Kenilworth
Hey everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any activity in the Kenilworth reigon in Queensland?
Because I'm heading up there tomorrow for a couple of nights in my usual camping spot and I was just wondering if you guys had heard of anything around there...
Ill be sure to take a camera with me to be ready to get my happy snaps of the big fella or anything else interesting...
Where I go its really out of the way, maybe 5 or 6 camping spots spaced out and a dirt/rock road...youd be brave to take a sedan up in there...and theres a creek that runs right past the campsite...
anywayz....reply ASAP coz im heading out tomorrow...thanks!

Sure, no worries..Ill see what I can do...I'll be taking as many photos of that area as I can anyway not just the stream or the campgrounds...There are MANY MANY hardly used tracks throughout that area...Where we're camping is a very lonely spot...not like Charliemoreland which is very busy...Our spot os a very quiet little spot tucked away where hardly any people visit...many trails leading to nowhere...Ill be on careful look out for any signs of yowies (broken trees etc.)
Ill keep you posted...
So why DO you want those pictures? Are you trying to discover my secret place? :p
lol

REPORT:
Aight, well...where do I start?
we got to Kenilworth and went to our usual campsite, only to find that it was taken by about 2 daytrippers and 2 campers, (filled to capacity). So we decided to head out and find a new area, but on the way out we discovered a back road to another campsite by itself that hadnt been taken. It was maybe 200 metres from the originally planned area. We set up camp and scouted the area. Nothing much out there really, a few borken branches and saplings and I noticed a few claw/teeth marks on about shoulder height of some of the smaller trees. The creek ran through the bush about 50-100metres to the left of us. But I didnt dare go any farther than that because it was VERY dense and VERY wet. and I had nothing to defend myself with. So anyway we hit the hay at about 9pm. It started raining a few times, there was ALOT of night activity in the area, but nothing that can confirm our hairy friend. I was awoken at about 6:20am by the sounds of a tree falling over and smashing into the ground and something trailing off into the bush...I was scared as all hell, but I managed to get up and check it out. To my surprise and embarassment it was just a group of 4 cows grazing on the lantana. And one of them had pushed over a medium sized tree while scratching itself. When I heard the tree snapping I was waiting for it to come crashing down on top of us but it was a tree farther off in the distance...
There was a small dog barking way off in the distance for hours and hours...maybe at one of the other campsites...something may have disturbed it...
I also mentioned alot of night activity...I did hear a few whoops and whistles but I could not tell if they were just birds or not...You wouldnt hear such a bird in the suburbs, it was one that I hadnt heard before...
All in all, the night was a waste...I would have liked to spend more time out there but we ended up coming home this morning...Maleny is a VERY nice place...
My advice is for people heading in that area to look for the big fella...look REALLY hard, spend as much time out there as you can...there aint much out there except VERY thick bushland...
DAMMIT! I missed out on my happy snaps with the big fella...:'(
maybe next time...
Oh and Tish, no photos unfortunately...Ill tell you more about it in a PM...

I would hate to imagine...the person I went out there with had a couple as well...annoying little buggers...
but the cows seem to be doing fine, they just bulldoze paths through the bush like it was nothing to them...and knocking trees over while scratching themselves...wow, thats alot of power behind that enormous head...lol
