Lower half of man's body found in creek. AAP
November 2, 2009, 11:55 am

Partial human remains found in a NSW creek are those of a man, thought to have been washed to the area by recent heavy rains, police say.

Three children were swimming with their father in an isolated creek on their private property at Dairyville west of Coffs Harbour about 4pm (AEDT) on Sunday when the remains were found.

"The remains are (from the) waist down of a male body," Superintendent Mark Holahan told AAP on Monday.

"Looking at the evidence we have available to us and because of the six to eight inches of rain that's fallen in the past week in that catchment area, there's a pretty good chance that the remains have washed to where they were found.

"The remains were found above the flood debris which also suggests it could have come down from one of the many tributaries linked to that creek and water system."

The remains were naked and not found with any other items, Supt Holahan said.

They are due to be forensically examined at Newcastle later on Monday, and in the meantime a crime scene has been established at the creek where officers and SES volunteers are searching for evidence.

Police divers have been called to assist the search.

"Our priority at this stage obviously is to locate the remaining part of the body," Supt Holahan said.

"If we have no luck today we will extend that search tomorrow and ask for the assistance of police rescue."

Investigators have no clues as to the identity or age of the dead man.

"It was in a state of decomposition," Supt Holahan said.

"What we are saying, without any formal forensic testing, is that it hasn't been there for months, it hasn't been exposed to the elements for months before being found."

Supt Holahan said he had not spoken to the man who discovered the remains but that he had been shocked by the find.

"I imagine it wouldn't have been pretty," he said.

Investigations into the remains will include revisiting a number of missing persons cases from the area, Supt Holahan said.
This story triggered my memory of a recent Dairysville Yowie encounter. Obviously its likely that both stories are just a coincidence but I thought some people may be interested nonetheless.

Surroundings: Bush
Hello, i would like my name to be anonymous,

Me and my brother where house sitting for a friend in late january in a town called Dairyville, which is nothing but scattered farm and houses in the bush. the tennant of the house had always told me and my brother stories of strange noises and figures in the bush and to be carefull going out at night, as he could never figure out what it was...

so me and my brother arrived around 10pm at the house and sat down to watch tv, about half an hour later the crickets and birds surrounding the house go quiet. my brother and i have a look outside to investigate, and hear very heavy footsteps trek up the hill into the thick bushland. we think nothing of it and go back inside...about half an hour later this happens again. me and my brother are sure this time that it is no harmless animals and arm ourselves with weapons in the house and turn all the lights off but leave the tv going....

this proccess kept repeating itself every hour or so late into the night...each time the foots steps are at a different point in the house and are sounding closer. we realise the the house is all windows and tat what ever is outside can see us a very long time before we can see it....

at about 3am after hearing foots steps so many times that we are shitting ourselves that much that we have decided to leave as soon as the sun rises, we hear foot steps on the verandah, me and my brother stand up for a better look and see the milk crate (something that hasnt moved for months, as we go outside and sit on it to have a smoke) skating across the verandah, and then we see a huge hairy brown figure falling down on the other side of the railings, as if we just missed it jumping over the other side...at this point all the night animals are completely dead quiet and we can only hear the crickets from hundred of metres away.

me and my brother left the house at daybreak arms with bows and knifes and havent returned since

Are there any stories of yowies actually killing anyone? I recall the story of the man who ended up in the fork of the tree... but he wasn't killed.

the ones that didnt live to tell the tale...well um.....i guess didnt live to tell the tale.
one thing we do know is that there has been thousands of human dissapearances over this countries short life span, and many of those dissapearances without ever been discovered.
i know of some in victoria that seem unbeleivable that the persons werent found, like paddy who dissapeared off a walking track at wilsons prom.
now with all the searchers and trackers looking for three days, in a relatively small area, you would expect something to be found. i do understand that some of these could be put down to foul play, but i just wonder how many are due to animal attack.
i personally, after my big cat sighting, will always carry a tool of defense on my walks, and just lately have been thinking of uping the anti, with something a bit meatier.
and to those skeptics who walk into this bush of ours with a blahsay attitude, i say just walk on the side of caution. maybe you dont believe in the yowie or big cats, fair enough, your choice. but something is ripping the heads of roos and gutting deer and it aint an angry possum. (eek)

HAHAHAHAHA lil foot, you're too funny! :p

Re-reading, that post was just asking to have the p*** taken. I guess I meant references in Aboriginal legend and stories.

I'm also interested in the stories about the headless roos, etc. It would be fascinating to actually find and investigate something like that...

I'd love to be a part of an expedition, if only I wasn't such a chicken...

By storys from Aboriginal's it was very common for Yowie's to kill the hunters of the Aboriginal tribes.

About a year ago i read a Aboriginal story/ dream time story?

It talks about the begining there was the Aboriginal's, and 2 races of Yowie's, 1 lage and 1 small. the large yowies are as tell as 7-8ft, the smaller was around 3-4ft.

Both the humans and Yowie's lived together in peace. At this time the Yowie's are root/plant eatter. But a great drought come across the land and a not of the food disappeared, and it was harded to find food each day. The story sayd the large Yowie's so hungry started picking out the smaller Yowies from the other race to eat.

The large Yowie's at so stage also hunted humans and the Aboriginal's also hunted them for food and safety. it was said that the Aboriginal's hunted them to the point of existence.

I think if the Yowie feels safe and is well feed, it should be at peace with you. Look at this way, if a Yowie wished to kill somone, we would have no luck in escaping him. Most likey bashed to death or pulled apart.

Was on the net today and was wondering whether the police ended up solving this case. It seems they have identified the body and the man was a frequent camper - bushwalker of the area. However, there is no mention whatsoever in regards to how he died???? No one has been arrested? No mention of possible suicide? Basically no conclusions???? Very puzzling!!!

bones are hard to find in natural bush. ever noticed when a dog has come to its last day they go off and die in peace.
i have never found roo, snake, bird, dog, camel bones in the wild outback or bush.

i feel we have answered your bones question before in your topic you made.

I have been out to Dairyville today besides being the most picture post card perfect area that anybody could want for , it is also very isolated and remote given it's proximity to the major centre of Coffs Harbour the mountains are very heavely forrested and rugged so only the valley floors for the most part are inhabited by humans , it is ideal country in which to exist if one were to take up a wild foray , plenty of tucker and excellent water supply provided via gin clear streams , hell if I was a Yowie that's where I would want to be .

MY FINAL DECISION IS MAYBE ..............
IF YOU DO NOT LOOK YOU WILL NOT SEE
