geraldton
hi folks, i'm new on here and this is my first post but i've been reading this forum for a couple of years.
i'd like to share an experience i had about two and a half years ago here in geraldton, i've been putting off sharing it because i didn't think anyone would believe me.
i came here from the uk in 2009 and knew about bigfoot but had never known there was an history of it here in oz. i'd never heard anyone speak of a yowie until i looked up australian bigfoot after what i saw.
i finished work at 8.30pm had a shower an somethimg to eat so it must have been about 9.15pm i went out for a walk like i always did. if you know geraldton i live in mahomets flats and used to walk up past seperation point almost to the lighthouse and back. this night i'd got past seperation point onto the path when it started to rain quiet heavy, i turned around and started home again. on the way back i was walking along the path and seen what i first thought was a kid standing in the middle of the path side on, this figure was only about 4ft or slightly over high and was looking up at the moon about 100 ft in front of me. there was a street light behind it which meant i only got a silhouette view. at first i wondered what a kid was doing up there alone at night, but then realised it was so much more well built, it looked like it was wearing american football clothes, a helmet and shoulder pads. the rain was quite heavy so i don't think it heard me walking towards it. then i saw it's arms were way too long, past the knee, and was really well built, i thought is it an ape? i could see now it wasn't a helmet as i could see hair sticking out. this was at the path beside the sand dunes right by the beach and happened so suddenly i didn't really have time to think at the time. as i got closer about 50 ft it must have heard me, it turned towards me and took off really unbelievably fast into the dunes which are covered with bush when i got to the place where it was standing only about 10 seconds later there was no sign of it and everything was quiet.
it was probably 10pm by this time, i couldn't figure out what i'd seen, i'd never heard of the yowie at this time, but by the time i'd got home my thought was it looked like a baby bigfoot which i knew was crazy but that's the only thing i could describe it as, that's when i googled australian bigfoot and learned about the yowie.
i told my wife and some people at work and got laughed at, which i don't blame them for i'd do the same if someone told me. so i haven't said anything since, even when i found this site i didn't really want to post it because it does sound so unbelievable, but it's the truth.
geraldton does sound an unlikely place for this as it's quite build up, but if anyone else has seen or heard anything here i'd really like to hear. i don't walk at night now and live very close to where this happened, every night before i sleep i have a look out the window.
cheers

Thanks for sharing your encounter, acojeman. I just had a brief look on googlemaps. Yes the area does seem far too built up, but I wouldnt put it past them to wander into built up areas at night out of curiosity and then back out into the bush before dawn.

Re: geraldton
thanks for the reply nw83, that's the main reason i thought people wouldn't believe me. when i used to walk at night i'd never meet anyone people just don't seem to go out at night here, especially those quieter place. the only place i can think they came from would be south as the beach is hidden by dunes and there is quite a lot of bush to the south. i've been on the beach at night and it's deserted, i've walked to the bush in the south ( during the day ) and can get there in little over an hour. the beaches south of here are pretty much empty, no one live along there until dongara, i couldn't see them going north along the coast there's houses right along there. anyway thanks for the post.

Re: geraldton
I just got chills.
I posted my experience a little while ago. It was also in a built up area not too far from the beach.
Now...here's the kicker. The beach we call Town Beach has/had swampy bits at either end. It was rumoured that 'Satanists' used to hang out there and kill cats. I don't know how that started, maybe someone kept losing their cats, finding them dead in the swamp?
Once, my friends and I parked the car at the grassy area bordering the dunes and some swamp and we were just talking etc. when I became aware of figures coming towards us from the beach. In the dim light I could only see heads bobbing up and down, silhouetted against the sky. It seemed to me there were five or so, two were further ahead than the others and for some reason I felt they were child height (it was around 1995, memory is hazy). What I remember more clearly was that the movement of the heads, the rapidity of it, told me they were running towards us.
OK, so, kid height 'people' running towards us in the near pitch black night from god knows where.
We freaked out and burnt rubber, literally, like in a movie.
Seems what you are describing is a Junjadee. It could be the same for me.

