HHHmmmm......... I dare say this little device will appeal to many here on the forum, Nice find Mike.

Being accessible to Telstra and Optus is handy I remember you looking into trail cams around two years ago and there was a similar product on the market that could email you pictures but it only worked in the states, if I remember correctly, this being able to work in Australia is a big plus.

Having said all that this device may work with Big cats but when it comes to the Hairy man I still think they may be too smart, but hey no harm in trying.

Again Nice find will certainly cut down on travel and so forth.

Interesting little gizmo at an attractive price. Only problem with these ones that send images via the communications networks is that they need to be in a reception area which unfortunately excludes many remote places we might like to place them. " Farmcam" do one but at a higher price. I was looking at one for down here but the likely good areas are too far from the towers and the signal is either unreliable or non existant. The BM might be a good area, perhaps near "visited" fruit trees, dog food bowls or somesuch food source near a house so the unit is more secure. Creatures of habit do eventually return to regular food sources, do they not?

Understand Dions point of view. Andrew, there are many locations where reception is available in active areas.

I have some loose change in my pocket if we want to play. However I cant be bothered being caught up in yet another Telstra payment plan for now.

Could be a little fun for a very minor expense.

True..but..I was talking to an eccenric electronics wizz who had..(on paper at least) an interesting solution to this problem.
He first brought up the NASA imagery of the moon landings and said that was based on radio waves "carrying" the imagery.
Then he mentioned with todays technology..it would not be too hard..to set up a system (that needed solar to keep it charged)where an image is captured as per normal-this is encoded/uploaded onto the cb network(for free)and decoded at the other end.
His point was..the gear at both ends might cost you a bit to set up..but the data itself being carried etc..didnt cost one cent.
Then he went off on a mad tangent and started raving on about encrypting the data...
I thought ASIO "might" spot this somehow and become suspicious of anyone doing this..
Then in my mad scenario..they place their best guys onto it.
They finally crack the encryption one day..and find stills of possums eating something..

That would actually work but you would have a few technical issues to solve. You could whack it on the CB band to get range but each picture would take a while to transmit because of the small bandwidth.

You have a valid point Andrew, it may be slow..... depends on the way you set up the data. 2 meter (more expensive and requires licenses I believe) can handle it more efficiently in a packet radio configuration. Also slow scan video would work if you are willing to lose some activity. Natiional Geographic had/has some similar setups on waterholes in Africa. They were running IP cameras and ran it to their website as I recall.

Either of these with batteries and solar charges can work essentially indefinately... at higher equipment costs. Antenna placement would be pretty important also. Going to a yagi antenna and sufficient height to hit the repeater would certainly be worth considering. The repeater system may be free access, but is not as reliable as a telco..... for what that's worth . Big loads in & out by the time you figure in all the bits and pieces.

I do like the idea of multiple cameras inexpensive and small enough to put up a "good trap". Like Dean, I'm not certain how the payment process would work.... other than expensive and causing big grins at the Telstra counter. I didn't see the nm range on the IR leds.... I'm guessing 850nm. Trigger delay of 1.2 seconds is interesting also. The good news is, the cameras will hold the data no matter if there is a signal or not.

You are right about a load of gear. The other possibility is to use the spare capacity of some of those old but still operating geostationary satelites. I seem to recall that there are some Russian ones still floating around up there that are still used by radio amateurs for experimental purposes. That gives you the bandwith and the means to access from deep valleys and remote locations. As for the IR nm - one flash and the yowies are gone if they can see below 940nm. I am pretty convinced that that makes the 850 nm lights a waste of time. I hope I am wrong on that point.

I do like the side PIR on these new models..just so logical to trip off the video alot earlier than front only PIR models
