MORE video footage of what looks like a large black cat in the Otways has emerged, with a Melbourne businessman revealing a home movie of an animal on his Apollo Bay farm.
Hawthorn's Peter James took the footage of the black cat from the deck of his holiday farm house on Christmas Day, 2007, but has been unable to identify whether it showed a black panther or just an over-grown feral moggie.
"I don't know what it is," Mr James said.
"People have told us tales about big cats in the Otways, but we've never seen anything or heard anything."We've never found any paw prints to suggest it was a big cat.
"We just happened to be at the farm for Christmas Day and my wife looked out and asked what was in the bottom paddock."I ran inside and grabbed the video and started filming."
Mr James said a local shearer had declared the cat an over-sized feral pest, but was unable to say just how big the animal had grown.

That defiantly does look better than the first video.

although due to the distance of the subject, the cat looks like it could be large, but im not happy with the speed of its walk. it seems to move too quick in its slow gait for a large cat, a panther walks with a slow lope. i know this may be confusing, so picture a jack russell walking next to a labrodor at the same speed, even at a slow stroll the jacks legs will move like a sewing machine to cover the same distance. thats my observation anyway.
also the panther i saw in 91 seemed obviously a bit more bulkier in the muscle department.

I have been watching this snippet over and over and trying to judge the size of the cat in comparison to the tree line / hedgerow that is in the back ground the animal appears to be approx 8mts from the vegetation , I summise the hedge to be about 4mts in height if my reckoning is anywhere near correct it would give an approx critter height of 800mm .

I am unable to give an assumption on its length as it is quite hard due to the distance that it was shot from , to dissern the diameter of any one bush as it passes through each frame but at a guess I would argue that it is at least 1mt in length.

I am probably as per usual on totaly the wrong track , does any one else have a method of more accurately guaging its size , I don't know if its a [ BIG CAT ] but it sure is a big cat ? .

Is there a way to make the footage larger to give us a good comparison to near by hedges. My eyes agree with yours AL Pitman in that the critter is about 80cm in height.

The feral cats that I have seen tend to have shorter, stocker bodies. The cat in the film appears to have
a longer, slender body, much like a panther.

Have you noticed the first stride of the feline , it is way to long to be that of an ordinary moggie as its legs appear to be much longer .

at first i thought its just a goat or lamb or something, but when it started walking, clearly its a cat of some type but i dont think even feral cats get that size!
Definately a panther.
