusty's recordings that regardless of the current "weight calculation" announcement are compelling. Excellent interview, Rusty!

Dustin's questions were intelligent, and you managed to convey, I think, the difficulties you faced in actually even getting any recordings at all given the technical challenges you faced. It's also difficult to explain the Australian wilderness to anyone who's unfamiliar with it but you did a good job of that also.

It was good to hear you explain, in a conversation, how you felt about the friendship you formed with these creatures. I got the impression the interviewer was both impressed by and disapproving of some of your methods (with regard to leaving food). I think the audio you've collected, and the fact that some of it cannot be identified as any known animal even by experts, is a massively valuable contribution to this whole field of study, though.

When the presence of these creatures becomes common knowledge and is accepted by the mainstream, your work is going to be a valuable resource for all sorts of different researchers.

Dustin is a very cool guy who knew what he was talking about and knew how to conduct an interview . He's also a very nice fella , down to earth , good values .

My little channel was overwhelmed by the response to that interview , not real keen on doing interviews anymore . I'd rather fly under the radar .......

Finally found a spare hour to sit down and absorb Rusty's excellent interview. Found it most enlightening and would highly recommend others do the same.

Apart from the feeding, one of the many fascinating bits was the mention of an encounter with a 13 metre (42 foot) snake! Wow!! Would have to be a giant python? The things Rusty finds in the bush...

Are you sure he says metres and not feet?
13 foot is bigger than any python I have seen in the bush, and I have seen/relocated a lot in my life (especially ones full of one of my family's chooks) let alone 13 metres.

Perhaps Rusty could chime in?

The picture below is the exact place I saw it (give or take 10 metres) when I was 18 or so . The red line indicates the snake and yes it was a python .

As you can see in the picture , the tail was in the gutter and the head was over the other side of the bank and I couldn't even see the head .

Just up the road at our farm I saw a very large goanna . We went swimming in the river , I was 12 or so , we would normally walk to the river but it was very hot and mum said lets drive . On our way back from the river we came up and onto the river flats and was confronted with a very large goanna that was noticably longer than the car . Mum had a mzda 808 . We just siad to ourselves , wow they get big out here and just kept going . No joke !

Qld scrub pythons are reported to grow up to 8.5 m in length and are regularly reported at around 5 or 5.5 m. Theres carpet pythons around here (bris)that are reported up to 15 ft and larger. Theyre only supposed to he 13 ft. I have seen one resting in a tree much larger than that. I think the snake sizes in this country have been underestimated or more species than we know of.

Far away from civilization or wilderness areas like Rusty goes to, they could be much bigger or even another unknown or rare species.

Wolf, I was worried for a moment that my ears are only painted on...

Serpents have been a problem for humanity since the days of Adam and Eve. The internet is awash with fake photos and videos of giant snakes that rival or exceed the monster in the movie 'Anaconda'.
About the only one that seems real is the 33 foot anaconda found and caught by workers in a cave on a dam construction site in Brazil a couple of years back. Think that story even made the nightly news.
I recall once watching a Nat. Geo. program a few years ago where they searched the globe for a snake measuring over 30 feet. They came up short as they couldn't find one.
So Rusty, your python sighting must have been of a truly humungous reptile! If only we had dashcams back in those days.

I never measured it but have a reasonably good idea of these types of distances because I've been working in the building industry for 35 years and work with those distances on a regular basis .

Yowie Bait is right , things are wild down here and the scientific community have a preconceived notion that they have a good handle on what's what but obviously they do not as we all know .

A mate once said that a friend of his once saw two goannas fighting over a dead cow which they were using in a tug of war . It's no surprise to me that people go missing in australian forests because of the native fauna .

In the book "Footsteps on the Loddon Plains", which talks about the first white man station where the town Boort, Victoria is now situated, they mention a large rocky outcrop that the Aboriginies were scared to go to because of a giant snake there. One Aboriginal bloke saw a picture of a roaring tiger on the homestead's hallway wall and thought it was the snake he'd seen there.

The Rainbow serpent has its mythical origins in reality somewhere/sometime.

Many regions had areas the locals did not go because it was where the giant snakes, or even the rainbow serpent itself, lived.

Archaeologically, we know there were also giant goannas roaming the bush when the Origines arrived. According to reports from early settlers there were still some of these giants wandering around as recently as 100 years ago and understandably were shot on sight.
