Starting to freak me out!

Hi,
My partner and I have just bought 120 acres at Woolmar just outside of Kilcoy... We have been having some strange happenings since we bought it when we camp overnight. These usually happen when we are sleeping and wake us up, however they are starting to happen when we are awake also. The first was when my partner and I were asleep in our swag, I woke up to what I though was a rock thrown at our swag. I originally brushed this off thinking I must have hit my arm on the swag whilst I was asleep until friends of ours had the same experience three weeks later.
The most recent happening was when four of us were sitting around a campfire when suddenly from behind us we heard a 'farting' noise... we all blamed each-other joking around until we realised that none of us were lieing when they said 'i didnt do it' ten minutes later we had a flash of light, something like a camera flash from behind us. I understand that yowies dont use cameras, however this is starting to freak us out! Never the less we obviously made it through the night alive! however I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has had experiances like these before? Kilcoy is very well known for its yowies, so this is the first place I thought to ask.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions of what to look out for/what to do...

Yes your in a good spot their. I think a couple of members are near you.
Al Pitman further North Woolooga and Alex ( Dead Pool ) over on the coast, maybe more just go through the Topics and you will pick them up. Always good to hear of activity. Not sure about the camera flash though. Unless somebody has a cam setup to catch wildlife or your new found neighbour. Any how you are lucky and privileged to have them.

They respect you and if you respect them you will enjoy the association. I have not heard of any one in Australia being injured by them or worse.
To me stone throwing is a way of communicating, to test your response, respond like wise but not with intent to injure. Leave gifts such as kids toys or just stack pebbles or small rocks and on your return see whats changed. They will amaze you.

My family have lived with them since the 1860's and never heard of a problem. Correction lived in areas with them, missing out for generations when we changed districts. where I live now, I believe I would have to travel 100 klm to be near any.

Wow! thanks for that I will definately try the pile of stones to see what happens! We have a camp fire which is just a few bricks and a hot plate, this is usually stacked when we leave however usually knocked over when we return, we usually think this is cows, however I have noticed that a tennis ball we previously had there has gone missing!..

Not sure if I can help you out with the camera flash thingy sounds rather odd for a Yowie encounter.

But on that note I have had it happen to me before while driving in the car in the middle of nowhere, was just driving along all of a sudden a flash of light occurred out the back of my windscreen(Best way to describe it is close to a camera flash), I wasn’t driving fast so it wasn’t a speed camera, besides I was out in the middle of woop woop. It happened so fast that I actually had to ask myself if I had really seen it. It was all rather odd though.

Everything else you have said sounds like you may have a visitor there, of the Yowie kind.

Like dashboard has said the rock throwing is most probably a test to see how you respond I wouldn’t stress on it too much.

Jokes aside, did you smell anything after the farting noise?

no that was the weird thing, there was nothing.. we settled our minds blaming the trees but im a believer there is more to it.

Yep I agree with you Dashboard. Nobody that has been killed by a Yowie has ever reported it....... Plenty of missing persons in this country though???

Seriously though I dont think they are out to get us or there would be more knowen about them. They are ellusive because they are passive. ( Check my spelling please teacher).

I reckon the Australian Yowie are the Royalty of the Bigfoot Sasquatch world. Neither they nor there stink. Have to do something about this Farting though, may have been an unruly juvenile.
What have the neighbours said. They may have a plot growing and trying to scare you off.
If the grounds not to hard try raking it before you call it a night. and look for prints in the morning. Set a trip wire and put a can full of stones on the end. Have the can near you, as you don't want it to run over you getting away from the noise. Should it be triggered you may find an odour coming from your sleeping area, it should be familiar to you though.

great Idea Dashboard ...we use Fishing line and small fishing Bells hide them in the bushes and smaller trees almost invisible till someone or something trips them....

Hi Halzo,

re: the flash of light - is it possible that it was someones spotties in the distance? Having spent some time in the bush out your Kilcoy way, I've had a couple of "what the!" moments caused by this.

As for the trip wires, when I was a young baggy arsed digger, and the defence budget was too small to extend to trip flares, we used to strip down flash cubes and tape them to mousetraps - when the wire was tripped the mousetrap went off and struck the legs of the cube, firing the flashbulb. The flash wont wake you up, but the crashing, swearing and stumbling of who-ever was trying to creep up on you did.

Smokeyr67, it wasn't headlights, our property sits between two properties and has no road frontange. The flash also was just too bright to be headlights as the closest road is about 1km away!

Other than that I don't believe that the trip wire or can of pebbles would work as we have far too many other animals on the property I.e pigs deer cattle wild dogs etc

Halzo, spotties can be incredibly bright over that sort of distance, so it would be worth looking at a map, seeing if there are any crests or turns in that direction that would explain a momentary flash of light.

I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but its good to eliminate possibilities logically, instead of just dismissing them out of hand.

hahaha no no I understand trust me... we would love to be able to settle it at a spot light or at headlights... but if you saw our circumstances of where we were... it came from the ridge which was behind us.. upwards... about 100m upwards!.. and then it goes back down a hill and then theres the road... Not possible for it to be headlights... although I wish it was

Well that's it with the suggestions and idea's.
Sounds a dicey place to be camped anyway, a bit like on a Herd trail in the Serengeti during a stampede.
Still raking the ground will let you no what visitors you had. How do you sleep with all that noise.
If the light is only a flash and it comes from the sky no hills or land between it could be meteor or something. Sounds more likely it is Gods country and you have seen the light. (I like that option).
