Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
The only reason I ask is i've seen so many hoax videos around its not funny. Like "bigfoot stole my motorcycle" or "REAL LIFE BIGFOOT VIDEO!! I SWEAR THIS IS REAL!!!1!1!" and then you see some guy acting like a total idiot in his friends backyard.
This one has to be my favorite. It has everything a hoax needs. Including backing up from the FOX network.. until they debunked it. Ha!
Whats yours?

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Gotta be the Bigfoot under the trailer!
And my most despised hoax is the one last year when a couple of old boys in Georgia found a "body" so obviously faked that even my intelligence was grossly insulted. I think Matt Moneymaker was in on that one. I had to explain to quite a few people that it was a hoax, and a poor one at that.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Mine is Tom Biscardi..... Filth.
I had a radio interview the day of his "grand" announcement. Luckily, Mike Williams gave me the heads up pertaining to his past, prior to the talk of Biscardi's 'amazing' Bigfoot body media Circus.
If a person lies or embellishes anything publicly in regards to what we do, they clearly have no passion, legitimacy or reason to be a part of it. It totally denigrates what we are about and only serves those who wish to destroy.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
I was mistaken--it was Tom Discardi who was in on the hoaxed Bigfoot body in Georgia, not Matt Moneymaker, though I haven't heard anything good about him either, AFA I can remember.
Yeah, hoaxes suck wind, and what sticks in my craw about Discardi is that people actually believe him! Otherwise he would just vanish into obscurity.
And it's those who don't know a thing about Bigfoot that actually believe his tripe.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Great post topic..but i will spin it a little different....
So..from out of left field..I will vote for Ed ...cryptid "researcher" as my all round winner..for 2010..
.
Ed has it all in one package -bonkers mad troll , net stalker , master of sophistry.
For pretending to Be a researcher that was ethical and objective.....
The other bit where he actually thought he was going to crack the whole field open with rigorous thought and results..after reading one book ..was just delusional..
One year later..still...... nothing..
Boy..were we surprised..
So, in summary..."Honest" Ed ..is my all time favourite cryptid related hoax..

Okay.. it has to be my favourite , and cryptid related and an act intended to deceive...hoax

Hi Guys
Was the Biscardi hoaxe the one with the supposed body in the chest freezer ? because if that is then I totaly agree with you guys . I must admit on face value I was fooled it just seemnd to good to be true , and as it turned out it was .
On another semi related note I read one of Gilroys excerpts and he notes that there is an aboriginal elder on the carrai plateau west of Kempsey nsw that supposedly has a Yowie skull stored somewhere and will not reveal it to white people . Iam unsure of the validity of this one perhaps some of you might know more .

One quick glimpse at Biscardi's "corps", and it certainly didn't look like anything I have seen before. Looked very similar to a wet Muppet - which it was.

Hey Dean, at the risk of sounding like a completely ignorant American--who's "Honest Ed"? Is he from Australia? I would think you might have meant EB (Erik Beckjord), only he died in 2009. But I can't remember ever hearing about this "Ed" person.

Hi Ella
I just made that up..it has a nice ring to it..what do you think Dean..?
Thats using the modern definition of sophist..
No matter what you do..or what you say..it will keep rising up from the dead..with another 20 questions..
Then when you have had enough of being called a liar and refuse to answer more questions the"zombie sophist" will go "gotcha".
Which is just brilliant logic..It never ends..
Thats part of the zombie sophists little trick bag..it will go over anything anyone says or does..but here is the trick..it will never do anything..ever..because
1/Its $%$#@%^ lazy
2/Its "bright" enough to realise that someone will start picking them apart..
Honest Ed is from Queensland..and is what is called in the trade..a "zombie sophist"."Honest Ed"? Is he from Australia?

