Dean Vs Yowie

Unread post by Dean Harrison »

Yowie 1 - Dean Nil.

Hi guys. Currently out on operations here in Qld with the crew. I can't put up a report just yet, as we are on our way to location 2. Myself and Lasso are having a recoup right now for one night away from the bush then back on with business!

Some of you would have received pics from my phone of the injuries.

I was ran at and pushed back some way and landed on my back. There was a fight to try and keep this thing off me, however, the crew got to me just in time. Thanks for that guys... Thanks to Joe, Mikka and YL1 for their swift reponse. Seeker remained at Base.

Many, many new and interesting things to analyse now. I believe now WHY I was attacked like that. It took a lot of thinking, however the answer is simplicity with in itself. It was not so much me, but where I was. It was striding down to Base for a look-see like he had no issues of making himself unknown, saw me and ran at me. I had no time to do anything - it was just so fast from 40m. On top of me in a flash. Landed flat on my back on granite. Ouch!

Ms Laura Croft (aka a certain Ms "Lasso"), was sound asleep in La-La Land during the ENTIRE situation! Joe told someone to wake her up to help pursue - but didn't..........

Mikka helped me to my feet, dusted me off and lead me back up the hill to the track (Dean still seeing stars), and we gave it a little back.

It's eyes glowed WHITE! But not when it attacked - only while chasing it. They glowed like flash lights in the dark. Interesting.........

More to come.......... Rumour has it that YL1 has audio of the event........? I have not heard it yet.

Only a matter of time - I guess I was due for it. No biggie, just bruised and have not slept in 3 days.

DMH

I cant get back to posts just yet, as zero sleep in 4 days now and miles of hiking has wrecked me. Although I'm at a resort, still can't sleep.

Dean, Like just about everyone else on the AYR forum, I've a dozen questions going around in my head, but I'll wait for your report. Glad to hear you weren't too badly hurt. Thank God for the backup team you had in place.

I for one cannot wait to hear about this when you are rested and ready.

Hi Dean
Most of us would be wrapped just to see a yowie, and you have to go and wrassle one.
Can't wait to read your report on this one. Glad you survived the encounter with no real harm done.

Hi All
Just was wondering about the eyes glowing white when the yowie charged.Did you have a torch on him? Many animals with excellent night vision also produce a lot of eye shine when a light source is put on them. I have often heard that the yowie produces eye shine even when it is pitch black without any light source to reflect off its eyes. If this is so then the yowie is unique in this respect, no other animal of this world produces eye shine with out a light source reflecting off its eyes. Or have the reports of eye sine without the presence of external light sources been exagerated or miss- reported( there was an external source of light but it was not obviouse to the witness)

Yes I was sound asleep ;( shame on me) with only 3 hours sleep the night before and 3 other very late nights. The time it hit 1.00am I could not keep my eyes open, so I crashed.

I was woken by Joe who told me what had just happen to Dean. Still half asleep as I listen to the story with relief that Dean was ok. Normal I would have been by his side, a little disappointed with myself that I was not.
If anything would have happen to him........I am sooooooo thankful for the prompt action of some of the crew. I was told that they were there in seconds.

There is no stopping Dean, as I had to almost tie him to a tree to stop him from going back out there alone with fear of what might happen. Dean being Dean wanted some more action.

You all must be looking forward to the report. We are off to the next location shortly. We will be back on the 10th January so we will fill you in as soon as we can.

No there was no torch light at all, Dean did not get the chance to turn it on.......he will fill you in with his report.

I have read and reread this post and I just can't get my head around this.......story.\

Are you saying you were sitting around camp and this animal just rushed at you from 40 metres away.

Normally a Yowie would hitail it out of the area and not show itself as you said this one has, the natural thing for them to do is hide and stay hidden. Not parade around as you said this one did.

If this was the case, as in the.....story, I can only imagine that you have collected hair and possibly hair folicles from this animal, with the odd chance of some blood or something similar, by the sounds of it there were afew of you wresting with the animal so surely one of you wuld have collected something.
What really made me laugh was the comparison to the eyes being like flashlights, that sounds alot like a post about my eye shine pictures.

I would imagine that you would have some evidence to substantiate this claim.

Just checking back on the posts in this thread.

Mikka stated
"Very interesting trip to say the least" now if it was me that had helped wrestle a Yowie from a mate the comment would be more like

" holy #### did you see the size of that mother f#####, man that was brilliant.

