hi everyone...just came back from a trip to sydney.so i had to go to the blue mtns. after reading the report where the guy came across 3 yowies at night on table land road, i just had to take a drive down there.don't know how many of you here have been down that road, but i tell you what, to drive down there at night on your own is kinda freaky.i drove down at 10 at night and i didnt even get as far as the quarentine hospital.it was the first time down that road and there was a fog hanging over the road so i couldnt see far in front of the vehicle,i only got as far as the sign for the hospital and i lost my nerve and got outta there. that area has a freaky feeling to it especially at night and in the fog.i think if i had have seen some thing like a yowie i would have sh*t myself...if you need to get outta there quick you are in trouble as there is no room to u-turn in a hurry...anyway i went back the next morning ..down tableland road..and its alot easier on the nerves when you can see where your going in daylight thats for sure...when i got to the hospital i saw a building next to it where a family lives...has anyone ever spoken to these people to ask if they see or hear things down there? the hospital is all fenced off ,it must be kinda freaky living out there wouldn't you think..what kinda of reputation does that area have ..if any? does anyone know? has anyone here been down that road and if so what are your thoughts on the area....one more thing...has anyone here drove down the full length of the road to the look out at the end? i drove for nearly an hour and gave up as i didnt know how far it goes and it seemed like i drove forever and not getting any where...next time i go there im gunna stick it out and try and get to the end....day time of course!! i dont think i have the guts to do it at night on my own...but you never know....

I would suggest walking it rather than driving at night, as the incident with Justin was very rare. Don't worry about being scared - you can push past that. You only need one other person with you and no need for a weapon of any type either.

I've had quite a few people contact me about that particular road.

In regard to the house, to my knowledge nobody has appraoched the owners. Quite often, unless they know you, people in that situation would keep it quiet.

Uuumm , you may want to take a torch with you , LOL . . . I usually have 2 , just incase the first one wants to go on the blink , just when you need it most ! Try not to go out in big groups , 2 people is a good number , but if there are more of you , don't stay as a group ! Pair off and spread out 150 m or so from each other . Get yourself , a couple of UHF hand held radios , and make sure each pair have one so that you's will be able to contact each other without yelling !

Regarding Tablelands Road.

The area is strange for sure. The dirt road goes for 20 kms, you stay on the main road and don't take any turn offs to the right or left.

We spoke to the caretaker (for the hospital site) in the cottage about 3 months ago.

His daughter had reported the ghost of a woman in one of the rooms of the hospital and he said he had chased a "prowler" at night who was walking through the bush in the pitch dark around his house.

I live at Wentworth Falls, and all you have said about this area is true. The hopspital used to be a mental asylum at one stage and is definatly haunted. I went to a fete there just before it closed many years ago and it has a hard to explain weird feel about it (somone watching etc etc) I walk the area a fair bit but I go down the road to the right which is runs for a couple of Klms and ends at a gate. This is quite spectacular country. I have been getting advise from Dean on what to take and what to look for in regards to Yowies etc as this area seems to be a hot spot. I have had one unsuccessful trip but I am planning another when it warms up a little.

I heard 2 patients at work talking about that quarantine hospital a while back, it evidently used to be a "freaky" thing to do because of the atmosphere there...I have a question,I overheard 2 wardsmen talking about a decapitated body (or torn apart) found somewhere in the mountains here that supposedly was done by a yowie...Is this true or just urban legend? It happened some time ago.

Yes it's true. If my memory serves me correctly, it was 98/99'. There were two within the space of a month. I spoke to one of the leading Policemen about it at the time. One was more than likely gang related and the man was known to Police, but the other was apparently Yowie related, as the guy was pretty much torn from limb to limb with no sign of tool use.

Believe me boys, the end of Tablelands Rd Wentworth falls is like entering another world, especially at night time. It is a genuinely scary place.

Puts me in mind of when I worked on the old narrow gauge railway lime from Marree to Alice Springs.

As for those bodies found up around the Blue Mountains, if memory serves me correct, the possible gangland one was a bag dumped on the side of a road containing human body parts. I'm sure they belonged to the one body...

