Sighting at Oxley turnoff??
Sighting at Oxley turnoff??
Hey guys..I was on my way to baseball today...we were playing at Toowomba...we were on I think the MotorWay, then about 100-200 metres ahead a dark shape ran across the road, stood maybe 7ft, I couldnt tell from that distance...dark (or it might have been the shadow)...it took maybe 3 steps and it was on the other side of the road...by the time we got there it was gone...the surroundings were bushland, and the occasional cropfield...it happened a few km before the Oxley exit, (a few kms before the 2nd Toll Bridge of that road...
I was just wondering if there have been any sightings in the area?

Closest current report is Camira in the mid 90's. During the 80's there were many reports stretching along that entire bush land corridor which included sightings of 'family' groups, however today there are next to non due to the vast developement of the area.

Ok..ill go into detail...
I was on my way to Toowomba traveling along the Motorway (or something like that) and we drove over a small hill in the road and about 100-200 metres ahead of us a big black shape ran out onto the road in front of us...
description: big, maybe 7-8ft, hard to tell from a distance...dark fur/skin (may have been shadow from the sun), arms hung to its knees, it was very skinny and not built at all...it looked powerful but only because of how tall it was...
the motorway is two lanes wide, then a median strip, then another two lanes going the oppostie way...the 'thing' took ABOUT 3 steps to reach the median strip coming from the left side of the road from the bushland...it may have been waiting until no cars were coming until it moved across the road..but because we came over a hill it wouldnt have seen us until it was too late...by the time we got to the place where it had crossed, there was no sign of it...maybe it stopped and hid in the Median strip and waited until the cars on the other side passed before continuing, I didnt see it again...
It was about 11:00am, bushland on both sides of the motorway with the occasional crop area...there were a few construction and development areas along the way but they were pretty far from where I saw this 'thing'...it was a few kms before the Oxley turnoff and a few kms before the second Toll Gate on that motorway..if you have any questions then let me know....

I won't beat around the bush, for someone new who is just getting into yowie stuff to see a Yowie crossing a road during the day in a surrounding brisbane area ... is very unlikely.
I still haven't seen a Yowie and I've been researching on and off for like 7 years.
I'm not saying it didn't happen, and I'm not calling you a lier.
Your very lucky to have seen one.

If its of any help, ages ago (maybe 5yrs ago) I was parked very late at night at the back of Archerfield Airport and I heard some very strange howls / screams ... this was bad enough to freak me and my lady friend
out that much we decided to leave the area.
I won't say it was a big hairy fella .... but I won't say it wasn't

OK Great one
You say you were about 200m away from the animal.
Try this...........
Pick an object around 5 - 10 feet high that you reckon is about 200m away. Estimate its height.
Then go up to it and measure its exact height.
Tell us how it works out.
Most people find it difficult to estimate heights at a distance and I would be interested to see how your calculations work out.
When you have done that you should go back to the location of your sighting and measure the distance from your point of observation to the location of the animal.
Keep us posted!

Yowies in Oxley? There goes the neighbourhood.
'Great one' did you say 'Hey Mum did you see that?'
Did you talk about it straight away or think about it for a while?
Are you going to go back and apply Pleisiosaur's Law and see what you come up with? It's a good test and you can practise it until you get profficient at judging height... which would come in handy.
As for being questioned, it's warranted. Your posts read like someone who has seen something... I believe you saw something, but what you're really fishing for is confirmation that what you saw is a Yowie.
And that's a big call, because none of us saw it... Only you can name what you saw... You said 'thing' despite your clear description.
If indeed it was a Yowie, then you are as Tommi said very lucky plus you don't have to go far.
And please, leave some money out on the road for him, poor blighter's obviously avoiding the toll
Cheers Buck

So what your saying is that everyone who has seen the yowie is not to be taken seriosly...thats how it sounds..youre implying that if you dont know a person well then you shudnt take it seriously...so all those reports etc..(and there are thousands of them) your saying you know every one of those people? I dont think so...Im just trying to let you know what is happening in that area...and if your not going to take it seriosly then It doesnt matter to me...
im talking about the fact that im her EVERY DAY! whereas some of these other people arent...
maybe your just jealous that in all your years you never saw one...i dont know...but people come here to tell of their experiances, and not get abused and called a liar for it...
o and by the way..I never said it was a YOWIE....I just gave you a description and waited for people to make up their own minds about what it was...

