There seem's to be some truth about more black snakes less brown snake's.mmm

I hope the black snake is still alive. There has not been any report of a black snake killing any one in Australia. The first bite of the black snake is a worning (a dumy bite).

There is a naw law in Australia about killing snakes.I think it's $10,000 you pay if you kill a snake.

well it disappeared so i think they may have killed it im not sure or it left?

But its no need to kill them, really, there's special services that can come get rid of it, no need to kill... thats a brown i mean but a black, geesh they havnt killed anyone so i certainly hope it wasnt killed, it was getting comfy in the stable but my horse isnt an idiot he knows to stay away & has a whole open yard to get away from it

I have heard that too that they dumy bite first, specially with horses, theyll dummy bite first
And the browns apparently get eaten by reds soooo

Im not scared of either lol i was getting told off by everyone for getting so close to take the pics hahaha i had my hand about 30-35cm away from the python to take the pic, & i was standing around 60cm away from that black with or without it looking during me keeping eye on it.. it certainly wasnt aggressive which they say they arent anyway & it was minding its own business, i wouldnt want to hurt them, its a life, dont care what anyone says life is life what ever the form & no theyre not evil lol, people call them evil, how immature is that!

Nice pics Horserider. As a big fan of snakes, (i have 2 pet ones), consider the stable hand to call in a snake relocator to remove any snakes as opposed to the shovel (if this happened). Black snakes are cannibals and often kill other snakes including their own kind. Red bellies are my favourite elapid and they are so rare up here in central coast queesland due to the dreaded toad that seeing these guys is a treat. Love the pics and feel free to post more in the future as I very much will appreciate it.
cheers

oh. Okay... sounds like the toads had it & itself :( ah well poor snake

We have a red belly hanging around the arena, nice place for it???!!!! (cries) It must find it rather entertaining when it pops out its head to say hello every so often, the last time was, hrrrmmm approx 7 days ago - ...... you never actually get the opportunity to see the snake, just that one minute its smooth sailing than all of a sudden MELT DOWN & YOU KNOW ABOUT IT!!!! (because the mount you're riding will suddenly launch forward as if poked in the quarters with a flaming red hot fork) bahahahaha!

Naughty snakes say hello at the wrong times always!

Its so nice to hear people talking about protecting animals, regardless of their nature.

Reminds me of a day recently when I was with a friend, who was driving us back to our home town. She deliberately sweeved to run over a snake, outside the town, that was benignly making its way across the road. Unnecessary.

Held a(nother) snake the other day while at a show in melbourne. Its a very soothing experience - their stomach muscles working across your body is very relaxing.. I didnt want to hand it back.

It might be my imagination, but snakes seem to be getting much rarer not just due to habitat destruction, but in places where the habitat is still ok. A bushwalk in warm weather would nearly guarantee a snake sighting once (usually just a glimpse as it darted away) and I can remember occasionally seeing them swimming across rivers and creeks. Blue Tongues seem to be much rarer too (though strangely, I know of at least one red belly that lives in the Botanic Gardens in Sydney (thumb up)) .

Not that I mind not finding them, I'm just as happy to give them a wide berth as they seem to be to take that it. I only ever found one (extremely cranky) little fellow who decided that he would stand his ground, despite having plenty of time and room to do otherwise. Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it. They usually dart off at the first sign of people, treading on a death adder could be the biggest danger for those venturing off track, but there's probably more chance of getting hit by lightening.

Selkie i totally agree with you, its killing & it should be made wrong to kill regardless of what the creature is, taking away a life cant be good calma either?!! Thats discusting she swerved to run it over what harm was he bringing her?! I had a frikken red belly in my horses stable & i didnt kill it! Just paid a 5k vet bill after he fell ill few months ago so i could have easily got irrational & said like the "others" no thanks i dont want another vet bill, but i didnt, i said look it will just mind its own business... than it "disappeared" the next day... hrmmmmmmmmm (sneaky)

Sapere aude, hello not sure ive spoken to you before so hi :)
The snakes are becoming more of a threatened species (Hrmmm i wonder why everyones to frikken shovel happy!) & the thats why its now a 10k fine to kill a native species including snakes. The red bellys do eat browns & other snakes hence maybe why they will be the dominate species??? who knows. But in the 4yrs i been out in the semi rural areas i did almost step on a brown once but thats the only time i saw a brown, ive seen 2 pythins (above), the red belly (above) & probably another 4 red bellys over the time which were dead run over on roads

I have heard of brown snakes being very aggressive, so I don't doubt there is truth to it, though I have never really found that. All the ones I have seen have been shy, bolted away very quickly. I used to run into the occasional red belly when taking the dog for a walk and they seemed far crankier than any brown snake I have seen. Flatten their heads, hissing and striking out left right and centre, look quite impressive. Feel threatened by dogs I guess, normally they just take off.

The snake in question was a tiger snake. I notice they don't just strike, as much as completely lunge at anything within range. Wouldn't like to meet one like it in a less open area where you couldn't see it till you were next to it. In fact I wouldn't mind if I never crossed paths with one again. It's one of the reasons I now prefer bushwalking in winter (and because I actually like the cold weather, yes strange I know  )

Forty five years time ago I knew a fellow who caught Taipans in North Queensland for Eric Worral in the days when the antivenin program was in it's infancy. He taught me that the safest approach to a snake was head on as they have to arch back to strike forward and you get the most warning. The most dangerous approach was from behind as they can strike backwards faster and as accurately as they strike forward. Sideways, they are not as accurate. Just thought that snippet of trivia might help.

browns are very agressive best to stay well away I see browns all the time around my place they wont hesitate at striking ! especially the big ones I have even been chased by one , most snakes will will try to move off or give a bluff/ short strike, most browns wont ! my neighbour got bitten by a brown last year getting into his car it bit him twice before he even new what had happened, it was laying under the car and came out to bite him.... NASTY.