Regarding the Tablelands Road enigma, I also recall being told a story of the caretaker. The story goes that he buried some animal (dog or larger) beside the cottage and had piled a load of dirt on top of it. The following morning, the caretaker discovered 'something' had unearthed the animal and removed it, dragging it out of the dirt. The finer details are no doubt known to Mr. Healy & Mr. Cropper, as well as other Blue Mountains folk.

The trip up there was shocking. I slipped and slid all over the road. The car handled like a boat because of the weight in the back and my shoulders and arms kept locking up while dealing with the aqua-planing, causing under steer.

First night, we found a rock structure and bare footprints on Tablelands Rd. Couldn't leave the car anywhere and trek off due to hoons breaking into cars in the area. No action during the night. Next day we went to Mike Williams house, had coffee and he gave us some great casts to take home. Mike dropped us off for the rest of the day and night and took my car home with him.

Huge hike with gear. Rounding a bend, had a feeling - went with it. Cut through the bush and found a Yowie track with snapped and twisted saplings and the track itself resembled a Hwy. We then started to find prints. Followed this track to a large rocky out-crop. A hole on the side with a large cave or lair inside. Dumped gear on top of out-crop and hiked through the tough stuff down to a creek - more prints. Up hills, down hills, through creeks, through thick bracken and undergrowth ? found plenty of evidence to suggest they were there.

A lot of Cat prints as well. Bagged 2 scats. Lots of hard yards. Buck smelt really bad which caused confusion as to whether there was a Yowie in the area or it was merely Buck?s questionable Hygiene issues?

A lot of blisters by the time we returned to base (out-crop). Lacking in water, phoned Mike and arranged further supplies. Buck Volunteered to hike back by himself due to my blisters (thankfully). While Buck was gone, I heard a noise which turned out to be Roo, but then, a smell arrived with a change of wind. It was shocking. Had to be Yowie?.. I turned to the direction of the odour. It was Buck?s shirt that he?d hung up in a tree prior to leaving.

40 minutes up hill and 40 mins back. I smelt Buck arriving back with another back pack full of gear - and my swag !! Hygiene issues now forgiven.

We hiked down to a water catchment, then back to base for the night.
Very lucky Buck returned with my swag, otherwise I would have froze solid during the night.

Buck witnessed something large with orangey brown hair push through the bush, but nothing confirmed. Whatever it may have been, it was clearly intimidated by Buck?s overwhelming pheromones and made a hasty retreat.

Later that night Buck tried to poison us both with a fine selection of Gourmet Deli selections including canned mussels, salami and pumpernickel. The sound of groaning and gurlging stomachs afterwards drowned out any other noises throughout the forest. Luckily for me, Buck ate the majority of the mussels while I wasn?t looking. During the night he threw up twice and made further un-godly noises that I never knew possible from a man.

No further movement for the rest of night, because Buck?s groaning stomach, ?air expulsion?, throwing up and B.O. issues had scared every animal off for a radius of 2 miles. Nervous that he just may explode, I hid under my swag.

Hiked out in the morning, sprayed Buck down with 'Impulse' (only thing we could find), and with windows down all the way, back to Mike and Bec?s for coffee and some hilarious conversations.

Great time. Discovered many new prints, tracks, markers, 'odours' etc Very encouraging - just the wrong night. Definite Yowie evidence in area.

Poor old Buck indeed. Dean politely forgot to mention thatI snored so loudly that the first night that I slept outside the car alone while Dean caught up on his much needed beauty sleep after an exhausting drive.

It was a scary feeling after two big hikes that night to be outside of the car. Dean put the fear of god into me by playing Sierra sounds and telling me all sorts of stories.

Despite my much lauded BO, due to manly hiking... and stomach grumblings and rumblings I had a fantastic time. Big thanks to Mike for his water drop off and his hilarious conversations...

Thanks to Dean for the huge effort of the long drive plus his patience with a lumbering, belching, sweating beast of burden.

I have no idea what the orangy brown thing I saw was. It darted between the rock formations as I was answering the call of nature.

I thought it was the back of a wallaby, but it moved very quick and level between the rocks with no discernable hopping.

The tracks and shrub twists and snaps were amazing to see first hand.
