A question on selfdefence ....

Unread post by mikka »

Ok lets just say your listening late one night in the middle of nowhere, And all of a sudden one of our "friends" with a bad attitude desides he wants a piece of you ....

I'm totaly agains firearms, Ive head that hand held flares are meant to work as well as bright torches.

How bright would the torch have to be ?
Any other ideas ??

Cheers

I'd say just.. keep still. Back down.

But if it's hell bent on wanting a piece of you, my only advice is this.

*ahem*

Run like the ****ing wind.

Has there ever been a case of some one being seriously injured or killed by the so called Yowie in recent times?

Big bright light, keep it on him - retreat.

If it really wants you, don't bother running - your history. Nothing you can do about it.

Would the bright light make it.. wary? Or just blind it, giving you enough time to high-tail out of there?

The idea of running away doesnt really sit with me. Even though it would prob be the first thing I would do thou  is it might set off a natural preditor/prey reflex, Like alot of other animals have. And even if it didnt really want a piece of you b4 it would then. But im just making an assumption though.

Cheers for your advice guys :)

You never know how you'll react to a situation like that until your in it. You can pressume you might do something like run, but when it acctually happens to you , you just might find yourself frozen to the spot. They tell you not to run from dog and big cats ect....With a yowie I guess its all new!

i think my first reaction to a yowie that wants a piece of me(or lots of little pieces of me) would be to soil myself...after that i'd say look at it...make out every physical feature...then if u survive you will have a detailed account...and hey if he's about to rip me to pieces i aint going down with out a fight...kick em in the kegs! (yeh right i'd probably faint in a heap before i got that far)

I work in the security industry, law enforcement use a torch called a sure-fire use this link to look at it,
The warning with the torch is DO NOT SHINE INTO EYES AS CAN CAUSE PERMANENT EYE DAMAGE
Best buy you can get for a small ultra bright light :D

http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_ ... /sesent/00

they are not made to be used non stop just a burst on and off, i own one so if anyone living in melbourne wants to test one before they buy you are more than welcome as the are very costly in australia.

Sorry for the necro post, but when reading this thread I wondered if one or more of these http://www.kitbag.com.au/prod389.htm would help you to put some distance between you and any "threat"

I think David has a valid question here - anyone?
and I would like to expand the question to: ...or suspicion of such an act at any time?

There has not been one recorded death in Australia, other than Aboriginal stories that still don't mention deaths. They did battle with them, but only in defence of hunting grounds or turf.
Why do people want to enter searching for what they think is Yowie or any other beings domain, and spray them with a chemical. I don't no. If it does work are you going to save its eyes, I suggest you try it on your own first. You are in there home. You may get away but I am sure that your big mouth would have a hunting party up looking for these dangerous creatures. And a frozen one offered to the Highest Bidder. Plus the next human being to innocently enter that spot would be killed just out of mistrust.
They are incredibly shy, and do not need us as a friend. So respect them and remotely study them. Compare them to a gorilla or orang a tang incredibly docile unless threatened.
Smokey 7 that flare thing seems a good idea or just handy to have anyway.
My torch is a trustfire SST-50 it puts out a narrow 1300 Lumen beam on high and switchable down to 100 Lumen in 3 stages It has a high power strobe which I would use to deter anything approaching toward me. I would hate to damage it's vision as that is its greatest defence. (taz)
I may sound annoyed but if you don't feel comfortable with them. Don't go out of a day or night and scare yourself. You would not be here now if they were out to kill you.
Any deaths in the states can be directly associated to being shot at or injured, and I don't blame them. (pure_evil)
