Hey Doc, thank you! You're right, as far as I am aware, we haven't really concentrated on that side of things, i.e. sound blasting of recorded calls. I find all this very interesting, to say the least, and have saved several Sas calls from various websites over the years.
I have a question, though, and that is, if the sound blasting is that loud (as you say the BFRO do), wouldn't the Sas out there recognize it as 'man made' just by the timbre and sound quality of a call at that decibel volume? Might they just go "Sheesh, it's only those pesky people again" and clam up? Or do you think their sense of curiosity would be sufficient to encourage them to have a look-see up close (which I guess is part of the aim, beside capturing any new calls in response tothe recorded ones)?

I've heard the "Bigfoot" recording (2) audio near leura frequently, except it's more gutteral and a more distinct "woop, woop" type noise . Dogs go nuts just before it's heard too. and it sounds large.
My wife has heard similar noises to the "Bigfoot" Howls except more high pitched around 20 years ago out the back of their 50acre property near wiseman's ferry

Interesting stuff Doctorscream, I'd never listened to any of the sound files before, but after listening to a few I understand why the "woop-woop" noise commonly reported is classified as primate like, I spent some time in Malaysia years ago and I heard similar noises from the bands of small monkeys that used to raid our camp kitchen.
I think the sound broadcast is an idea that would definatly be worth a try in the field here sometime.

I agree that some of the recordings sound very similar to primates. When I was in Guatemala I went out to Tikal, which is an ancient Mayan site, and all around were these primates called Howler Monkeys and when they screamed / howled their calls it made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up and invoked a certain fear senasation, until you realised what it was.
Some of those calls reminded me of the Howler Monkeys I heard.
