Useful Web sites Map's and Photo's

Unread post by Jim Hocking »

Hi Fella's
Thought I would introduce a Page on Use full stuff a bit like Tone Gadget web site.
Here is a web site put together over years on Canyoning, Bush Walking, Rock Climbing etc.
It has great information on Rope Handling and Knots, Abseiling and most other outdoor activity. http://www.david-noble.net/index.html A lot seems to cover Tasmania but the more you look the more you see Western Australia and Even a country overseas called New Zeeland.
P.S. this could save you a trip over there, LOL. (claps hands)
Here is another site friends of above http://ozultimate.com/. Again all outdoor stuff.
And look at this extension of above. http://ozultimate.com/tom/. Lots of maps.
Let me know if this is of interest and I will post more. (uh uh)

Dashboard

Great site. I do like the maps section..... a lot. I know that for me, even though I have a GPS and a marked trail I like the idea of getting to an open area and doing a good compass triangle so I can confirm how lost I really am

if you have or find more sites like this, please share !

cheers

Yer some good links Dashboard..... that David Noble site is a good one.... wouldn`t mind doing a few of his walks.... they`ve covered some remote territory.... in particular the Blue Breaks walk as it covers some remote sections of the Blue Mts.

http://www.david-noble.net/bushwalking/ ... sMenu.html

he has also filmed many of his bushwalks.

Another site, that gives some good clue's on terrain and likely interest to this group. http://home.exetel.com.au/mon/wombats/index.html (bushman)
Another site for batteries, and other gadgets. http://www.gadgetsdirect.com.au
Have thought about putting a Camera on the end of a Pipe either plastic or aluminium, camouflaging it and use it to look over the growth or into a Big foot nest (susanfarns) video comes to mind. Ha ha ha. Have seen one as big as a biro or cigarette lighter. Infra red available as well. http://www.camtek.net.au/
You can get them half the size of a cigarette packet and smaller now. Could catch a shot that would not be possible if you showed yourself.
Use flagging tape in bright flouro colours. To mark a path, attaching it to a branch, not the trunk of tree's so it is more visible, and less likely to hide behind the trunk. Even on a roadside to mark an area. Don't leave it on location making it look like Christmas though. (respekt)
Just a thought.

Dash, I've seen a similar thing with chocolate and a can, but apparently, it takes literally hours to acheive the fine polish needed.

Luckily, any of us with apalling eyesight will have a much better method, and that is using either you spectacles lenses or pulling the cover off the face of your watch. Even a plastic water bottle full of water will focus the sun's rays enough to ignite tinder or paper, bark or leaves.

Ha ha ha! Well, not married as such.....

And yeah, I used to spend a lot of time outdoors, but now I've got vision probs in my left eye, walking on non-level surfaces is a real problem - only have peripheral vision in my left eye, making depth perception a bit sketchy, LOL!

Speaking of outdoor types, here's a little short amusing song you might find interesting....

Lithium Batteries delivered by Air Mail is a bit strange as it is Illegal to transport them by air. Just glad nothing happened during flight.

Good to see you got your batteries Dash, I have dealt with dodgy websites before ordering things, its a long story but ended up paying for stamp duty on a camera once there goes an extra $400 bucks, wasnt happy. (thumb Down)

Here is a Topo map reference guide for when going out and purchasing that map you have always wanted http://www.themapshop.com.au/client_images/11576.pdf

Now you’ll know which one to get.

Hey there dashboard

I hope you haven't been walking around in the hills behind Sandy Beach on the Mid Nth Coast NSW with those boots on , because there are quite a few prints that would match the likes of which that would be left behind from shoes like those , mainly visible around the muddy puddles along the fire trails .

It turns my stomach at the thought of falling victim to some Bone Headed Hoaxer ! (#@$&%) (taz)