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Hi Ella,
Just a nobody. Turns up saying "Whats all this about?" Starts demanding things like our casts so 'he' can scrutinize them personally. Starts making unruly posts and upsetting people. Has a warning and apologizes saying that he just wants to learn. Then continues and continues until he's finally had himself banned. Then, starts spamming all the other research boards around the World criticizing just about every Australian researcher, basically calling people hoaxers and liers and making a pig of himself throwing around threats etc.... All this from the one little man who has never had any experience in this field. Obsessive little twit, similar to EB I guess, with too much time on his hands and nothing better to do. Would be far more beneficial for him if he actually did some research instead of trying to insult all those that have spent decades of research about a subject that he has only just discovered.......... Obvious mental and jealousy issues there. No point bagging people he has never met and pretending to be an expert on all the researchers he is trying taint.
Funniest quote I heard from him when asked for a basis for his assumptions "Because I told my family... and they don't believe you!"
Okaaaaaaaay.......... Fascinating. Goodbye!
No matter to us. We just get on with the job.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Sounds like EB has resurrected! You describe him to a T. EB would do the same sort of thing spamming and trolling all the boards. He got furious when anyone didn't believe our Bigfoot over here was an interdimensional, uh, alien creature associated with little gray dudes in UFOs, such as his "pronouncements" about the Patty film.
I'm sure all of yall were familiar with his tricks. I was almost the only American who was fond of that old boy, and he banned me from his board numerous times because I could take him in a heartbeat every time! He often put on his home page: "This board is still Ella-free!" I just never let him upset me.
He started fights on every board he visited and wound up getting banned from all of them except his own, as you know. But he was basically harmless and I kind of miss him. RIP, EB, up in that big research center in the sky! Maybe Honest Queensland Ed is his ghost.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
What about the Piper footage of "limpy".???
Hey Mr######..can I borrow your gorilla suit...?
Regarding the "limping yowie" footage....when friends went to the exact location they found that "limpy"..is actually heading towards the nearby main road..
My third favourite hoax was a hoaxer...talking about another supposed hoax atttempt.
Which would make it ...a known hoaxer..pretending that other hoaxers..had tried to him hoax him...
Huh..my brain hurts....Anyway..I digress..
Mr #######..by pure chance
Mr ###### "solved" it though..
Mr ###### actually said with a straight face that..."the people had borrowed a chimp from Melbourne zoo, placed it in a gorilla suit and let it loose in front of me".
Or words to that effect..I dont want to dig out the article as reading three pages of lies and garbage just gets me angry..
And the brain damaged reporter printed it as gospel.
Forget your chances of trying to get a flipping chimp out of the zoo.. into a gorilla suit that would be outsize..forcing it forward and then grabbing it and getting it out of the suit and back to the zoo..

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Mike this should possibly be a new topic but I wonder how many Yowies / Bigfoot might susstain permanent debilataing injurys thus preventing them from succesfuly securing their normal prey and as such causing their attentions to turn towards Humans as an easy target . Aboriginal lore from most areas warn their children especialy to beware , but even the most apex predators will prey on the young and injured before attempting a more significant snack . A limp like that in the wild would be a tremendous setback .

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Mike, that film is just another Blobsquatch. But it also looks suspiciously like the Patty film in form and gait, and I wonder if the hoaxer somehow put a blurred version of Patty is a different setting?
Al, I truly don't believe either Bigfoot or Yowie (which I believe is the Australian version of BF) would ever take human prey. Of course the aboriginal people would warn their children to be careful in the dark. In past generations, and possibly still, rural Americans would frighten children with stories of the "bogeyman" out in the dark to keep them from wandering off. But BF and surely Yowie, like us, are omnivorous and can eat many types of plant matter, such as berries and roots, and BF are known to raid vegetable gardens and even cornfields. A crippled foot would not keep them from catching fish either. Over here and probably in Australia, they've been seen to do a little "dumpster diving". Retired researcher Dan Jackson interrupted the dinner of one such in Florida and was scared so badly he retired from field research! (Apparently the BF was PO'ed at being disturbed and chased him off.) Another was allegedly seen doing the same in a trailer park near El Campo, Texas. And there is a city park on the outskirts of Sulphur, Oklahoma, where people go regularly late at night to watch them at the dumpsters. So unlike a few lions in Africa that become very old and arthritic, there is no need to seek out human prey for lack of ability to pursue their natural, faster animal prey. Over here, to my knowledge there has never been a case of a BF catching and eating a human. I don't think that's their nature at all.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Hi Ella
I would love to outrightly agree with your line on the Bigfoot / Yowie not targeting mankind but instead prefering berries , dumpsters ect , however there are just so many cases in the recent past in Australia at least of unexplained dissapearences of bush walkers and campers with what would seem to be a lack of follow up by the authorities into these cases .
The most recent case that comes to my mind is the Dairyville case an area which is located just west of Coffs Harbour nsw and if this was to be proven as true would place it uncoumfortably close to my own home .
The evidence of this case is totaly inconclusive and so can not be accepted as gosepel , a small family group were swimming at a secluded water hole ,when they chanced upon the lower torso of a man . After initial investigations the local police discovered the fellows camping gear at a near by location , as to what was the cause of death has not thus far been released either by authorities or media .
All that Iam trying to convey is that if not only in Australia but possibly in the Bigfoot hot spots of the USA as well it would pay to walk on the side of caution as we do not know what we are really up against out there .