Re: geraldton
hi Rodgey, good story, it's given me alot to think about.
first i've never heard of the junjadee, i've googled it but can't find much info, seems it's a type of miniture yowie, would that be right?
another thing that really started me thinking was the cats disappearing, geraldton was a big cat overpopulation problem, especially between beachlands and mahomets, the same area i had my encounter. it reminded me of something also i'd forgotten.
during the summer months i put the paddleling pool for my kids, during the night you can hear the cats climbing over the fence for a drink, this reminded me of a water hole about half a mile further on from where i had my encounter, its the only fresh water around this area and the feral cats for sure are drinking there.
during the day people go past there, joggers, cyclists and dog walkers, but during all the years i walked there at night i never saw a person after dark. here's the bit i can't rationally explain, some nights when i got to this point, i used to get this feeling i can't explain, just past the water hole the dunes get really big and the path between them gets really dark, about once or twice a week when i got to this point i couldn't go on, something in my head told me something very very bad was ahead, a very strong feeling i couldn't ignore, it was really strong and the feeling i can only describe as evil. i know this sounds stupid but i couldn't have gone on on those nights. i always put it down to being afraid to walk throught the dark part, but there were other dark areas which didn't freak me out like that, i've never been afraid before or since like that, i'd get cold sweats and chills there but only on certain nights.
even if there was something there watching the water i couldn't have know, i just felt a bad bad evil presence and turned around on those nights and walked quickly away, once i got a bit down the path i'd be ok again and just blame my imagination, but i'd never had that feeling anywhere else.
i'd forgotten about this until you mentioned the cats which reminded me again. there's a good chance it all is my imagination, but the feeling was so so strong my brain would just go get outta here now somethings wrong.
i thought it would be worth mentioning here, just something i can't explain, there might be nothing to it, but it's not like me to be like that.
i might go there one of these days and have a look around the dunes, i don't really know what to look for, maybe prints, any pointers on what to look for?
cheers

Re: geraldton
Hiya,
There are many reports on this site about Junjadee. This is just one name for them. Basically they are a separate species of yowie. They are smaller than human adults, powerfully built, long hair, obvious teeth and a hell of a scream when upset. Their footprints look like small human footprints; child sized. They are very fast, can be aggressive but not lethally so. Many stories you will read about them entail a person or horse getting spooked for 'no reason'. Then the little guys are spotted half hiding somewhere, observing. Or someone spooks one that was watching or playing with some kids and it bolts. Freaky stuff. One story that sticks in my mind was from the Nullabor...
So anyway, you're looking for footprints where they shouldn't be, dead cats and small hairy screaming things.
Yikes. You can get night vision goggles cheap from Target these days, in the toy section. This may give you a stealthier edge as they will see a torch coming a mile away. And take someone with you if you can...
Good luck!

Re: geraldton
hi again Rodgey,
i went up there on wednesday afternoon, i don't fancy going there at night, i didn't see anything out of the ordinary, dog and cat prints was about all.
i stopped at the place also i had my encounter, it's the first time i've been up that way for a year or more. to see it in the daylight i realised how many hollows and bushes there are to hide, i'm sure it was hiding within a few metres of me that night because i would have heard it running otherwise, makes me shiver now.
do you have any info or links to whatever it is you've heard from here, i'd be very very interested, especially this area, i'd like to meet up with anyone that's had a experience like i had.
thanks Rodgey

Re: geraldton
hi wellymon,
thanks for that, that was freaky, the speed that went at was similar to what i saw, it was so fast, almost like a blur when it moved.
what are these things and are they found anywhere else or just australia?
they seen almost supernatural.
thanks again, i'm fascinated with these things now.

I'm pretty sure that's a video of a bird. Look how small it is.
I just "googled yowie, junjadee WA Perth" to get my results. I can post some up later when I get time

In regards to them being supernatural... Animals tend to seem this way to us when they take advantage of their environment to elude us (or magicians when they trick us). We simply aren't attuned enough to the forest and such to see what is happening clearly.
Think of a cat stalking a gecko. Their senses are far more attuned to hunting than ours but the look on their cat face when the gecko does something tricky and disappears is priceless.
To us, mice and huntsman spiders can also 'VANISH' as people like to put it. I took my bathroom apart the other day looking for spider. It wasn't there...until it was the next day (still not supernatural).
"It was there and then it 'VANISHED' into thin air" Yeah...or simply stood behind a tree. Millions of year of evolution would make them pretty cluey.
In the links above you will find info about the "ebugogo" a mythical creature from flores and homo floriensis, a hominid from the same place...not a coincidence. During the last glacial maximum (10,000 years ago) land bridges would have been available to cross from here to there. While Africa is often held to be the birthplace of humanity many now theorise that we and our relatives evolved all over the place including Australia. If this is true we may be dealing with an truly indigenous species far more situationally savvy then we can imagine. No wonder they are hard to see.

