What do you do in your spare time?

Unread post by deadpool »

I know that's a really random question - but it'll kinda.. get people on the forum to know each other just that little bit better perhaps.

Myself? Either reading, drawing, listening to music or gaming 8)

Spare time I wish.
When I am not working or taking MotoX or company photos I like to take photos for myself. I walk into the bush and try and get creek shots etc.
Yes I do hear and see strange things but it is normally so peaceful. I wish I was in the bush right now but I have MotoX photos to upload and some to get ready for the photolab.
Heres a sample of what I like photographing the most.

I use a Canon 40D ,350D and 300D and the above shot was taken with a 17-40L series lens. I use a really heavy tripod.About 5kg.
I also photograph MotoX.I do this most weekends but this weekend is MotoGP.Cant wait.

Hi Storm.

I'm a novice to photography and this will probably sound like a stupid question but are those cameras you use digital or are you a film purist?

I now only shoot digital so yes those 3 cameras are digital.
I do have oldschool cameras with slide film in them but they dont get used much any more.
Digital cameras are pretty cheap these days. I paid around $1200 for the 40D. Its the $8000 tied up in about 4 lenses that is the scary.

Thanks Cass. The 450D is a great Camera. I am close to also getting a 5D to do my landscape shots. My 40D is good but I need to get back to a full framed camera. Not interested in the latest 5D though. To many gimmicky things on it.

Wow, Stormfreak, those are really glorious photos, fantastic work! I envy your skills, as I love photography, but I tend to concentrate on animals, plants and insects, atmospheric shots etc. I have NO idea of F-stops and such (well, very little), but manage to do OK.

In my spare time I like photography, gardening, am a voracious reader of just about everything that looks interesting, driving my classic car (see pic below), and of course, cruising the 'net of an evening. I set up a car club here in Brissie for Queensland people who have Ford Compact Fairlanes, as these are rare and unique vehicles, getting harder to keep alive each year. I have named mine Fleur Fairlane, and this is her pic:

I have a seething hatred of the garbage that is on TV, and would only watch maybe two shows a week (The Collectors and any David Attenborough doco), preferring to spend my nights online. I used to breed, rear and exhibit rare breeds of poultry, pigeons and waterfowl, and I rehabilitate birds and such for release into the wild, and provide a Poultry Advisory Service for the RSPCA. I also draw, paint and sing loudly but not necessarily tunefully. What I lack in talent I make up for in enthusiasm.

That's more than enough, I think!

Kind regards,
Shazz

/I am so jealous of all the musical types on this forum - I can't even read music :( but God gave me talents in other areas, so I mustn't grumble.

Nice pics Stormfreak, great talent to have if you ever encounter the hairy one.
I'm with you Shazzoir I just can't bring myself to sit in front of that box and watch the c**p they pass off as entertainment. I am also a totally talentless musician, tried for years to play the guitar, gave up eventually in disgust.
Where does my spare time go? Well a fair bit of it is spent browsing through sites like this, I just love reading about UFOs, Cryptoids, and other strange off beat stuff.
I spent 6 hours today studying for my Operating Authority, which I sit for next month.
Yesterday I spent 5 hours fixing up a mates computer.
I spent the weekend fishing for bass on the Paterson river. The weekend before I spent Kayaking at Lostock Dam, then Brisbane waters, Lake Macquarie and Wyong Creek.
I also like to grow vegetables and occasionally imitate one.
I love the outdoors and like camping especially if it is combined with fishing or kayaking. I would love to go yowie hunting but at the present I don't know anybody who is interested, nor do I know of any near by hot spots. I did a bitof yowie hunting up at Hazelbrook, but the spots we tried to camp in were frequented by locals who took exception to us being there. The locals turned out to be more dangerouse than the yowies. I would like to go somewhere that was on private property or crown land. Some where like the junction of the Coxes River and Kowmung would be great, don't know how to get in there though.

Hey TWMcC, that was a pretty good roundup! What does an Operating Authority allow you to do, if you don't mind me asking? I'm guessing heavy machinery? Trucks? Cranes?

Your vegetable comment had me laughing, what a line! Yeah, I too like gardening, but at the moment, it's growing faster than I can manage. I haven't been fishing for yonks, but I just learned that as of the 1st July up here in Qld, our traditional cotton mesh 'dilly' crabpots are going to be outlawed, so now all crabs must only be caught using a crate 'crab pot'. What a royal pain. It's hard enough stopping thieves from nicking your pots as it is, but when dillies are cheap, you can deal with it. I'm tired of having to fish within vision range of my pots to ensure they don't get knocked off. Last time I went out on Moreton Bay with a mate, we put out eight pots - four new shiny ones, and four old clunkers. Vroomed off to Green Island to pull up a few grassy Sweetlip, and when we got back to our pots, the four new ones were all missing. And to really cap things off, they'd raided our pots, and didn't even bother to close the doors again. I really spat chips I can tell you. And people wonder why the pro-crabbers carry shotguns.

I hope your bass fishing resulted in a few nice ones, I've not caught one myself, being a proponent of saltwater fishing by preference. Still, as they say, a bad day's fishing is better than a good day's work!

Kind regards,
Shazz

Nice car Shazza. (thumb up) (claps hands) (claps) I really like your car. (although I am blue oval biased)
I was looking around for a compact but couldn't find one, so I looked around for an XA. (detective) I think I like the look of the sedan more so than the coupe. :? Never found one.
After that I tried finding a 50's truck, but in the end I ended up with a 63 XL wagon. (rad)
It doesn't look any different from when I got it, except for maybe a little more surface rust.. :( (uh uh) No time (or money), to change that at the moment but at least I can say that its mine and I love it!!!! (woot) (woot)
I think that I would like to see more photos of your car and of those in your club. (cheesy) (respekt)
......I would put a pic of my wagon up, but I couldn't handle every ford lovers abuse! (guns pose) ..... even my own! (sneaky) (poke tongues) (lol) Trev

in my spare time hm thats a hard one , i watch dvds intresting things like documentaries but my time is mostly consumed at scouering the net for more electronic circuits and information to improve my circuits for monitoring ufo activity and other things out there , i allso spend time designing my own circuit boxes from recycling pvc water pipes . and im allways colecting knowledge to further improve my ideas and things i biuld that can be used for ufo and maybe yowie related reserching , thats just a short list . but the bulk of my spare time is at my desk testing experimenting and constructing circuits for use in these feilds , and modifying them to try to push there performance to the limits as much as i can . like i have biult a circuit from the net and improved it modified it now it can pick up more than what it seems to be for

I don't get much spare time any more. When i do, i like to get away camping but that doesn't happen much anymore.
I'm a chapter man. I finish one chapter in my life and move on to the next.
work and sport pretty much make up my life now, but i still keep a few days up my sleeve for a planned expedition.