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Al, I didn't know anything about what's going on in Australia AFA disappearances like that are concerned, but I do agree with you that NOBODY should go camping or hiking alone, above all not a woman! I believe all women should always have a male companion--at least one. I'm more afraid of predators of our own species than any other kind. I don't know about Austraiia, but human predators are a common occurrence in the USA, those who will murder anybody alone in the wild, and above all, women and children.
And Shazz, that photo and the outline drawings in the Chickasaw area near Sulphur, OK are fascinating! Certainly they were taken in a hot spot. I seem to remember it was on CZ.com a few years ago too. Unfortunately, the photo is so dim, blurred and distant that it can only qualify as a Blobsquatch rather than as strong evidence. But I sure wouldn't include it out!

Hi Ella
I certainly respect your thoughts on travelling alone in the wilds weather it be the US or AUST we have our own nasties here of the less fury type also , a quick question on the clarity of these trail cam images , were the posted photogs captured on high quality equipment or is that the general product of these types of devices , Iam considering an investment in some of this technology but it would be great to have some background on them before I jump in .
I realise that the sensors would have been trigered by the objective being some distance from the fixture as is represented by the fuzziness of the image , which in turn raises another question can the auto trip be set to initiate at differing distances from the camera .
One other thing that concerns me with the use of these devices is the ability of the target species to not only find but also destroy what could possibly be a piece of very expensive equipment . Some reports that I have read in AYR state that when sound equipment was used in an Blue Mountains nsw experiment the alleged Yowie found it and damaged the recording device . It is no wonder that anyone in Australia at least has not been able to secure a clear verifiable image . ?????????

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Al, I'm sorry, but I have no knowledge whatsoever of trail cams or any other photographic or video equipment. I do know that Chester Moore, here in Texas, has had some excellent results for wildlife with the use of night vision cameras, shown on his former web site. I also have heard that BF over here are reported to be really good at finding, disabling, and even trashing camera/video equipment set up to catch pictures, not to mention just plain avoiding such devices. I'm sure the Yowie can to the same.
I'll bet Dean or Mike or other field researchers here would be able to answer your question, as well as knowing the success rate of the use of such devices.
Only the Patty film, taken with some sort of video camera back in 1967, has produced a clear and (to some, including me) verifiable image here in the US, and nothing anywhere near that good since. They really are camera shy!

It was shot with a 16mm camera. Here's the fun part.Ella wrote:Only the Patty film, taken with some sort of video camera back in 1967, has produced a clear and (to some, including me) verifiable image here in the US, and nothing anywhere near that good since. They really are camera shy!
One fact which complicates discussion of the Patterson film is that Patterson says he normally filmed at 24 frames per second, but in his haste to capture the Bigfoot on film, he did not note the camera's setting. His Cine-Kodak K-100 camera had markings on its continuously variable dial of 16, 24, 32, 48, and 64 frames per second and was capable of filming at any frame speed within this range. The speed of the film is important because, as Napier writes, "if the movie was filmed at 24 frame/s then the creature's walk cannot be distinguished from a normal human walk. If it was filmed at 16 or 18 frame/s, there are a number of important respects in which it is quite unlike man's gait." Unfortunately, the film is so shaky that it is difficult to be certain which speed is correct.
Krantz argues, on the basis of an analysis by Igor Bourtsev, that since Patterson's height is known, a reasonable calculation can be made of his pace. This running pace can be synchronized with the regular bounces in the initial jumpy portions of the film that were caused by each fast step Patterson took to approach the creature. On the basis of this analysis, Krantz argues that a speed of 24 frames per second can be quickly dismissed and that "[w]e may safely rule out 16 frames per second and accept the speed of 18."
Dahinden stated that "the footage of the horses prior to the Bigfoot film looks jerky and unnatural when projected at 24 frame/s." And Dahinden experimented at the film site by having people walk rapidly over the creature's path and reported: "None of us ... could walk that distance in 40 seconds [952 frames / 24 frame/s = 39.6], ... so I eliminated 24 frame/s."
Others (including primatologist John Napier, who published before Dahinden and Krantz) have expressed a different opinion, contending it was "likely that Patterson would have used 24 frame/s" because it "is best suited to TV transmission," while conceding that "this is entirely speculative." More recently, skeptic and University of Florida anthropologist David Daegling has asserted that even at 16 frame/s the creature's odd walk could be replicated: "Supposed peculiarities of subject speed, stride length, and posture are all reproducible by a human being employing this type of locomotion [a "compliant gait"]."
..people don't tend to notice him standing there in the last frames..

