G'day everyone, my names Rob , curiosity killed the cat, so I decided to join your site.

Sorry, as I am not a crypto hunter, as I prefer to avoid what I may be uncomfortable about, especially an after dark encounter out bush with something that you don't think may exist..

Once again out of curiosity, if a person witnessed more than one type of crypto creature, as in the outside world, would they be labelled a nut job, or just plain unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time? After all, how many bushies have never even spotted a crypto creature even when they have spent their life in the bush, and along comes a city slicker who spots one straight away, a bit weird isn't it?

G day Rob and welcome , to answer your question, a nut job or unlucky, I would say neither I would call them LUCKY !!

Thanks for the response Didge, I am sort of feeling lucky in a way, but the fear always comes back, especially after dark in a camp site. So I still classify that as unlucky too.

Rob, Itake it that you have had a sighting/sightings of some type ? Im not going to pretend that I know how you feel but

there is alot of people on here that know, youve came to the right place, you might get lucky and find some answers !

Yep I am a believer, I have had sightings, 2 definites, and a few that leave question marks.

I shouldn't worry, as I have never been hurt or attacked, but just the possibility of an attack scares the hell out of me.

The sightings were years ago, but have always played on my mind.

Hopefully you are right and that I will find some answers

Heya, well no i personally dont think weird, i think because some people are more aware of whats around them than others sometimes theyll notice an encounter another may not.. i believe many people have had encounters that they arent even aware of, sad but true. Im from the city.. & i started spending time in certain greener places as i got into horses later in life.... i noticed the big cat, i spotted it & had several experiences with it... & so did others but they been there all there life & because they chose not to believe it they were closed from noticing what was around them... including a huge whopping gush on one of their prize ponies rear!

Some people are not so open minded & feel safer to "follow" ie follow what is "recognised" "known" "proven" & because "the book" says "this is what the australian bush has in it", their minds only see in the bush what it recognises from "the book"... and when they have the opportunity to notice something, they shrug it off as "ah doesnt make sense, what ever" & seconds later its forgotten because the brain has no file for it.. it only has a filing system for whats in the book.. beyond there shop is closed lol

People with open minds my friend & people who arent followers but leaders are usually the ones that are happy to allow their mind to accept something new / different / unknown

For some people "what ever" isnt good enough for them... i for one like to know what doesnt make sense & why, life would be too boring without the things that dont make sense! Thank goodness for the unusual & unknown

You arent alone on that one, although i dont think the chances are high of getting attacked, the fact that there is a chance of being attacked has changed my ways of going about things!!.... when staying/or living on rural properties now, you wont see me feeding horses in the dark alone no more! in fact i purchased a fire juggling stick to use as a torch & back-off-weapon case i ever had to walk down the back of the property at dark.. but that didnt work as i kept thinking i was going to catch the flame on myself lol & that wouldnt be good! And i still felt afraid even with it

Once you seen it & know whats out there, you dont see the bush the same way anymore & even try ur best to alert others... but than you get mocked & learn to shut ur mouth around sarcastic people

Just be careful out there, if your always in company of 2 or 3 more you should be okay & keep a fire juggling torch nearby in case No cat will come at you if you have a big fireball at the end of a stick hee hee (purchased off ebay lol)

I think the question is more how many so called bushies have seen something they couldn't really identify and simply dismissed it, or remained silent for fear of ridicule. Small Australian country towns can stifle disclosure has been my experience. Many reports, when mentioned, would turn into anecdotes at the pub on a Friday night and laughed off. There are probably thousands of sightings we will simply never hear of. And as for City slicker... right time, right place I reckon. Cheers Dave

Thankyou for the responses, it's nice to hear that other people share similar beliefs.

It is amazing how silent some people can become after witnessing cryto related sightings but hush up about them. I knew a few people in the past who decided to hush up about things they had seen. I suppose I don't blame em, it's just not the macho thing to believe in bogeyman type stories.

One friend, Steve, who spotted a large black feline sunning itself somewhere on farmland in the Pyrenees mentioned that the land holder knew about "them", as he had spotted them quiet regularly. Just thought they were the norm.

Steve also told me about a few european friends who had just arrived from Malta and went up chasing rabbits in a similar area. Well, they came across a similar large feline, and shot it in fright, but wee so freaked out about the size of it that they left the property and refused to return. They described the large feline as of a heavy stocky build, with a broad face, large cheek bones, inch long fangs, a thick tail that turned up at the tip, and most unusual they said it had purple eyes????

Steve has tried to get a map of the location, but they had no idea how to read a map, and came across the property by driving around, and as I said, refused to even return. Once again, the farmer advised them that the cats were regulars on the property, and that there were more of them.

Horse Rider, I bet you it's a bit freaky knowing when your hoses sense fear, it would definitely put me on edge too. Isn't it amazing how certain people can actually sense someone, or something looking at them, really eerie hey.

Horse Rider, when I was teenager, my family was returning to Melbourne from Echuca at night, and somewhere along the highway in the farmland /forested area between Elmore and Heathcote.

We hit a bit of fog. Dad had to slow the Holden Kingswood down really slow and a slight breeze came through allowing the fog to clear whilst going around a bend, and lo and behold there was this huge creature with it's back toward me heading down an embankment along the side of the road. It was so close I could see the goldy fronds of hair on it's back. I only saw the top back half of it, but it had no neck, was really heavy set, including it's arms which were slightly moving with it's slow pace. I guestimated it at being between 8 and 10 foot tall, absolutely dwarfed the Holden Kingswood.

The creature didn't turn around at all, as though the car was insignificant. My glimpse was only seconds long but has imprinted in my brain for life. It scared the hell out of me, as I didn't know that there was an Australian Big foot.

It scared me so much that I begged my dad to go faster and not to slow down, and didn't tell my parents till we arrived safely home. Of course, they were good parents and pretended to believe me. There was no way in the world that I was going to tell them when they I saw it, as they may have decided to stop. the car.

Mates who I have told reckon I was hallucinating, it being the norm for kids, but that thing was so close, and large, that I could have nearly touched it. Camping trips have never been the same since, I have always slept in the car, and have only just started sleeping in a tent again. That's if you call staggered sleep, sleeping. Sometimes I don't even feel comfortable with a machete beside me.

Anyhow that's my original scary experience, very lame compared to others, but !!!