Re: geraldton
rodgey, thanks for all the links, very interesting, some of those places are quite close mingenew is less than an hour away. thanks for all the hard work i appreciate it.
it could be a bird, but dosen't look like it to me, but it could be one of alot of animals, it's very bad video.
i agree 100% about what you say about supernatural, anything that lives in a different enviroment to us is of course going to do things we can't understand and will look amazing to us, especially if we haven't seen it before, but i don't believe it was supernatural whatever it was, just that it looked that way, which has propably got alot to do with the bad footage.
interesting theory about man evolving in more than one area, it's not impossible, but what are the odds? i hope it's true. all those islands north of us especially indonesia would be a prime place for it to happen. i've been interested for a long time in the indegineous peoples of indonesia, philippines, etc, negritos as they've been called, i've met many of them in the philippines aetas, mangyans, and they do seen to have come from another line. so why couldn't there be others we don't know about yet. the tribal people in sumatra tell of a creature called orang pendek as a fact, and other tribes also, different places, different names
only one thing i can say for certain, there are creatures out there that we don't know about yet. in the world today were people think they know, and have discovered everything it's good to know there are still mysterys.
sorry if i'm rambling, i'm knackered. thanks for all the info, i'll look into it closer in the next few days.
cheers

Re: geraldton
Something i thought was a bit weird happened tonight. i haven't walked up the way where i seen whatever i seen at night, thought i have been up that way in the daytime. Anyway for about the last 3 or 4 weeks i've started going about two thirds the way back to that place, it seems a safe distance. pretty much every night i've stopped at the same place to have a pee before i turn back. Tonight when i went to pee there was a big blood stain right where i piss, it was quite big at least a couple of litres of blood on the white sand, it was a full moon tonight and very bright so it's definately blood, i thought it was weird and worth mentioning here. Again it might be nothing, but it's a big area and it right in the spot where i've been stopping.
has anyone heard of anything like this before? or is my imagination getting the better of me.
cheers

Ha thats scary! Maybe a warning to stop peeing in the area or harm may befall you. Could possibly be a rarely seen member of the homo florensis family, commonly known as "the bobbit"..

Re: geraldton
not long back from my nightly walk, i went back to the same place for my pee, i was more wary tonight but didn't see or hear anything unusual.
i had a quick look this afternoon in the daytime, but everything looked the same as last night, the blood was still there, i couldn't see any foorprints, it's a very narrow track, just a rabbit run.
thinking about it in bed last night i remembered something i didn't think much of at the time. last saturday or sunday night when i went there something had pissed right beside where i usually go, it was stinking and it was really dark, almost honey coloured and almost perfectly round shaped on the ground, about the size of a dinner plate, it was rank which made me think it was maybe feral cats or maybe rabbits so i hadn't thought of it again until last night after the blood. it was very fresh, i reckon it was still warm. stinking.
i want to be rational about all this, but these and other things i've seen makes me wonder if there is a resident there, i always thought what i saw 4 years ago was just someone passing through

Re: geraldton
Maybe, and probably, means nothing, but I know from experience car-camping at popular locations where kangaroos etc. are partly habituated, that they are strongly attracted (mostly at night) to human urine on the ground (when ya gotta' go, and the ablutions block is not handy) - probably craving the salt content.acojeman wrote:not long back from my nightly walk, i went back to the same place for my pee, i was more wary tonight but didn't see or hear anything unusual.

i want to be rational about all this, but these and other things i've seen makes me wonder if there is a resident there, i always thought what i saw 4 years ago was just someone passing through

You're probably right Dave, the most obvious answer is probably the right one, what i seen before has gotta be long gone.

Good find.
It’s amazing what can be found in the Forum and Main Website if you use the Seach Bar. It’s a significant tool that proves very useful.
Thanks for bringing this back to our attention.

Re: geraldton
thanks Dean,
there are sightings in this area, you just dont hear about all of them.
i'm really loikng for someone else in this area to look over some maps with and try to figure out likely areas to look for some sort of signs.
i've tried talking to some old prospecters who've spend time in the bush alone to see if they've ever had any strange encounters, but the subject is changed very quickly.
anyone out there from the geraldton area?

OK this is weird but %100 true.
My ex-wife is from Geraldton and I lived with her in the units at Mohumats Beach in 2008.
I never saw any yowie related anything while I was there but years ago she told me(she is not into yowies) that when she was a bout 10(~1986) she saw she described as a grey/white man ape in a rocky, coastal gorge when she and her family were holidaying in Kalbarri, north of Gerladton.

Re: geraldton
thanks for the reply Bryn,
thats where i lived before in mahamoets also when i used to walk up past seperation point, we moved there in 2009 otherwise would probably know you, we lived in sardam place just behind hadda way. we moved last may to shenton street.
what you said about your ex wife is typical, many more people have seen than are talking about it, who knows what it might have been.
theres also been a sighting to the south in eneabba. from kalbarri to eneabba is a big area, seems they're all over the place.
has anyone tried a drone with a heat sensor? that might be a good way to quickly check a larger area.
if anyone else has any sightings in this general area would really like to hear about them.
thanks Bryn
