IT SEEMED LIKE AN INTERESTING CASE-UNTIL...

Unread post by Mike Williams »

I was thinking abut some interesting..sometimes funny mistakes that have happened over the years..that we have found whilst chasing different cryptids...
I hope others have similar tales as well..!!

A few years ago..we received an phone from out of state..guy claimed to have seen and photographed a yowie over his backfence in scrubland..
I was itching to go but the bank balance..was at its usual low.
Two of Deans contacts went along and arrived at the photographers house..
The photographer started scrolling through his phone..looking for the photo.
They researchers insisted that he had told them a make and model of a digital camera...
He went...
"oh..thats right".
Then he scrolled through the photos on the camera..and stopped on a photo with a flash illumination of a fence with bushes behind it..
They pointed out there was no yowie in the photo..
The witness went "I could have sworn there was.."
To try and get an idea of where the no yowie photo was taken...the group went outside...at some stage a koala up a tree screamed..the witness freaked out and said words to the effect of
"run..the yowie is back".
They pointed out the koala..
He appeared to have originally heard the koala scream...seen its head up a tree peering through bushes at him..at around 6-7ft(2metres)..and thought it was that tall.

Up in Barrington tops a few years ago...one of the areas was supposedly a hot spot..I was told second hand stories of people being followed in daylight and that they heard monster like roars directed at them...of people being paced..whilst they walked along tracks ...by something very large,...
At about 11pm..whilst walking the tracks with 2 people...something large...that sounded bipedal..started walking pace for pace with us...along a track...
Stepped into the bush..with the camera light now on and video rolling..towards the large beast...then hear a snort...which I recognised...and then stepped through some scrub to see a sad/skinny looking horse...which then moved away from us..it must have associated humans with food..and the ridges with humans...

MT kembla used to have some very odd reports associated with it..probably still has..
We had interviewed a few very good witnesses...spoken to a resident who laughed at yowie queries..but then said there was thylacines up there..huh..
Heard these big thumps..sounded like walking...loads of crashing through dead timber...then the strangest "cough" sounds...more smashing of timber..I said to Sean..
"that canot be a wallaby making those crashing sounds and coughing"...stepped through the scrub..and watched a fat arse wallaby smash his was through timber and leave..

I would love to hear anyone else stories along the same lines whilst hunting yowies..then I will do start another topic about mystery cat hunting moments of the same caliber......(thumb)

Love it

I have always believed and act that if you find something odd always..always assume the obvious, roo, wombat, dingo etc, a process of elimination will always stand you in good stead, when out in the bush checking out sites or a report, i always assume the obvious.
A recent event up here was a chap whos dog was decapitated, no signs of a fight, property is near aswamp and near historically yowie spots..BUT there has been no other evidence..so it is exactly that , a dead decapitated dog with no other real evidence, until something else pops up.

cheers

The cropster had a great one..
Yowie sighting..it steps out in front of a guy with a motordrive camera round his neck..in a popular national park.
He is so amazed that he doesnt take one photo..the yowie steps back into the forest..the witness goes up to a footbridge above the sighting area and finds two young guys up there looking down..he relates what just happened...they say "yes we watched that..and we also took a photo."
Witness looks at a photo of himself with the "yowie" in front of him...amazingly...he forgets to ask for contact details from the young guys...cropper tried using some details the guys gave the witness...the witness decribes the yowie as looking similiar to a Chewbacca from star wars..
Cropper sends the witness a photo of a Chewbacca..
Shazamm..it matches exactly...guy in suit..under foot bridge...mates above...the photo..
Oh well.. :(

I was partly fooled by a roo on one occasion in the early days of my yowie inquiries. Make that twice as I'm sure I was with you (Mike) and Sean with the fat arse wallaby haphazardly crashing around. Woopee. Yowie hotspots on each occassion, the middle of the night on each occassion, and we didn't have nightvision equipment nor thermal. (The price of being under paid and over worked.)

It seemed like an interesting case of a dead and gutted wombat found in a big cat hotspot, with two neat little round puncture wounds to it's head and a number of broken teeth. I was told a big cat had crushed the poor creature's skull with it's powerful jaws, it's fangs/incisors leaving the two puncture wounds. Myself and two others kindly insisted we all await x-ray results from the local vet. Alas, the outcome was two firearm rounds found inside the puncture wounds.

(oops) Pardon me for stealing yer thunder Mike! In any case, I'm confident you'd have no shortage of similar cases to fill a similar thread in the big cats section!

I'm all out of similar yowie tales of woe though!