Im not going back there unless I HAVE too...chances are im never going to see 'it' again...and plus its a very long drive out there...my mum wouldnt be too impressed with me if I told her to drive out there again to look for a man 'thing'...lol...
nah she was talking to me in the car when I saw it...she didnt see it, and I didnt bother telling her because I know she would have thought it was stupid...

Ok, from what you told me it was about 100/150m away from the car, you were coming over a hill. It could have been anything. I'm not saying it wasn't a yowie, but at the same time, i'm not saying it was.
Try out that thing that Plesiosaurus suggested. Get a good feeling for the heights of things. I've tryed it out once or twice since he posted that.. you'd be suprised at the size/distance related factor.
Did anyone else come forward with the sighting? Did the bushes where it crossed into look like they'd been walked into, or moved aside. When you drive past, did you notice a smell or anything?
Oh, a rule of thumb. Think before you post, it saves several posts from you in the same thread one after the other.
...yes yes, i've learnt from my many previous mistakes.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here.

Great One
Know the Area in Question very well.
Did yu notice that on the left thier was Power Lines running along side the Motorway For several k,s.
Have been in the area just before xmas,
Certain places we DID feel uneasy .
Also Have been in the Camira area same time as above But were trail bike riding and go carting not looking for our ''Hairy Friend''.
Next time will keep a sharp eye open .Have aFriend in camira backing on to the Power Lines Which go all the way to Browns plans[couple of road x,s]
Also Some of us have Jobs And Businesses to run,PLUS would Prefer to be in the bush day or night than sit in front of this bloody computer
Cheers

Great One, if you believe what you saw was a yowie, noone elses opinion really matters. Just prove them wrong. Get out and do the leg work...even if you have to wait until your old enough to drive. Write it up for your own benefit, because no matter how good you think your memory is you DO forget little things.
As th postings, quality will always beat quantity. (Note to myself!

Seriously now, Great One, listen to these guys. They've been doing this kind of stuff for alot longer than some of us.
Yeah, I look up to you guys, but don't tell anyone, I have a reputation to keep up, don't i?

one question...why am I the one being told off when there are a few of you who wont even take me the slightest bit seriously?
I came to this board and posted wondering if you guys could help me identify or give ideas of what I saw...but instead I get people calling me a liar and not taking me seriosly at all...

i know what you mean great one...what you have to do is be the onw who actually discovbers the yowie...they would all die of envy...seeing as we're are so inexperienced...although inexperience doesnt equal stupid...and i dont see why the fact someone has searched for seven years and not seen one makes it any less likely you did...maybe they dont know as much as they think...and they're jealous you have seen one so feel the need to discredit what you afre telling us all...i think you should type up a full report and have dean post it on the website...its no more unlikely then any other report on this website...well done to you great one and i hope to one day be as lucky as you and see what i truely believe to be a yowie...however i think ill only tell certain people on this website as i havent been researching for azs long as some...but hey seven years is a lot less then some also...doesnt mean anything that is seen is too lucky to be true

Honestly Great One, you've got to expect to be questioned, we've all gone through it.
If you think the people here were hard on you, go across to Bigfoot forums and put your sighting up.
I believe you saw something, I don't know the area so I can't say what.
The fact that you're relatively new has nothing to do with it.
I just find it hard to imagine a yowie crossing a semi main road in broad daylight.
Though of course stranger things do happen.

Whether you research or not doesn't make you a candidate for seeing a Yowie.
Hundreds of sightings are recorded by people who have seen one but their interest stops at that. They may never see one again and not care one jot.
Whether you're inexperienced or not makes little difference. The odds are better the longer you do it I suppose...
It's the people on this forum and others like it that really care whether they see one. As for jealous...
I personally would love to see a Yowie and prove nothing, the sighting alone would be enough...
Hell, I'd get excited if I found a bunch of Blair Witch stick markers they leave behind.
I'd be catatonic if I found a foot print... And if I did see one...
It would take a long time for it to sink in... that I'd soiled myself.
However, I'm sure there are ways of going about it that give more credit to the report.
If you want to prove something to others... be objective try and dis-prove it to yourself first.
Wilderness Koala guy running to the loo? No.
Hairy basketballer with a morbid fear of traffic. No
Little known Irish wolfhound trained by circus to run on it's hind legs that escaped in 59. No... not really.
Hallucenogenic effects from day school tuckshop... Not this time.
If you can't disprove it then the answer be something else. I know that this post is ridiculous but this thread could lighten up a little.
Cheers Buck
