Thanks for sharing that Doc you certainly have me intrigued.

I have to say I like part one. Parts two and three are pretty much the same and like you say if you were to hear that in the middle of the night it would certainly wake anybody up.

The first part just sounds like bad radio distortion. (confused)

I'm using $120 DJ-quality headphones.. all I heard was a lot of distortion. That or mobile phone interference cycling up and then down leading out to static.

(tank) doesn't echo location work off a series of sounds being sent off, bouncing off surroundings, and returning back to its origin?
This is how moving objects are located right?
can single sounds being emmitted provide any information at all?
Doctorscream's recordings are interesting but i'm not sure whether they make any sense?

Hi all, newbie here to the board and to Australia. I've been site lurking for awhile and following this thread a bit with interest and have seen some interesting info ya'll have found. One minor item of interest that hasn't been addressed is ultrasound spectrum of frequencies are most often used for echo location, infrasound frequency seems to be more for communication and are typically not focused directionally. Hence the reports of elephants taking flight for no known reason, except perhaps a threat up to a couple kilometers away seen by another elephant.
Here are a couple of links some may find interesting, the site is not known for it's peer reviewed accuacy in reporting, but has related information about infrasounds that may account for the emotional responses to close proximity encounters.

As pointed out in a previous post, the low frequency pick up of certain commercial microphones is required before you can record the infrasounds to the medium of choice. It's been my experience some mics work, others have a designed cut circuit for low freq cut off to get rid of the "rumble". This is easily checked and fairly inexpensive to add a mic if there is a desire to record infrasounds. Just a random thought or two on this.
The opportunity to link the noise to video intrigues as an interesting exercise...