Stories like that really make it awkward for genuine reseaches who actually tell the facts as they are, no fabrication

I can't imagine that you and most of the members aren't going to like this post, but I see it as it is and it sounds like BS.
Maybe its a promo fro the forum.

Yeti/Paul,

At this time, we've very little to go on apart from Dean's original post.

I for one believe if Dean and the team were on board the forum that they might like AYR readers to hold off on speculation until they are able to present their report to the forum members.

Having a shot at second-guessing people's intentions when the people involved have indicated they haven't given the full story yet, seems a bit premature, and I know I'd prefer it if people reading this thread waited until hearing the report and learning of any other evidence that has resulted from this particular interaction before making assumptions.

If this incident arose in the area I suspect it did, then what I have read about the past behaviour of the creature/s involved would seem to indicate it is not as intimidated by human visitors to its' territory as other cryptids that people have seen/heard in other areas.

For the sake of keeping things civil on the forum, I'd like to respectfully ask folks to wait until Dean and the team have tendered their report. For all we know, there could be a pretty big outcome as a result of this. And then there may not. Until we've given the team a fair chance to present their information, we'll have to wait.

Waiting for another week is gonna kill me though! Dean's experience does sound both fantastic and frightening.

And I didn't find Mikka's response to be anything but proper under the circumstances - I'm sure the team involved have had some pretty serious discussions about how and when the information gleaned from this incident should best be disseminated to the readers on this forum. He was understated, but I still got an air of excitement from his brief but very interesting response.

So, let's hold off on the tarring and feathering for a bit, eh please? And if you decide to have a go at me for counselling patience, please do, but I won't enter into a 'difference of opinion' with you on this forum, as it is neither desired or appropriate.

Regards,
Shazz

Whats got me puzzled is if this is a legitimate claim why post something at 3.00am in the morning with nothing to follow apart from lasso posting a few bits and pieces.
What report do they need to do, the facts are there. Why wait another week, as Lasso said they getting ready to head to the next spot. Why would you leave an area like this if you've had an encounter like the one they are....... supposed...... to have had. Previous engagement to meet other AYR members at a different Qld site? Having been scared shiatless by the event? Who knows?

Just guessin' though.

Paul,

My comment was from only a few hours sleep and not really thinkin straight, also at no stage did I see it on Dean or "Wrestle" it either. As for the rest you know what they say about when you asume things let alone when you dont have the full story.

It might be a good idea for everyone to wait until Dean gets back home and does a full write up before commenting

...hmmmmm... I wasn't going to actually make a comment on this until the report came out... but when I read this (detective) ...

...I took the highlighted text to mean that Dean was using self defence to keep the yowie (taz) off of himself... I didn't read any more into it than just that... whether that is what he means or not I have no idea  ... just like the rest of us... we'll just have to wait for Dean's report I suppose (cries) ...

...the way I see things is this... either...

(A)... the event actually happened (eek) ...

(B)... this is a study in human behaviour to see how something can get totally blown out of proportion and see how hysteria takes over based on supposition with the little information that has been supplied (kill) ...

(C)... Dean ate some lovely mushrooms growing out in the wild that had some magical effects on him (ninja) (woot) (eek) (happy) (claps hands) ...

(D)... Dean was bored schittless and decided to have a laugh at our expense (poke tongues) (happy) (lol) ...

(E)... the event actually happened... and we will all just have to wait for the report and make up our own minds as to whether it really happened or not (detective) (detective) (detective) ...

(F)... I'm a total nuff nuff and should've said nothing because I'm talking total schitt!!! (steamer) (curse) (c**p) (cheers) ...

...hmmmmm (part two)... I can't stop looking at (F) (oops) (stupid) (off topic) (ban) ... maybe I've seen some thing there that worries me (eek) (eek) (eek) (eek) ... oh well... I've said it now... moving on... cheers... Stickyfingers. (cool) (happy) (jest)

I have just got back into the forum - password problems. I have not had time with internet to post anything. I have a sound file of the night i will forward to Dean.

Caught a very cute deer on the trail cam this morning. Will post it soon people, along with a comparison size photoshop picture if the 2 people in it agree to its posting. I have to rebuild my desktop to do multimedia stuff so i am sorry if it takes a couple of days. I have to start from scratch with a full format and right down to motherboard software.

There was some interesting experiences over the last few days to say the least.

There has certainly been some interesting comments on all this too - i will have a report to write from my experiences once the expedition report is done by Dean.
