Yowie or Cow-ie?

Unread post by Peta »

Last night while laying in bed listening to the night time sounds (as I always do in hopes of catching the odd yowie call) I heard a call that sounded sort of like a bull, but went on to grunt occasionally. I did hear a cow call in answer twice though, so logical explination would be a bull/cow.
Strangely I have never heard cattle here, although there are some in the district and conditions last night were pretty still which would allow sound to travel.
However what I'm wondering is: Do animals call in responce to Yowie calls ? The calls went on for a period of half an hour and in that time there was only two - three reply answers by what was definatly a cow.
Any thoughts ?

Unfortunatly I have nothing to record with :( and even if I did, the noises the other night were pretty far off in the distance.
As I said, the most likely explination is a cow *moo*

My question was though.... Have there been instances in which an animal has made an answering call to a 'yowie' call ? (other than dogs barking)
Another thing I thought of today, is, would a Yowie howl in responce to a siren (fire, ambulance, etc.) like dogs do ? Most likely not, otherwise we'd all hear the yodelling from the hills. (hmm ...could be teleporting swiss mountain folk doing it instead. )

I have read of dingos starting up when a yowie starts carring on. thats about it, But in saying that im sure I know less than 1% of the encounters.

Last weekend we heard a few weird vocalisations, that upon further investigation turn out to be cows, Their Moo's were muffled through the forest and sounded nothing like it from our original position.

Hope that somehow helps you :)
