Yowie call (?) recorded at Strickland State Forest

Hi all,

I recently went on a trip to Strickland State Forest with the intention to walk the trails and seek out any evidence of Yowies in the area. I had spoken to witnesses and am (still) quite confident that Yowies do seem to frequent the area.

THe video of the trip is below, spoiler alert - i didnt find any real evidence (which honestly surprised me), however while walking back to the car i heard a very distinct call off in the distance. I could only describe it as the a-typical yowie/bigfoot style call. In the video, the actions starts at about 18 minutes.

Have a listen and see what you think - do you guys agree that this could be a Yowie call? It wasnt human, mechanical or any other animal ive ever heard. Its certainly unusual thats for sure.

I watched your video a day or so ago and I can clearly hear what you heard, although I am guessing being there would have been much better.

At first I thought it just a plane going over but after continued listening it certainly wasnt that, to me it sounds like a series of calls.....its only anyone's guess as to who or what made them. It does sound rather powerful and would need a big lung capacity to draw those calls out.

Funny about the wheel borrow, what track were you on if you dont mind me asking when you heard the calls, I was there earlier in the year and found a couple of prints one of which I took a photo of, the other I didnt, makes you wonder who walks around in barefoot though?

Haven't viewed the video yet so can't comment on that, but I led a mid-week walk in Strickland SF in mid-September, partly in response to the AYR video report #162 of 30th June. Did most of the tracks from the Banksia Carpark / Picnic Area but not the Strickland Falls track (the heat got to us).

Had a lookout for any hairy-men signs of course but heard or saw nothing. Remember that dogs under control are allowed in NSW State Forests, and there are plenty of dog-walkers present even during the week, so any animal noises may possibly emanate from them, but I guess feral dogs could be there also.

hey mate - i believe it was the Stoney Creek Track. Ill be returning to walk the extended Aboretum Track soon though. And you found prints there?! Very cool mate, where they well-defined? Did you cast any of them? Thats quite a find man

hey mate - no i dont at all think this was wild dogs. Ive researched wild dogs calls rather heavily as it would be a simple mistake to make and in no way was this wild dogs. Their howls are very different from this based on what ive heard.

gday Greg (love the name btw - im a wrestling fan since i was a kid lol) Yeh i havent done the Banksia Picninc walks yet - this was actually my first visit to the area. gorgeous spot though huh. as for the dogs... i very honestly doubt it. Im quite familiar with wild dog calls and this wasnt even close. The lung capacity to have such a bellowing and lengthy call was well beyond what dogs can do, and to be honest, it really didnt sound like a dog. hopefully i can investigate again and get more luck

Thanks, yeah one of the prints was well defined (the one I didnt photograph) it was in the mud.... right in the middle of the track. Anyway I didnt cast them as it is a busy area and you cant rule out human, however still has me wondering who walks in the mud barefoot its not like there is a beach around? Plus casting them on a walking track I would have had at least 20 people walk past while waiting for the plaster to dry, every single person would have asked me what on earth I was doing, can you imagine the looks from people.

Not sure if this helps but you ever doubt whether or its an aircraft overhead there's a playback feature on the Flightradar app you can set for a specific time to check whether or not there were any aircraft within the vicinity.

Australian Yowie vocalising seems nowhere near as sophisticated or intricate as their cousins Bigfoot.
If you listen to Bigfoot vocals in this video that Thumper presented https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRHSUIY ... e=emb_logo they are a revelation. I don't think Yowies can match them.
Personally, I think Bigfoot is the more intelligent of the two.

I've heard similar noises while researching in the Blue Mountains. It ended up being just trains, the bush seems to change the sound as it travels through. There are plenty of diesel trains pulling containers on that line, so my bet is it was a train.