Yeah, Deadpool, that's a really impressive analysis of the effect of different frame speeds on the appearance of Patty's walk! Otherwise, to be honest, I'm afraid it's all Greek to me, as I wouldn't know a frame speed from a hole in the ground. I could even be missing the whole point. But it looks good to me.

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Hhhhm. Al I grew up in Kempsey and have heard many reports but have never heard of this one. I have spent a lot of time on the Carrai Plateau and the area is mainly National Parks and State Forests. It is a very isolated area with only the odd farm around in the way of inhabitants. Whilst I think Rex has done some good work over the years I also believe some of his claims are dubious... to put it kindly. For instance, he has claimed to have found many 'skulls' or endocasts over the years but they all appear to me like weirdly shaped rocks!!! You know, I can`t help thinking that if a person genuinely believed they were in possession of a possible Yowie or ET skull than you would make the effort to get some scientific testing conducted. As far as I`m aware this has not taken place!
Ha ha ha, I like it Mike. I`ve been away for a bit so am catching up on some posts. I`ve just read the latest instalment of EDsHonest Ed is from Queensland..and is what is called in the trade..a "zombie sophist".
Best hoax. Yer unfortunately it has to be Biscardi. Although I`m still not 100% sure if Biscardi was in on it or was the victim of the hoax.. Apparently he lost 50 grand on the whole thing and was threatening to sue the dudes involved.
He was either in on it or incredibly stupid... either way it was ugly!

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Well, if these hoaxers would just expend the effort and energy on doing legitimate research instead of perpetrating their hoaxes, they might actually get somewhere in the BF/Yowie field!

Re: Whats your favorite Cryptid hoax?
Don't be ugly, honey. EB and I actually became very good Internet friends for several years before he died. I did not slam his website that I can remember, I'm not that ill-bred. He couldn't stand me because I was hard-core F&B and refused to even consider that Bigfoot had any "paranormal" abilities. Later I came to believe our BF are psychic and are not animals at all, but some kind of human species, just not our species, and are equipped to live in very wild and primitive conditions that would be impossible for any of our own species in our society to endure. Once I declared my honest change of mind to EB, caused by the experience of good and trusted friends with BF, EB and I became fast Internet friends and he never banned me from his board again. Even when he banned me from his board, we exchanged frequent e-mails in which he raised sand with me all the time, but that was fine with me. He was like a breath of fresh air and I never took him serious.
I joined AYR to learn about the Yowie, not to dictate/impose my beliefs about Bigfoot to anybody, certainly not to respected field researchers here like Dean, Deadpool, Mike, or anyone else in Australia or on AYR.
Your spurious post above was apropos of nothing I've said on this thread. (Or any thread that I recall.) I feel free to express my beliefs and opinions without being flamed. Personal attacks are completely inappropriate for a message board of this kind, though unfortunately they abound, given the anonymity of the Internet. Go figure. I think it's possible you picked me because I'm a woman and a Texan. So please kindly cut out your rude trolling at me, or I suggest you wipe it and kiss my foot, and then take a long walk off a short pier.
I shall be awaiting your reply. Have a nice day.
